8 badminton players have been disqualified from the Olympics cos they tried to through their group games - delighted

Excuse my sporting ignorance, but why did they do that? Was reading about it earlier.

So that they'd meet an 'easier' opponent in later round.

Heartbroken for him, he'd been going so well in previous rounds :(

Especially since he came so close in Beijing.

They were trying to throw games in order to influence the next round draw - the teams are in groups, and its top 2 qualify. The Chinese top pair lost, so the other Chinese pair were trying to lose so that it would not be possible for those two pairs to meet until the final. Koreans got annoyed, so did the same thing as the Chinese, and deliberately dropped points.

The other match has another Korean pair and an Indonesian pair, not sure why they wanted to throw that game tbh - maybe it was so that they couldn't win the group, and meet either of the Chinese pairs

"okay okay feck it lets just do it now"
she was being all sympathetic and were you putting it off, and i was like no im THAT busy and told her why
then she was being all reassuring which was nice, you're doing well, nearly there now, i was like, lady after getting butchered on my first wax last year this aint nothin

My Dad is in A&E. He was cutting weeds for someone and got part of a thistle in his eye! :(

I'm looking up directions to the Eye & Ear in Dublin because he's probably going to be sent there.. Panicking a bit I have to say.

Woke up with The Coldsore That Ate The World this morning. So annoyed, as I have a date tomorrow night. I never even felt it coming; went to bed absolutely fine, woke up with what looked like extremely localised filler in my bottom lip.

I'm in a major huff now.

Oh you poor thing. I feel your pain. I get them all the time too. If there's any sort of occasion coming up I am guaranteed to break out in one. Mine have gotten so bad that I have to take aciclovir in tablet form. Nothing else works & it goes all up into my jaw. Not fun. Unfortunately aciclovir is prescription only here & crazy expensive. You can get it cheaply over the counter in Spain though so I usually ask my mum to pick some up for me when she's away.

I have found in the past though that teabags can help speed up the healing time. Supposedly the tannic acid in tea has antiviral properties. If you place the warm wet teabag on the cold sore itself & lie there & relax with it for about 20-30mins. Repeat as often as you can. It won't magically disappear but it does seem heal a bit faster. Note: it can leave your skin a bit stained though just FYI.

My mom got something similar stuck in her eye a few months ago, she doesn't know exactly what bit it was but she bent down and didn't see a spiky bit of a plant and it went into her eye and broke off. She just had to go to her GP who sent her to local Optometrist or whatever and he fished it out. She had to go back again a couple of weeks ago because a few other shards were lodged in her eye but no permanent damage. Hopefully your Dad will be fine, are there no Eye specialists closer to you than Dublin?

I hope he's okay, Paw! The Eye and Ear are great so if he is sent there he'll be in very good hands. xx

I'm not actually sure about that. I thought Tullamore but apparently that's an ENT clinic and not and Eye clinic. Hopefully he won't have to be sent there but I looked up directions just in case. :)

I'm having one of those days where I just want to crawl back to my bed :(. Think its the weather and stress. Have to go to a party on Sat night, have known about it for ages and was looking forward to it, today I just feel 'meh.. Do I have to go?'.

In relation to cold sores I always find vodka helps, (ya forget about it!), no seriously applied on it, it kinda dries it up so to speak..

On a different note, anybody here ever read a 'Karen Rose' book? I'm addicted to her at the minute!

I woke up this morning and the strangest thing happened. I thought I was in work and kept thinking, "Just get through this phone call and you can go to the bathroom" and I was asking the questions I'd generally ask on the phone in my head.

Then when I finished, I got out of bed, went to the bathroom and was really sick repeatedly.

I went back to sleep, woke up a while ago and now I'm completely fine. Don't know what that was!

I actually didn't eat anything last night :o I was too busy in work so I didn't take a break, I hadn't eaten since about 2pm yesterday. No idea what happened but I feel absolutely fine now!

I've been dabbing the oul surgical spirits on every hour, it's the only thing that seems to speed up healing time for me.

As an aside, I had to go to three different chemists before I could get it - what's that about?

I can do the running no problemo - it's the obstacles that are looking horrible! Luckily i have met a guy as a running partner who has signed up with me, and we're promisiong to stick together for the race and pull each other up and over things. (Rephrase that, he will drag me along :D).

Good luck! My bro in law and mate did it last year and loved it. Though my friend lost one of her runners in one of the water obstacles :p
