Starting this thread very early but may as well start it now with info on some of the interpro squads that are the main aid to the irish coaches in selecting their squads and was thinking that i may as well add in info about the u21 leagues which give some of the players gametime throughout the season

Greg is still underage for schools u18 squad. is not playing 20s
Munster 20s have called up a few players to their squad who were not named in the orig squad which is named on a link in my previous post including backrow Cronan Gleeson and from the 19s 2nd row John Madigan

This is some of what was posted on Munsterfans about the Munster v Connacht u20s warm up that was played last thursday.
Three 20 minute periods were played. Munster scored three tries and one conversion against Connacht two tries.
Connacht got stronger as the game went on but having said that Munster were camped in the Connacht 22 for the first of the three periods, and were penalised four times with the ball turned over, so there were some good chances to deliver scores. They looked pretty good and fit overall. Munster may have committed a few too many men to the breakdown and I know they were trying out combinations and positioning rather than just trying to work scores.
I think the entire squad had a run out for at least half the full time played each.
Ive posted these already but my as well post them again. As usual these games will be the main decider in who get the first call up to irish 20s training squads that usually first meet up sometime in october.
Munsters last 3 warm ups are home to Italy next tuesday in cork, away to Sale Sharks on Monday week and a game against UL Bohs/Bruff on Friday fortnight.
Munster v Connacht, Friday, 7th Sept. Musgrave Park, ko 7.30pm
Leinster v Munster, Friday, 14th Sept. Donnybrook, ko 7.30pm
Munster v Ulster, Friday, 21st Sept. Musgrave Park, ko 7.30pm

I would assume its 6 7 8 but all 3 have played a lot of their rugby with their club/school at 8
cronan has mainly played at 6 at provincial/national level

He has been involved in warm up games and played the warm up game against the american college side so could be injured

I wouldn't be expecting much from this Ulster U20 squad on the basis of the Ulster Schools U18/19s performances from last season but I believe Conor Joyce, Ben Alexander and Rory Scholes to be three names to look out for from that squad.

OT but I must say I've never seen one man sustain a thread so.

23 posts, 16 from Ormond Lad,

I've seen Thomond2006 single handly sustain the Munster thread for days at a time but never quite to this extent!

Keep it up Ormond Lad, it's always nice to be able to check out the progress of the next generation of provinicial and international players. I was thinking the other day as I was scanning through the U20 teamlists and Schools squadlists that I was probably seeing one or two names that will become big stars in the future but I just don't know it yet, and for some reason I think that's kind of cool.

    Could be

Couple of lads missing from that team, Jamie Dever at 3 and Robbie Henshaw at 13. Remains to be seen if Henshaw will be involved in the interpros given his involvement with the first team at the moment

will be interesting to see how no16 goes. He was on shannon saints all ireland u19 winning side last season. interesting to see how he takes his chance up west
more interested in how some of those subs go than some of the starters to be totally honest like 16, 18, 19, 21 and 25 are names that stand out to me from those not starting and of the starters 4, 9 , 10 and 15 stand out

The captain O Brien would still only be an Under 19. Think he was an Irish Youth a year underage also. Saw him play the all Ireland Semi Final last year and he was immense

He was on the Galwegians under 17s team who won the All Ireland who won two years ago, that'd still leave him under 19. He was on the Schools under 18 as well last year

Thats a very strong Leinster line up with some of the stars of the schools game over the past two years included. There 5 players in the pack alone who have academy contracts.

Robbie Henshaw is a big loss for Connacht

So it is the Mark Roche from Blackrock College. Looks like Adam Boland is trying his hand out west as well. It's good that the guys who don't quite make it look for the opportunity do so in the other provinces. Peter Reilly and Marcus Walsh are also in Connacht.

Then you have Alan O'Connor and Des Merrey up in Ulster.

did Des Merry join Ulster academy?

Wow-that's a shock. Very disappointing result for Leinster

Didn't really look like a strong Leinster team tbh.

Leinster pack looked good but didn't see much in the backline, then again I'm no expert

Surprised Leinster lost theyve totally dominated this age group for the past few years. Good win for Munster.

Hi Ormond, if you could find more detailed match reports from the Connacht u-19s matches I would be very grateful. Thanks.

Pretty big achievement from Co Carlow to have developed players on the Leinster U 20s, Connacht U 19s and U 20s.
