They were only applications, I can't imagine it would be anywhere above a few hundred euro.

It takes a fair bit of money to run a high court session.

I might see if there are any transcripts available.

lol! This relates to Christianity, how exactly? If Jesus' face appeared in the powder or if it was 'delivered' by a Christian, then it could be worthy of being added to this 'thread'.

How many gay people have been killed in Ireland for being gay?

here was one in 1641 , it could happen to a Bishop as they say :pac:

    THE

    LIFE AND DEATH

    OF
    JOHN ATHERTON

    LORD BISHOP

    Of
    WATERFORD AND LYSMORE
    within the Kingdome of Ireland,
    borne near Bridgwater in Somersetshire.

Who for Incest, Buggery, and many other enormous crimes, after having lived a vicious life, dyed a shamefull death, and was on the fifth of December last past, hanged on the Gallows Greene at Dublin, and his man Iohn Childe being his Proctor, with whom he had committed the buggery, was hangd in March following at Bandon Bridges, condemned thereunto at the Assises holden at Corke.

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

You do know whom/what GLEN represents and also what the title of this thread is?

Did you even understand what I asked?! Obviously not...but thanks for contributing.

Yes. However, this 'incident' has little relevance to homosexuality within the Christian context: should we also post about homosexuals who stub their toes, lose their keys or upcoming social events as matters of relevance? I thought there was a specific Category for LGBT issues and until a definite link between this act and Christianity is established, I question its relevance to this thread. Is that okay with you? Can you understand the point I'm making?

I understood completely did you understand mine? How many gay people have killed themselves over the years as a result of dogmatic bullying by the Catholic Church and the society they created that was so hostile to its gay members.

    Would even one be acceptable?

    Aloyisious quote.

Look again at the thread title. There is nothing there indicating that it is solely about how Christians treat homosexuals, more so on how homosexuals are mistreated here. If you want to restrict your posts to what you view as the thread topic; eg, Christianity and homosexuals, that's your prerogative. However I don't believe that the issue of how homosexuals are treated here in Ireland is restricted to how Christianity treats homosexuals here. I know that homosexuals of both genders here are not solely from within the Christian faith.

Re your mention of homosexuality and the Christian context (as you call it) I think GLEN was treated in an unchristian manner by the maker of the suspect parcel. Perhaps you might agree with that?

    Are rhetorical questions answers?

    Are rhetorical questions answers?

You asked a question that you knew or ought to have known it would be impossible to answer directly. We don't keep detailed statistics on suicides. We do know that suicide and suicidal ideation is something that disproportionately affects lgbt youth.

I can say from my own personal experience however that I have lost two friends because of it.

As an aside for someone defending Christianity the compassion is just dripping off you:cool:

Seeing as this thread is in the forum/sub-forum Religion + Spirituality> Christianity maybe you could tolerate my questioning of its relevance?

Excuse you! You made comments that you cannot support with evidence. And now, since you came as close as you can to admitting that you cannot substantiate your claims, you try to make the issue about me and my compassion (or lack thereof)?

*there's no avatar to show that I'm crying...:(

I made no comment for which I lack evidence. Not one.

And don't flatter yourself, your lack of compassion is not the issue, its just disturbing.

so two friends of yours committed suicide because of dogmatic bullying by the RCC?

Wow, I hope that you and other friends/ family/ acquaintances have pulled the facts together and identify the perpetrators of this. Bring this to the attention of the gardai and the upper echelons of the catholic church.

All else fails then name and shame.

    Mod NOTE:

This is the megathread for discussion of all blend of materials LGBT and Christianity. Sometimes the two might not necessarily intertwine. Sometimes they might. In either case, mostly they are all relevant to this particular thread. There are exceptions of course. However in the general spirit of the forum and this thread the perceived attack on GLEN is somewhat relevant to the subject matter.

Also, boards has a strict policy on defamation. DO NOT attempt to name and shame any individuals or organisation in a manner that might attack their right to a presumption of good character. I'm not a lawyer so there's probably some legal folk laughing at the layman explanation. Regardless, don't post anything that you wouldn't want to read about yourself.

 Cause all the sarcasm in the world can cover up the hideous evils the RCC has perpetrated, the oppression and torture of gay people being just one. Own your hate or denounce it.

Grand - Let's kick it off so.

Marriage is not solely a religious institution, and as such - nobody has the right to dictate whether two consenting adults of the same sex can marry or not. Religious institutions have no right to interfere with legislation on same-sex marriage.

Same-sex marriage is ultimately no different than 'traditional marriage' in any practical sense.

Homosexuality is perfectly natural, and poses no dangers to society.

Two guys stuffing one and other is not natural.

Depends on how you define natural, as in natural law or a thing that happens in nature. If you use the definition of natural law then yes it's not in accord but if your saying it const happen in nature then your wrong, it's far more common that you would think.
Even using natural law theirs a case to be made that it's acceptable. It might be repulsive to you but as you are not the measure of what's natural for anyone other than yourself that's moot.
