I wonder if we could make a 'mini' team? I've no problem pairing up with somebody if someone wants to make a two car or a two driver team. Something I'd be very interested in.

That's a bumpy track. What speeds were you hitting there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,946 ✭✭✭SouperComputer

    85-86ish. Around 136KPh.

Great tread guys, I've always wanted to get involved in some proper motor sports and thinking this would be a great way to do it, I noticed there's an event on in watergrasshill this weekend. I might pop along to have a look and a chat. Would really love to do this, what way do the seasons run will possibly take a while to build up the money to get started.

    Quality production.

A little out of touch here but at 1:20 there's a lad scraping at a rear tyre with some kind of flametorch, what's the purpose of this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,946 ✭✭✭SouperComputer

Yeah basically removing all the picked up marbles from the tread.

Trailer link is working again for that movie...
I'm working on a little montage/collage of onboards myself wont be anything near as fancy as this of course.

Any of your lads/lassies running the winter series at Tullyallen? You know you want to :)
Hoping for a little organised racing on a frozen lake this year. Gets talked about every year so we'll see if it actually happens.

I wouldn't mind doing a karting round, any idea how much a weekends renting would cost?

No idea to be honest. With a "top" team might be more than a Vee LOL. If you get in touch with Tulleyallen I'm sure they would be able to get you something thats competitive and not too expensive to rent.

Random thought, but do you reckon we should arrange a 'boards karting day'? Try get a load of people for a karting day!

Limerick has NKC, Delta, Abbeyfeale and Kilcornan. NKC has extended their track massively, haven't been there yet but the lads say it's brilliant.

Cool, How fast are the karts there.

They feel faster than your average Honda karts with one engine. They're pretty new. Delta karts are rubbish. Kilcornan have pro-karts (two honda engines in one kart) but most people find the track very boring as after a lap or two, you can take the whole track flat out. I personally haven't been to Abbeyfeale and I haven't heard about their karts.

I don't know about that, it's an indoor track. TBH I really have no idea how fast the karts are, it's so hard to tell when your that low to the ground and don't have a speedo. I doubt it's all that fast in NKC, it's an indoor track like.

YMMV but top speeds are usually 30-35MPH at the max for indoors and 50-55 outdoors.
You can take practically any typical hire kart track/kart combo flat out all the way around, you won't necessarily be quick though ;)

NKC looks like good craic incidentally... Hadn't even heard of it until today....

In Kilcornan you will. There's one place you can brake if you want, the rest of the track is flat out. :pac:

Yeah Kilcornan is flat out the whole way round. Shocking track but karting is always good craic I suppose.

That's a really old layout, it's been changed a few times since.

There's a new layout which is much longer that has opened in the last week or so:

Tynagh isn't much better ha, I remember for the craic seeing how much of the lap I could do without lifting my foot off full throttle, I think there is only one corner you actually have to brake for!

When I can afford I really want to start racing karts. I'm looking for a fairly fast decent set up will be based out of Switzerland. Is there any recommendations? Any leagues I need to be in? I'm 18, and I know I'm already quite old to be getting into it but I'm pretty keen.

    All help appreciated :)

    Have a read though this....
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056708778

Not sure how it will apply to Switzerland but will get you started. 18 I'snt old at all. Many are in their 50's racing karts.

ah sweet yeah reading through it now. where would be a better place to race, located out of vancouver or Zurich. In terms of accessibility to races, winning race money, different leagues and options. Thanks for the reply soupercomputer!

also what should i look for in a kart? is there any good websites in europe that i can browse which sell used shifter karts?

No chance of taking Watergrasshill flat out. Top speed from a hire kart on a lap would be about 60KPH. Great track.

Oh you can go flat out all the way at Watergrassshill in a rental alright. Yes, even the second corner. It's just not going to net you a quick lap time. That's that I was getting at.
