It just seems like double standards when you take in to consideration the fact that the golf course they’re going to play on in Abu Dhabi was more than likely constructed using the same labourers that are working on the Qatar stadiums and that’s before the wider scale human rights violations in the United Arab Emirates is even taken in to account.

Yeah this is exactly the point I was trying to make. They have been very critical of large competitions being hosted by countries like Russia, Brazil and Qatar who do not live up to the OTB moral high standards. And now they choose to have their own junket in Abu Dhabi?

Exactly, they could have helped out the local economy by doing this over two nights in somewhere in rural Ireland like Doonbeg. They would hardly have a problem with Doonbeg would they?

Is there such a thing as a schedule for this OTB 24 hour radio station yoke?

I turned it on there and the first name I heard was Dustin Johnson, would be good to know when it isn't golf chat.

I might be mad, but I could swear they just played some Radiohead in the afternoon yesterday.

Heard Joe comment last night to Enda Coll about his upcoming show on the 24Hr station and implied it would be some form of a call in show.

Maybe was just idle talk as they were making a play on his name and suggesting the show would be titled "Call Coll" or something.

Heard a bit of that, but wasn't sure what they were on about.

Poor aul Joe sounded so bored last night. He didn't even acknowledge Tim Vickery's C word joke. Sounded about as engaged as Ray D'Arcy does on TV.

(The hurling chat was very enjoyable, though).

Cork camogie star Ashling Thompson ordered to pay €6,000 after pleading guilty to assaulting two women

You know I was wondering why this story was not covered on OTB, in the same way that they have gone out of their way to vilify other sports people. It would have certainly given Gilroy, head sneer himself, an opportunity to correct the record.

Ger Gilroy: Are real role models finally emerging?

    Role model indeed, Ger.

What do you mean correct the record?

His piece was from 4 years ago, a full 2.5 years before the event happened. Should he have apologise for not having looked in to his crystal ball to see what was going to happen?

A quick google search shows at least 5 different outlets wrote positive stories about Ashling, some even after the assault had been committed (though I can understand if they did not know this). Do you expect each of them to correct the record in the same way?

What's the deal with a 'Gala awards dinner'. Awards being handed out to who? Is it black-tie? Seems weird thing to be fitting in to a 4 night golfing trip.

Former Irish American boxer Gerry Cooney hour long interview was very good.
Available on the GO LOUD app I'd say.

Does he say whether he is still working at Mr Burns Casino?

    :D

He was asked had he an Irish upbringing and he opened with 'yeah, my father drank a lot'....

    Seemed a very pleasant lad.

Did they report on this or not? If they did, they’ve no case to answer for. If they didn’t, they merely lived up to their reputation as virtue signalling ball bags. I’ll reserve judgement in this case until I know for sure.

I switch off every time I hear that stupid ad. I have an idea for an advert, keep shouting "go loud" over and over, that will really get people's attention.

Gilroy was on his high horse about Paddy Jackson again yesterday. Really these lads don't have a leg to stand on while they still promote gambling. It's selective moralising.

So they can’t have an opinion because you said so?

Gambling and Jackson’s are two different issues. While I agree with you on their promotions, it doesn’t mean they can’t talk about issues such as the Jackson one.

What did Ger say about Jackson anyway?

Can't take Stephen Doyle seriously with that absolutely appalling haircut, I'd sooner pour round-up on my head than that.

They can have whatever opinion they like but you can't run with the hares and hunt with the hounds if you want people to take you seriously and not be considered massive hypocrites. They indulge in an a la carte style of moralising about one issue while ignoring others that pay them off.

    My humble opinion.

Exactly. They're all in on the lads banter but they can turn on a sixpence when it comes to moralizing.

The one that has always confused me hugely is their stance on PED users. These people broke the rules of sport -a pursuit of leisure in its rawest form- and they are described by OTB like they are rapists or paedophiles. Take the Munster lad from South Africa. It wasn’t a story when he signed for Munster because in truth no one gives a flying fcuk if he took a bit of nandrolone or whatever it was. It was tumbleweed until OTB rounded up the SJWs on the guy and the IRFU caved like they tend to do. Jackson and Olding hadn’t a snowball’s chance in hell with the likes of the OTB sport police sniffing around.

Munster lad should always have been a big story.

You seem to think OTB can't express an opinion whatsoever or they are SJW.

Many many people, companies, teams, didn't want to be associated with the Ulster rugby players, it wasn't just OTB who thought what went on was unsavoury.

I agree with the view that they should not associate so strongly with betting companies (same goes for teams sponsored by them IMO) but I think that doing so does not mean they cannot discuss other very active and relevant stories.

This throwing out 'SJW' statements is tiresome at this point. People in glass houses and all that.

Lol, Jackson did a good enough job of tarnishing his own image before OTB said a word.

But they bring the SJW part to every discussion. But they are certainly not the only business who tries to demonstrate their high morals to the public, while living by different ideals privately. Just think of Gillette, Twitter or Facebook. It's actually scary though because it's quickly getting to the position that if you have conservative views of any kind, then you may not even bother applying to work in certain companies.

    Do they? Really?
    Compared to what/who?
I think at this point some are just sitting waiting to accuse them of being all SJW without listening to the topic being discussed.

It 'seems' that many conservative minded individuals would rather be a d*ck just so they can tell a supposed 'SJW' "don't tell me what to do!"

(not going back and forth on that Gillette ad here, there was a dedicated thread I contributed on)

(Also, interesting you named FB given their actions in supporting nefarious practices which not even DT would describe as liberal)

    Back to show content.

I'm not big on horse racing. At all. But, they have a lot of decent guests and interviews as part of Friday night racing slot.

Yesterday's with Ger Lyons was nearly an hour long and was excellent. Watch on YouTube for bleep free content.

To go off topic again for a minute, I was talking to a colleague and he made the point to me that the people defending the OTB crew for heading off on tour to Abu Dhabi would be the same people condemning George Hook or Ivan Yates if they were to do the same.

Gotta love those make-believe what if arguments. Hard to disagree with them, given they're make belief.

I’d make the point that if they stayed here then the same people would find something else to bitch about.
