Well, if you want to get a CRT for the Super Scope, don't get one with a flat screen. James Rolfe demonstrated that in one of his AVGN videos, if I recall.

The Rage probably referred to it as a mystery prize worth €100. :D

How does it compare with the Menacer for the Megadrive?

I wish I knew what I did with my Scope back in the day. I remember gettting one as a kid, playing the socks off it for a few weeks, and then it just disappeared. Are they pretty tiny in size? I remember them seeming like the right size to feel like a big old rocket launcher back then, but I was about ten years old at the time. I'd imagine they feel teeny weeny to a grown man though.

Super scope only or all light guns? I use Megadrive Justifiers and Dreamcast lightguns with my flat trinitron and they all work grand :)

Was just watching the World Fair episode where bar gets the fake license and rents the car. Absolute gold, haven't seen it in years!

I think it might be a sensor issue with the Scope, since I don't think it compensates for the flatscreens. It can be a bit off from where you want to aim it at, just a tad bit up.

I could think of at least two things that were wrong with using Naked Lunch as a title.

I still have my super scope, pretty much CIB. Lord knows it hasn't come out of the box since two weeks after xmas 1993. was there ever another game released after the pack in?

Finally soldered by destroyed PS1/PS2 RGB cable back together. I can now play some Playstation goodness in RGB and 4:3. I have the evening free, I could finish Resi 6 or else play some PS goodness... this one might be a no brainer.

There were a few. Tin Star and Battle Clash were pretty damn good.

I used to think that all those PC gamers saying they were going to pirate a game with Games for Windows Live were just being petulant but I'm having my first experience of the 'service' right now. I just wanted to give Bioshock 2 a quick blast. So I sign in, use my XBox account and it then has to download my account details. Which takes 5 minutes and then promptly fails. I try again and I'm prompted I need an update. 10 minutes later I'm prompted to restart the. I restart the game it tries to log in, fails to download my account details 3 times (10 minutes to fail each time) then prompts me that the game needs an update. So I'm waiting for the game to update now and it's been over an hour and it's only about 33% complete. It's put me off buying anything with it now.

Everyone needs to watch Wolf Children. The most incredible anime or indeed animated film I've had the privilege to watch in a long time.

Wolf Children is really brilliant. Pisses all over Ghibli's From up on Poppy Hill.

Yeah I have to say I was extremely impressed by it. Glad I got to see it in a Cinema. I must watch Summer Wars soon.

There was a Mario title were you rode around on the back of Yoshi, from what I can recall. Never played it though, but I remember my mate telling me about it from his gaming magazines. Apparently, if you accidently shot your Yoshi, a wee plaster would appear where you hit him.

Yoshi Safari is compatible I think, was Wild Guns?

Are DS games region free? I saw a game in dublin when I was passing through last week. I was tempted to pick it up, but it was an American copy. I'd gotten burned just before xmas buy unwittingly buying an American PS2 title, so I decided not to take the chance with the DS game. However, the guy that I'm living with at the moment tells me that the DS runs games from anywhere in the world. Apparently one of the Castlevania games that I borrowed off me was an American cart, but it ran grand in my console.

Has anyone here got the facts on this?

Ds games are region free and so is the original ds console and the ds lite. However DSi and DSi enhanced games and 3DS games are region locked as well as any DSi console onwards.

So basically if you have an original DS or a lite it'll play anything. If it's a DSi it depends on the game.

Wild Guns isn't compatible and wouldn't have worked with it anyway since it's a Cabal style game.

DS games will work and are region free. The exception to this is if you have a DSi. Some later games with DSi enhanced features like pokemon black and white and solatorobo are region locked on DSi but are region free on all other DS models.

Deadly stuff. Cheers, lads. I never knew this, and I wasn't sure wether or not my mate was just winding me up. Yeah, it's the original DS that I pack. Big brick of a thing it is too. I reckon you could probably club a man to death with it. I'll be heading through Dublin again at the weekend, so if that game is still there, it's mine!

Also, on the topic of DS, has anyone seen the intro to it's port of Spider-Man: Friend or Foe? The graphics are absolutely stunning, and by far the best I've ever seen on DS!... Unfortunately, that seems to be were the awesome stops :(

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,321 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

It's really not that impressive, plenty of games on the DS have CG intro's. Square Enix does it a lot with the likes of Dragon Quest IX, FFIV, FFIII and FF four heroes of light. The DS is more than powerful enough to play video.

Best looking games on the system from a technical level for me are Dragon Quest X, Dragon Quest monsters Joker 2, Bowsers Inside Story, Castlevania Order of Ecclessia, Etrian Odyssey, Zelda Spirit Tracks and Sonic and Sega Racing.

It's certainly the most impressive I've seen. Most games I've play on it have intros with text/voice overs across still pictures. I can't think of another title with full CG like that, but I haven't played any of Square Enix's stuff on DS. Like I said though, the Spidey game itself is seems very week.

All it's doing is running a low resolution video, it's not that demanding. The tech in the DS is way beyond the power required to do that, sure the GBA has a few games with CG videos.

His technical ability and how the whole thing is put together is really impressive - but what a complete and utter waste of time! And a waste of good consoles.:(

Why go through all that and use a ps1 D pad on the master controller?
Why go through all that and play the games in 16:9 on a horrible big LCD?
    Pig ugly looking thing too.

He actually didn't give me too much trouble in the end. I kept hearing about how hard he was so I kept putting it off and wandered around doing lots of other stuff instead. Even managed to get to Blight Town somehow, but can't for the life of me find a near by bonfire to make much progress there. So by the time I took on the Capra demon the equipment I had made it pretty handy for me... That grass shield is brilliant.

Capra Demon was my one main stuck point in that game. Just kept getting mangled by him, even when I got passed the dogs.

Once you figure out the pattern of running up the stairs, falling down and repeating he's okay...although you still have to get by those damn dogs!

It's more of a game breaking glitch than a hard boss.
