    You're missing the entire point.

Some people sit around and mope and cry to cope.
Others try to use humour to cope.

And some people try to post something funny as quickly as possible to get a few thanks and lulz. From my experience on AH, such comments are less to do with your reasons and more to do with mine.

Oh well, think what you like. You don't need to believe me. We can have seperate opinions :)

So taking bets at their reasons. Seem to well organised for random nuts, gonna go with anti-establishment "RRAAAGH Take back Amurika from dem Nazi-Socialist-Communists in Washington....RAAGH 2nd Amurikan Revolution" gun-nuts. If the rumours of the Bane outfits are true then
it fits with the hints at what the film portrays him and his gang as.

    But sadly....
Theyll be blaming everything from Call of Duty to Batman now without questioning anything half way realistic.
    RIP

...will probably be what happens. One of them will have a copy of CoD4 he played a few years back and it wil all be pinned on that, just like Anders Breyvik didnt butcher 90 people because of his massively warped social ideals he laid out in a giant thesis, nope it was WoW's fault.

    an equally stupid idea
the drug gangs and various assorted criminal ****wits won't give a **** about gun control laws the only people who will be affected by them are the ordinary citizens or victims as they will be known from here on out.

the issues with shootings in america have a lot less to do with guns than they do with how ****ed up america(ns) is/are in general.
Yes an "equally stupid" idea to limit the supply of guns in a country with one of the highest rate of gun deaths in the world...

This bloke doesn't sound like a gang member, he probably owns the guns legally because there is an insane gun culture in the US.

Anyway, not the thread for this...

    Eh?

If you stop selling guns and ammo out of the local 7/11, supply slows down. Strict policy on licensing laws so not anyone can get a gun. This still leaves millions of guns in the general population but at least supply has been stopped. Over time it would certainly help.

Throw in a bit of education at school level for good measure.

In all fairness, this is an internet forum, its anonymous (although you probably could find out someones identity through old posts) and that anonymity allows us to say things that wouldn't normally be accepted in society,i think that's why a lot of people come here in the first place.

A few jokes to lighten the mood are ok i think, and the 'naming and shaming of people' that made jokes in this thread, just LOL.People come here, make up a silly username and talk crap! If anyone here thinks they have some sort of 'Reputation' around here because of there username all i can say is you need to get of the internet.

Yeah because people would rightly get a kicking, verbal or othrwise, for saying something like that irl.

Just because you are anonymous here, it doesn't mean it's ok to joke about something like this.

I'm not moping or crying, I just think that this is a tragic situation and my first inclination wasn't to take the piss because a. it's a very raw incident that has just happened and b. the circumstances sound horrific.

That would seem to be a fairly normal reaction but hey, if your "gallow humours" defence gives you a sense of moral equivalence - that it's your way of "coping" - to say what you like then that's your prerogative. I think anyone whose first reaction is to make a joke about a situation like this so soon is scum.

Hang on, you're going from someone making an inappropiate joke (opinion only) to saying they would get beaten up in person? How the f**k can you lecture others when you're mentioning people getting a kicking for a joke?

if you stop selling petrol it'd cut down on road deaths too

Unconfirmed now that a baby is amongst the deaths. Plenty more material for AH eh?

Ya I heard that also shot at point blank. Very sad and the jokes here are horrible. I heard the gunman/gunmen were dressed in kevlar and had gasmasks did people think they were dressed as Bane or something:mad:.

1 person in custody and they think 1 at large and its very residental. I have a bad feeling more may happen.

I know you cant lump of of the people in the US together but the gun laws need severe updating

Why was a baby at the midnight showing of a movie? Absolutely ridiculous parenting

    Crazy update from @BreakingNews:

"Suspect made statements about explosives in his apartment, police evacuate North Aurora, Colorado apartment block."

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭PinkFly

death toll rising to 14, how sad.

Oh, I'm sure you're "coping" just fine. Go on then, give us a baby joke too? No boundaries in "Gallows humour" is there?

I didn't realise a baby was involved until later on, it is terrible. But please read my post above (where I quote myself).

I have deleted my "joke" posts and the only thing I tried to rationalise was the coping with such an act with levity. I wouldn't wish harm nor would I like to hurt anyone so the only way I deal with it is to joke.

And as I mentioned earlier there were other posters saying worse things than I was. I was referring to their gun laws, not the killings. So please stop putting me in the stocks and throwing rotten fruit.

I feel guilty about smuggling sweets into a cinema yet there's some who think they can bring guns in and change people's lives for the worse. Sick.

    🤪

Why was a baby apparently shot in the face at point blank range? You might be judging the wrong person here...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,579 ✭✭✭charlietheminxx

    Apparently 14 dead now :(

This really is the most shocking thing I've heard about in a long time. To think that people didn't run because they thought it was a publicity stunt at first..... it's sickening and frightening.

Actually my way was "that's horrible" then it was "instead of feeling sad, maybe I should cheer myself up", then it was "it worked, maybe it'll work for others".
Personally I think you need a sense of humour but each to their own I guess.

My only contribution to the thread...

The people posting jokes about this are an absolute ****ing disgrace.

And yes, I'm going to name you...

    hande_hoche
    chin_grin
    brutal deluxe

    Grow the **** up.

if you actually look through my posts in the thread you'll see that although i do post jokes i also post some serious comments and info that I read. My first post in the thread was the first thing that went through my head when i seen the headline on sky news this morning.

It doesn't make me callus or heartless it makes me me!

Granted if i personally knew a person affected I would have a different mindset but i don't so therefore that connection is not there.

That does not mean i don't feel sorry for these people who went to a cinema for a movie with friends and family and won't be coming home.

According to him it means you'd get beaten up in person if you said a joke like that. I don't get it. They come to AH, they know what AH is like. And then they equate people making jokes with deserving to be beaten up. I think I know what I'd say is worse and it's not the jokes.

CNN are saying the baby was wounded, not fatal. I just cant understand bringing a baby to a movie like that. I wouldn't bring my 3yr old to a kid's club movie during the day.

    You're missing the entire point.

Some people sit around and mope and cry to cope.
Others try to use humour to cope.

As someone who recently had a bereavement, I get the "humour as a coping mechanism" thing. But people have been murdered in horrific circumstances.

Can you not keep the sick jokes to yourself right now?

Jesus just heard there; a woman that was interviewed earlier said she saw the baby being shot!

That is fcuking beyond horrific, to see that. Bad enough thinking about it. Feel sorry for that woman too.

Edit: The screen next to it (screen 8) were getting bullets through the walls into their cinema and a few got injured there too.
