    overall total now 69mm.
If the first three weeks of September wasn't so dry and August around average, I think flooding would have been a lot more serious.
belting down still, getting sick of this at this stage - you'd think it was July!!

From Broadsheet. The scene in Dublin today. Irish - the eternal optimists

    re: SEPT 23 1989

    To answer your question:
    37mm on Monday - 0000-2400hrs
    14.8mm on Tuesday - 0000-2400hrs

Giving a 48hr total up to midnight of 51.8mm or 2.04 inches.

You can probably add another 4-6mm at least from midnight to 11am today.

Biblical rain on and off all morning in Bray, it's mad to look at Met Eireann's rainfall radar and see continuous squally stuff coming from the east over BRAY. If only it were sn*w...... ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

Maybe time to remove the level 2 warning? There is no longer any Met Eireann warning in effect and no mention of a risk of flooding in their forecast.

There was a LOT more than 4-6mm in the Dublin area last night.
The 48 hour total at Dublin Airport up to midnight was 54mm (17mm on mon and 37mm on tue)
My final total for this event (and I'm about 3 miles from Airport) is 73mm so at least 20mm fell over night in the vicinity of the Airport.
The torrential rain actually woke me up several times during the night.

He asked about Casement and not Dublin Airport, Elmer.

    CASEMENT
    37mm on Monday - 0000-2400hrs
    14.8mm on Tuesday - 0000-2400hrs

These are the official Met figures

Your figure of 37mm for Dublin Airport on Tuesday is far different to the official Met figure of 13mm.

You are most likely correct about overnight rainfall though, IF the same showers you mentioned hit inland at Casement.

Yup that squally rain has ended here in North Dublin with the sun out now , still a nice breeze out though so was good for a walk in the park , photos up shortly.

Looking at the radar , really does remind me of the start of the winter 10-11! :)

:o got my days mixed up. 37mm fell on Monday.
One way or another up to 3 inches (70mm+) fell in the Dublin area mon-wed.

The centre of the low as seen by EUMETSAT at 7am, positioned over Cardigan Bay as MT mentioned in his forecast. Lines of showers can be seen along our east coast

Am I missing something? Dublin Airport readings?
    Met.ie - 24th - 38mm, 25th - 13mm
    ogimet - 24th - 17mm, 25th - 29mm

    Slightly different.

11mm in 12 hours isn't really close to exceptional return periods at all.

I noticed that neither Casement or Dublin AP were recording significant amounts from the showers that hit this morning (I was keeping an eye on the hourly reports).

Total of 16.2mm here today, brining my event/'storm' total of 103.0mm.

@Dub56 - if you are out there? :) - would love to know how you faired in Firhouse?

RE: OGIMET, Elmer. Make sure you have selected the 24 hr period 0000 to 2359 and not any other 24 hr variation that would provide a different mm total i.e. 0600 Tuesday to 0559 Wednesday. The circled part of the below image has 00 selected which will show you the data for all Irish stations for the preceding 24 hr period up to 0000hrs.

The data given on Ogimet is provided by the Met offices in the relevant countries so both will concur for a full 24 hr day i.e. 0000 to 2359hrs
