So you're projecting a mystery reason for my No vote, for the heck of it. OK.

No no not a mystery at all, you don't need to be Nostradamus to figure it out princess :P

It looks to be a Yes vote by a heavy margin. It's not often that I feel proud to be Irish, but this is definitely one of those days. I think that in a few years people will look back and wonder at what all the fuss was about.

As someone who has always been fiercely proud to be Irish, I hope you are right and the fears expressed of a Yes vote do not come true.

Well done to all on the Yes side, looks like there's going to be some hoolie in the Castle tonight...:)

A lot of the bad stuff the no side mentioned was from America where you either deeply at one side or the other I think Ireland now is central but would not take a lot to go 1 way but hopefully it would go like that. Well done the yes

When will they be announcing that the RCC will no longer be covering the civil parts of marriage?

I think they only said they would "consider" it but Im sure they wouldnt have said it unless they were seriously considering it, right?

There must have been a lot of prayers for a No vote. What happened?

If god is all powerful and the Yes side won, does god want gay marriage? Does anyone here have any ideas, or is it down to 'mysterious ways'?

The answer is easier than that. Its called freewill and God saying "you want it....you can have it" just read romans 1

When you meet Gay Catholics, do you give them a special dose of your anti-Catholic hate speech? Just wondering.

Speaking of hate speech, have you worked out the correlation between racism and homophobia yet?

You weren't able to pin that one on me in the height of the campaign, you'll hardly manage it now. :D

I wonder if they'll be showing the eurovision on big screens in the Castle this evening? Might be worth bringing herself in.

Again, not trying to pin anything on you.

    Good.

I've moved on from Marriage now.

Back to the day-to-day politics. Building up to the GE along with Public sector pay restoration.

Maybe an attack on the 8th in a couple of years, but hopefully not.

We'll see. You just never know whats coming around the corner next.

And maybe those who voted 'no' because they are 'practising' catholics would now start going back to mass every Sunday

You mean this visual message, and the other two scrawled by the same person, on bus shelters in Bray?

Well tbh, I'm of a mind to!
The RCC stated their position as supporting a no vote but their was a clear indication that they were somewhat torn about it. ++Martin was especially considered in his statements. We also had some bishops supporting a yes vote.
    Times have changed.

Movement from the Catholic Church, inspired by Pope Francis to make the Church more inclusive has to be welcomed.

Respectfully, I disagree. The Yes side won fair and square - there can be no argument over that. The Irish people decided overwhelmingly and the result speaks for itself. That chapter is closed and it's time to move on.

However, members of the clergy who advocated the Yes vote should also move on. In my eyes they have absolutely no place in the church.

So you would have the Church as a closed, monochromed club?

    No chance.

Pope Francis has shown us the way as out Sherpherd to pen our arms to people on the margins or feel marginalised due to their life circumstances.

I do struggle with clergy who have not supported their church's stance on the referendum, although I find the Church of Ireland position even more complicated where there was no consistent position - it strikes me as a church destroying itself from within:

    http://www.christiantoday.com/article/church.of.ireland.might.as.well.close.if.it.cant.stop.decline.says.archbishop/53707.htm

Where next for the Christian church in Ireland post-referendum? Will a gay married couple presenting a child for baptism be turned away?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,247 ✭✭✭Greaney

Well, it's happened in the States (does everything happen there first?)

    http://www.christiantoday.com/article/church.refused.baptism.for.son.of.gay.christian.couple/53490.htm

It can get complicated. This is, I guess, an argument against Paedobaptism?

Did Bishop Martin mention in some program today that there is some summit in August and the churches position on homosexuality will be on it. Could be wrong but I think he was asked something along the line if the Catholic summit was before this and not August you could have had another position
