Damn it slave. With the pics of New forest last week and now Esker Hills, I am itching to go to both places. But not a chance of that happening for at least two weeks I reckon :-(

Some shots from Birr, a VERY different course from when I played it about a decade ago, new opening stretch and they've virtually eliminated the number of holes that crossed each other...

@slave, that last shot of Esker Hills is stunning!!

Thanks, I actually waited for the shade of the cloud to move from behind me and tried to catch the shade halfway down the hole, delighted with the result.
They now have their greens almost full fescue grass so more links style bump and run now.
Had a treble on the first and then 10bogeys and 7pars for 13over then went home for a break and some grub and couldn't hit a barn door in Birr for 25over, stupid game...

@kceire, was that fairway wet, just interested in knowing because it was brutal wet when we played there in September last year....

    Wet would be an understatement.
Quite muddy in places and the constant rain yesterday afternoon didn't help.

Lovely course, would love to play again on a nice day.

I played with my work society. Only my third outing and my first with new putter and clubs. Enjoyed it though, even if the scoring doesn't reflect that :D

Sounds similar to the day we played it so but the 18th in particular was just soaked, did you know the 'rocks and cliff' to the right of the 7th are all artificial.

Had a feeling. They looked very man made. But then again I did study civil and structural engineering so maybe I had an advantage :D

*i got a close up if them. My ball decided he wanted to go for a swim ;)

Played it in April - still think it's a rubbish course. Even my dad, who normally wouldn't say a bad word about anyone/thing, was surprised by how poor it was. Last few holes are grand but, for the green fees, the rest are just pants!

It's certainly no Druids Heath to Druids Glen, much better complimentary courses

How much would normal fees be? We payed €40 in our society.

Website lists €95-€135. No doubt you can get it cheaper than that.

I think we paid something like €40/€45 for our society and that included breakfast

Well the only change from last year is they have extended the 11th tee box back some 10/15 yards which took quite a lot of build up as it's an elevated tee.
Tee boxes all good, rough was thick, really wanted to keep an eye on your ball to find it quickly, greens were fine, hard to find your pitch-mark but all putts were true. Fairways were wet, we had constant muck-balls and got the general impression they were more "February/March not dried out" rather than May, granted there was some heavy rain recently but other courses in the area were not as affected, certainly no muck balls that I can remember.
Still a great course but the muck balls were a put off...
