Only caught our game on redzone and highlights on NFL.com today. Have to say Rivers stats look mighty impressive. Thats the dude we know and love (well most of us). Kudos to PR and his OL. Saw one play where King Dunlap just wiped out a pass rusher and remembered how nice it was to have Tackles who used to be able to do that on a regular basis.

I liked what Wisenhunt was doing with our offense in this game, marshalled by Rivers of course and way to go Eddie Royal for stepping up bigtime. Feel real bad for M80. Hope its not a long term injury.

Make no mistake this was a huge win on the road against an Eagles team that people were raving about. I know we can complain about some of the defense in this game especially Safety play and failures to sack Vick. Time of possession was interesting if you breakdown the scoring per minute but hell look at our 3rd down conversions only 6 days after our collapse against Houston.

Positive Positive Positive. Bring on those Titans!!

Agree with you Setanta, magnificent win on the road, hostile place, team with a great O but ****e D (bit like us eh).

Seriously though Whiz's O suits our leader to a tee. He had probably the best game of his career last nite and needed to as the pass D (our old nemesis) let us down badly.

The 2 fumbles were v costly made the game somewhat closer than it probably could have been. Philly had no answer for Philip. Malcom was having a fantastic game, was open all day until the injury. Sounds like he'll be fine, I'd say a couple of weeks and he might be back. Still don't understand why we are not seeing more of Green. He was barely on the field last nite.

Safety play as Setanta mentioned was awful. Gilchrist has no clue what he is supposed to be doing, Wright was toast all day trying to cover DJackson. Pagano and Milus better get their act together. Why isn't Taylor playing SS in the box and Weddle roaming/helping the corners?

Next sundays game has the potential to be a cracker, Rivers is really performing well and the Secondary of the Titans will need to be on form

Sure will. How is Locker doing? he seems to be coming on no?

He made 2 excellent TD passes last night, the one to wright was very good.

He only went for 150 yards or so, however he had a key misfire on 3rd down which the WR dropped (but the pass was too high) if we made that play we would have won the game.

Improved overall but still needs work in areas

Its was a really good road win and to bounce back after last weeks disaster is going to be great for morale.

I would be confident against the Titans, two teams with a lot of question marks over them but I think we match up pretty well

Great win, fantastic to see us bounce back from last week and also we kept going even after Malcom went down.
Wright was getting roasted by Jacksons speed but Gilchrist could and probably was designed to do something more important.
I would like to think Pagano knew Wright needed help but Gilchrist needed to do something more important, like the great play he made to save a TD.
Disappointed this year including pre season with Weddle, has missed numerous tackles that has cost us big so far. Something he was so solid at.

Just looking at the schedule we could go 6 on the bounce, of course we could easily loose some of them games, like next week but we could also win them.
Need to get as many wins out of the next 6 because tough games lie ahead after that.

Good man Rochey the glass is 3/4 full now!!!!, 6 on the bounce wow.

Was that a partial or full defence of Gilly above?

I think even a pessimistic fan, going each game at a time could say each game is winnable from the next 6.
After that it gets difficult, but do well in the next 6 and it truly will be all about division games.

Not a defence of him but more of a, lets wait and see. No point rushing Taylor back. It was so clear Wright needed help that I would like to think Gilchrist was assigned to do something, which I for one second wont pretend to know what it was, but just that when something is so obvious for so long, clearly imo he was needed somewhere else. Especially for a guy that knows the corner position.
Surprised we haven't seen him blitz more, which I think he is great at, seems like its more so Weddle, who I would think QBs know where he is all of the time, unlike Gilchrist.

Great win, well done to Allen too, came in and made two massive catches.
Really looking forward to the Titans game, Ill miss it because of the All-Ireland but hopefully they pull it off.

Wouldn't be too hard on Mathews either, he has progressed under this new scheme.
I always compare him to Moreno and CJ Spiller who we where predicted to be interested in.
Mathews has more yards then both and played a year less then Moreno.
Similar receiving yards to Spiller too, more TDs then Spiller and only two less then Moreno, and remember Norv would take him out of the game in the redzone. Yet the other two are thought of more highly then Mathews.
Mathews also only has two more fumbles then Spiller including this year, but has recovered one more then Spiller.

Impressive defence of Matthews there...really hope the guy has a good season. We need a solid running game especially if our receivers go down.

With ref to Gilly, he sure looked to me like a guy who wasn't sure what he was doing when DJack was screaming past Shareece. I've been having this debate on another board. Weddle is supposed to be the center fielder roaming FS but because he (has been) such a sure tackler Pagano likes to play him in the box/near the line. I even saw him play Walker's position at one point sunday when we had Addae on the field too. So it means that Pagano is not playing Weddle like a true FS, so it means we need a true FS and I would have thought Gilly would be our man but he doesn't seem to be. Also agree I'd like to see Gilly come on the blitz now and again, he seemed to have some success doing that last year.

Agree with Setanta good defence of #24. If u asked me now out of those 3 I'd have to give him a squeak over Spiller but just about. But the fear of God is struck into me now each time Ryan gets it.

