Only 3 returning players makes for one of the weakest looking sides in a few years. We'll have to see how it plays out. Great to see a stronger representation from Munster. Can only bode well for the future if all the provinces are producing.
weak on paper hopefully they can come up under the radar and do well
Great to see a stronger munster representation after several years where we only had 3rd or 4th most representatives

Why not? He's been playing for the Munster A side and is in the academy whereas Timmins is a year younger (open to correction) and isn't even in an academy.

injuries are giving other kids a chance, hopefully some of them make a name for themselves.

the half back pairing of mcgrath and olding are pretty highly rated

Leinster's full academy players eligible for this years team:
    Byrne twins(injured)
    Thornbury
    Leavy(injured)
    Van Der Flier
    McGrath
    Byrne(injured)

Just from talking to some people whove seen him play regularly enough and they do not rate him to be at that level.
ive only seen him once and am only going on the opinion of others.

There are some very very classy players kicking around this team. Not so many stars but I can't wait to see Olding and McGrath on the field together. Potential for a class back row as well when Leavy gets fit, Murphy is supposed to be great.

Looking forward to seeing Rory Scholes, he's been around for ages now so I'm interested to see what he can actually do.

very interesting. There is 5 or 6 who were in the irish youths squad that year who are in the 20s this year
Tom Daly, Peter Dooley, George McGuigan, Conor Joyce and David Panter are all in the squad with Adam Byrne injured. there could be other youths from that year involved

I didn't know Joyce was an Exile. That's McGuigan, Caulfield, O'Meara, Panther and Joyce. 5 Exiles.

I think it's actually David Panter, unfortunately.

Interesting to see in G Cummiskeys article on the 20s that Henshaw has more minutes this season in the pro12 than any other player in irish rugby.
    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/sport/2013/0129/1224329399917.html

Team to be named tomorrow. Itll be a real shame for 20s if article is true and Olding is unavailable for friday night
BTW Parc Eirais where the game is to be played friday night is savage venue. brother was over there in the summer
first time being used for a welsh 20s but hosted some games between tier 2 nations in november

How come Haugh isn't in the squad, does he have an injury, or just not good enough?? I had heard he was very highly-rated?

Luke Mcgrath is miles ahead of him and all 9s around this level i think. Interesting enough is i don't think he was even given a trial! Ruddock mustn't rate him as highly as others

What that would tend to tell you is that the Rock boys get worse with age or are hyped up way too much at a younger age

There isn't really any reason to pull him this weekend, next weekend maybe but maybe it depends on whether Uncle Declan releases PJ for the Ospreys game or not.

Would I be right in saying that its particularly rare to find youths players coming through the system in Ulster, anybody know what Joyce's story is? remember him playing against Leinster last christmas.

No surprise McGrath is Captain. Olding at fullback? What is with our obsession of putting OH's at FB?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,257 ✭✭✭Hagz

Josh Van der Flier just coming back from injury so expect him to get back onto the starting side when he's fit.

Not sure but Olding seems to be able to play across the backline and iirc played 1 or 2 games in last years JWC in the centre

I don't think Olding has settled on a position yet, played 13 at the JWC last year! Confused as to why they've switched Joyce and Timmins around from their normal positions. If McGrath performs well this tournament I can see Leinster having to tie him down with a development deal.

Even if Leavy comes back from injury?

Yeah, I'd sooner move an OH to centre than FB tho. Seems a very Irish mentality.

Sure shtick him at the back and he'll boot the leather off the ball.
