Its such a physically demanding sport, but the real struggle is how fickle a career it is. For a run of the mill player, once you slip out of the NFL there are very few options. Unlike soccer or even baseball where there are lower leagues as a safety net.

I see Manti Te'o is bringing a bunch of his friends to the game tomorrow:

Something that had annoyed me a couple of years ago with LT Lights out and Sproles was our fan base.
They would never shut up when our offence was on the field, making loads of noise.

Now they wont attend and let away fans fill the stadium, making it like a home game for the away team defence.
San Diego is a great city and I would rather they stayed in San Diego but year by year LA sounds better.

It's a valid point in fairness. No offence to yee, your fans in SD are awful. No guarantee LA will be a lot better mind you.

While watching an otherwise superb display (mostly) by the Chargers last night I couldnt help but being bugged by how many away fans fill the stadium and make so much noise in our house. Our fans did get louder as the game went on though to be fair but its a recurring theme over the years. It was horrible hearing so much noise when we were on offense.

However lets face it. San Diego is probably the best city in the league to take in for an "away" game. Im sure fans of each one of the 8 teams that go there mark it down as thier "away trip" for the season.

If we replicate wins like last night going forward Im sure there will be a lot less tickets for those away fans to gobble up.

I hope the Chargers never move from SD.

Great to see the Defense stepping up and making plays. Sacks and takeaways...thats what we have been missing!

Rivers and the Wisenhunts offense was awesome from 1 minute left in the first half through to the end. What a breath of fresh air it was after the last few years of Norv.

Great to see Keenan Allen making plays and hats off to Tom Telesco for getting Danny Woodhead. Inspired pickup!!

I think the fans got completely fed up with the old regime and are waiting for the new one to show things have changed. I think the new regime are great, really liked how they organised the day when groups of players went around the city meeting fans, gestures like that matter.

It was a really good win last night and it feels like a long time since we overcame a two score deficit. We've also a lot of injuries so to get a win relying on roster depth is a major boost. The defence made plays when it mattered which is something I've been critical about previously.

We're a work in progress but there's so many good positives in our play from last night

I would hate the Chargers to leave SD and Dean I think wants to stay but our fan base is pretty poor. Hopefully it changes with a new stadium and the new management.

Was looking at pictures of the stadium, it is in need of serious work.

On the game I think we are playing really well all year. Crazy to think we could of been 4-0.
Keenan had a great game I think personally he is different class to Brown. Can't wait to see him next week.
Well done to our Oline, this offense scheme really suits the weakness of our Oline, unlike Norv trying to throw bombs with no Oline.

Great to see Gates playing well, may that continue.

Gilchrist and Weddle made some big plays.

Overall a good days work but have to make it count next week against the Raiders.

Move to LA?, no freakin way. It would kill me were they to move. Setanta make s v good point it is a great city to visit for an 'away' game.

What a performance Sunday night, wow. The O looks incredible. Rivers in total control and Allen coming good, with Gates showing the young guns how its done. Even Mathews/run game kept them honest. Woodhead is such a good player it is unreal, New England losing him was a bit like us losing Sproles to nice karma there. Even thought the beat up O line did v well and they will only get better. Give Rivers time and no D has a chance simples.

Have to say that as good as rivers played I was really annoyed about that interception he threw, he needed to take the sack. If he keeps up his 11:2 td:int ratio I'll forgive him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,277 ✭✭✭Justin10

I would hate for us to move to LA too, but got it so disappointing seeing the same thing week in week out from the fans.
Hopefully a new stadium will be on the cards soon.

Great to see Rivers back to his best. I think his pre snap reads are fantastic. Giving us the best look the whole time.

Four massive games coming up, then we welcome the Donkeys. I cant wait for that game. Next four games should also be good games. Disappointing we have to travel to play the Jags, that could be tough. then having to travel to Washington.

The Chargers Power hour lads reckoned it was 60:40 Cowboys Chargers fans in the Q. That is outrageous, just goes to show how much poison was spilled by AJ and Norv. Having said that this coaching staff & team needs to be backed 100% now. They've already shown me they are a massive improvement on what has gone before. Whiz and McCoy have worked their magic on O and Rivers looks like a complete stud again.

To the folks of SD, get out and support our Bolts, you have no excuse not to any more....

60:40 is a shocking stat. Anyone know if our ticket prices are above league average?