Unlucky... clutch drive from Locker but the pass that was picked off by Weddle and then dropped again was just unreal.

It took a fantastic catch by Hunter to win the game and for all the plaudits our D-line has gotten, we only got one sack all game.

Also just a ridiculous play at the end of the game :D

Congrats on the win. No doubt about it the play that won the game deserves to win any game. Fantastic throw and catch. The game coulda gone either way of course, which has been the case in all 3 of our games now jeeeez, we could be 3 and 0 or 0 and 3. The lad dropping the INT that would have ended the game (provided he didn't do a Marlon McCree) was Marcus Gilchrist, if it were Weddle we'd probably be 2 and 1.

No idea why Gilly continues to start at supposed SS, the guy (imo) does not appear to know what he is doing and when he is gifted the opportunity to win the game for his team he fails.

We're just not that good a team. The O line that finished the game yesterday had every position changed apart from center. So we were on our last legs. The ILBs we had are at best special teamers. But hats off to Locker he showed me some stuff last nite, especially considering he is trying to get it t Britt lots (what is it with that lad?).

Britt should be an elite player but he's not, the first pass of the game, he was wide open and he drops it. There were a few others that were contested but he didnt make one catch and he was rightly benched, you could forgive Hunter for making those mistakes but not Britt.

I imagine Britt will see limited snaps from here on out with Hunter taking more and more of them, the guy has all the attributes to be a quality WR, big, tall and fast with good hands.

Also Rivers must surely have cost you guys a TD with that penalty

He certainly cost us 15 yds which is kinda inexcusable. The penalty on Allen could have been not called as easily as it was called but Philip is a fiery lad and it gets the better of him now and again. First time he's been penalised for it though and hopefully the last. The fact that he's such a holy joe who never curses seems to have saved him up to now.

I'd put that more on Pagano, Gilchrist and Butler (the new guy) losing the game for us than Locker being clutch. I definitely would not be excited over Locker if I was a Titans fan.

Also Rivers was a muppet on Sunday with that Penalty. Not really sure why we refused to throw the ball at all in the 4th quarter. Only thing I can think of is that we didn't have much of an offensive line left at that point.

I agree that Locker has not all of a sudden become a great QB, heck at this stage Blaine Gabbert is probably dying to play the Chargers. I also agree that the state the O line was in was defo a factor in choosing to run run run at the end. I see McCoy has also said giving the opponent 95 yds to go in 2 mins no timeouts is something he will take every time and I would too so this defeat rests largely on Pags and his D. It was interesting that McCoy chose to stick with largely the same D Norv had, maybe he thinks that wasn't the wisest choice now?

Have to agree that our D has been poor this year. I don't think all the players are playing at the same level as last year but play calling has been very suspect at times. Losing melvin has been a big hindrance to our pass rush though so pagano has an excuse there. Wonder will getting Te'o on the field make a difference

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 391 ✭✭setanta74

You look at the Titans and Jake Locker and you back them up to their own goal line with 2 minutes to go with no timeouts you have to think the game is over. That loss is all down to the Defense. The interception that Gilchrist dropped was gameover. These guys get probably one or two opportunities each game to make a big play. They get paid big bucks to do that. They practice all week, the preparation is unreal so when you get your hands on the ball in that situation you have to secure it. Fair enough he got hit after the catch but you train hard for those situations. He should have smothered that ball like his life depended on it.

It was a push off for the winning touchdown too. As someone who loves defense and feels bad for all the corners throughout the league getting rough calls for pass interference I was a bit angry about that one. CB's get a raw deal a lot of the time.

Its not an excuse though. We should have closed it out.

These things balance out, earlier in the game there Hunter should have had a TD he was in the endzone and the defender push his hands down to stop him catching the ball and it wasnt called.

But the dropped Int  I was thinking game over at that point, Walker made the hit but I really think the defender should have held the ball

I remember that call and was thinking oopps we might get a flag here so you are right to mention that. But I still think corners are punished more than the receivers in general.

fully agree, it was like that call with GB/Seattle last year (ignoring the replacement refs) is that the attackers get the benefit of the doubt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,017 ✭✭✭Leslie91

Yeah I agree, the O gets away with stuff the D does not. Like you said there was at least 1 (imo) blatant pass interference not called on a Charger DB earlier in the game so these things can balance out. Having said that I wouldn't be of the opinion that Hunter's shove on Butler on TD was offensive PI that should have been called. I reckon 2 out of 10 of those get called in the NFL. We shoulda had the game won a few plays before that when Gilly dropped the freakin ball.

Could be an early Wild Card difference maker.

Howya Davy thanks for stopping by.

"Looking sharp" we may be on O but our D is having a mare of a start to the season. Injuries, no pass rush, D backs who look like they've never played this game before etc etc.

Right now I'd expect Luck and Richardson to have a field day against us but u know what we've been in every game so far. We could be 3 & 0 or 0 & 3 swear to God. It's been a mad ride.

You are right though it'll be a decent Monday night match up that I'll have to wait 24 hrs to watch i.e. avoid internet etc the next day. Make sure to come back in here the week before/after.