Rough guess I would say we charge around the average. Not cheap but not Dallas or New York expensive either

Yeah I'd go with average. Certainly not Jerry Jones prices. SD is such a beautiful place, there is so much to do on a Sunday I guess and having too much of Norv has put some off for quite a while methinks.

Yeah I reckoned we'd be about average. Its disheartening to see as a fan so must be awful for players. I'd love to be able to go to the Q

Eugene Monroe for a couple of third round picks, would have been great. Although King has performed really well to be honest

Typical good value move from the Ravens. He's in a contract year so i reckon they'll have to fork out quite a bit but he's worth it. It probably means McKinnie is available now but **** him, Dunlap has come in and played awesome for us, he's giving 100% out there and that's the type of guy we need

He's good but not great. Better than King probably but worth two 3rds I dunno. Next years draft has more great linemen coming out and it's not like Fisher and Johnson and Joeckel have set the world alight.

Maybe a real good un will slip to pick 32 :D

Sorry wasn't even 3rd round picks, was day 3 picks. Even better value. Missed that he was in a contract year though. Ravens are surely not great for cash though with that ridiculous Flacco contract and Oher is up for renewal this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭OAOB

I'd imagine Oher will be sacrificed for Monroe, harder position to fill and Oher has been inconsistent while Monroe has improved a lot the last few years.
If Dunlap keeps going as he is we might not be prioritising an o-lineman in the first, LB and DB is a bigger need so far this year.
Really hope we can kick on this weekend, put 2 really good performances in a row

Freeney going to IR really sucks. He's been our only pass rush so far this year. Hope his recovery goes well, proved he has plenty left in the tank.

I'm kind of relieved floyd is, that was a serious injury he suffered and no point risking his health. Our receivers have enough talent and depth to overcome his loss.

    Any word on melvins progress?

I keep seeing Melvin in shots, be it on the sideline or the changing rooms. Apparently he is wearing out the hill beside Chargers Park i.e. running up it so much, which sounds good to me. You have to imagine if he is doing that his knee/leg is strong/getting stronger.

Agree about Freeney he sure looked like he had plenty left. Big loss. Looking forward to seeing what Tourek and esp Keiser can do now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭OAOB

Getting melvin back would be huge for us. I wouldn't imagine his production to be great straight away coming off an injury like that but at least he'd not miss a full year of football.

My expectations for tourek and keiser are low enough but hopefully they can contribute

    Jaysus.....

I had the alarm set for 0530 this morn lads. Plan was to watch the game from the start and "catch up on live" by FFing thru the ads.

Feckin gamepass launched Live and there we were nearing end of 2nd quarter 17 zip down. I was ragin.

Anyhows stuck with it until Derek Cox gave up the 3rd and 14 in the 4th.

Can't comment on what went before end Q2 as I've not seen that yet but can comment on how poor our corners are in general. Yes the running game stank too but we seem to be always capable of failing on the most important play of the game. I thought it interesting that instead of having the Raiders at 4th and inches McCoy took the penalty and made it 3rd and 14, not that that was the wrong decision, just interesting.

    So, what positives then?

The young wideouts impressed me. Keenan Allen is going to be something really special, remember he is only 21. Great 3rd round pick TT. Even Vincent Brown showed up today, I've been on his case quite a bit so glad to see it.

All in all though a horrific loss to a team that is not better than us imho.

Got up at 6 to catch the second half, as soon as i saw the 17-0 score i was wondering why the hell i bohered.

I've been disappointed with the DB play all year but after only seeing the second half i thought our defensive front 7 were really good. JJ has really increased his standard of play this year, English created pressure but just couldn't seem to finish the play. We badly need a CB.

It was a disappointing loss against a teram i think we're far better than, they scored 27 points and 17 were from us turning the ball over.

We've a young team and this whole year is a learning experience as far as i'm concerned. Keenan Allen looks like a potential superstar and he was Rivers go to guy last night. Not sure what happened Harris but Becton didn't do terrible.

Hate losing to the Raiders but hopefully we'll learn the lessons and hammer them in the Q later in the year.

Agree on JJ and yeah, imagine, we were down to our 3rd string Left Tackle in Becton. I guess Dunlap at a minimum will be back next week. Andrew Luck must be licking his chops coming to play these guys. Time to get Shareece Wright back in there over Cox.
