    I'd say that was hell!!

I had said over in the weekly thread that Calvin Pryor going down was a big loss to the defense. But I hadnt realized that it would turn out to be a massive game changer

Himself and Skrine this year are complete enforcers, even from Wk1 this season they've both come on very well, the amount of missed tackles and YAC conceded seems far far lower to the naked eye. That Skrine hit on Edelman in the first half was glorious.

This is the best we've looked at this point in a season in years gentlemen.

Must say really happy with how the team is playing and Bowles is such a breath of fresh air after the bluster of Ryan. Also the AFCS and AFCW don't look like they'll produce a wildcard at this stage which is a big plus.

A lot of them lads on the D need to take a hard look at themselves - The worst display I can remember from a Jets Defense.

Cromartie and Demario Davis are chancers - Not good enough.
Todd Bowles needs to step up next week with his schemes.

This has been a nightmare so far.

A bad defensive performance is one thing, but the injuries piling up are another.

Skrine, McDougall, Cromartie, Marshall, Fitz have all come off during the game.

Reports from the sidelines say the Jets are already making calls looking for a QB as it's a ligament injury for Fitz

If there's been one criticism of the D all year it's been the missed tackles consistently each week. Couple that with the raiders turning up and Fitz's thumb not and we were never on a good thing yesterday... The worst thing about the injury is that the next 3/4 games were crucial to get wins on the board before the tough run in.

Whole defense looked like sh!t until the 4th. I've seen this defense blow coverage and miss tackles, but I've never seen it that bad. They looked like high school players out there. Safety depth is a real issue too, Marcus Williams was horrendous when asked to step in for Pryor.

Horrendous stuff all around. Poor D play and stupid decisions all over the field. Looked like a bunch of kids out there and the missed tackles were actually laughable. Team looked ill prepared. Did they study the Raiders at all? On top of that all those injuries. Next 3 games are must wins but I'm not confident after last nights sh!t show.

I think some unnecessarily harsh assessments.

Travelling to Oakland has always been a traditionally poor fixture for us for obvious reasons. Add to that Fitz going down early in the game and Ivory being shutdown behind a depleted line and what we got is, imo, neither a surprise nor anything to be unduly annoyed by.

We didn't look like a great team before the season started, and I feel no entitlement for us to overcome a raft of key injuries. Fitz / Ivory / Decker / Mangold being hurt or out is massive for our offense.

There is a need to be patient now and cross the fingers really. If we do bring in Flynn and Mangold, Ivory and Decker continue to be bothered by ongoing issues then it's extremely unlikely that we'll have enough in the tank offensively to fire us to the playoffs.

Well for me the effort on D and the comical tackling was both surprising and annoying. The offensive play was as good as to be expected given the circumstances. Unfortunately Geno hasn't progressed and lacks understanding of some of the basics of the game. I doubt that he will improve at this stage.

Effort and tackling is precisely the kind of thing that drops off to some extent when you cross the country long distance. They've been excellent thus far this year so I'd choose to give them a pass on this one.

Geno is a busted flush but we're committed to keep him around for another season at least.

I'm crossing my fingers for next week.

it didnt just drop off though, it was non existent in the first half! Cro, Davis and Williams all need to be given protractors this week cause the angles they were taking were horrendous.

But theres two home games now against the Jags and Bills so hopefully they can get back to winning ways.

Sorry I don't buy the cross country excuse, not after the Jets went to London earlier this season and pretty much dominated the Dolphins, the long trip excuse just doesn't wash. I mean the D didn't make a stop until 5 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. No excuse for that stuff. Next 3 games are certainly winnable and hopefully the Raiders game was just one of those days.

Jets and Dolphins were both travelling from the same timezone a similar distance.

Doesn't matter now anyway, need a big performance this weekend.

Agree with the others - I was more annoyed on Sunday but the Tackling was atrocious, no excuses can justify the 2 TDs they gave up like that.
Thankfully no more west coast games this year - Hate them games.

Let's see the training report today but all indications are that Fitz could be ok to go this week, even if he's not, Geno will be fine to come in here.
The bigger worry is Brandon Marshall - He would be a massive loss.

Key to the Jags match is confusing Bortles into mistakes and getting Ivory to dominate with the running game again.

You can bet they will try to pick on Davis again with screens to Yeldon and we need to keep Allen Robinson quiet, Revis shouldn't have issues there.

Bowles says Fitz is good to go on Sunday anyway, no word on Marshall yet though. Him, Decker, Mangold, Colon and Pryor all sat out practice.

We could live without Decker and Colon but the other 3 are essential. Pryor (hopefully) and Skrine will need to bring back the big hits again against the Jags, we'll need to be far better than last week to take a win away from it.

Decker (rest day) and Marshall will play.
Mangold & Colon I think will also.
Pryor won't - Can't see him being back until the Texans game

I'd take that. It's a shame for Pryor though, the improvement on last year is phenomenal and the amount of pressure he brings is great. Hopefully Skrine can step up a bit in that respect. Was it Bailey/Williams that stepped in at the w/e for Pryor?

It was Williams and it turned out to be a complete disaster. I’d expect Bailey back in the starting line-up vs. Jacksonville

Bottom line is we're not a very good team. We're doing much better on the board thus far than I had expected before the season began but I'm not seeing another five wins for us on the remainder of the schedule unfortunately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,610 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Yeah poor stuff again. No run game for the third week in a row. And giving up huge passing plays is now routine. Only for those turnovers at the end the Jags would have won. We look like an 8-8 middle of the road team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,416 ✭✭✭FreeOSCAR

We need to sort out Chris Ivory - Get him back running properly again. We will only go as far as he takes us -
Hopefully Mangold and Colon are able to play on Thursday.

4 more wins should secure a Wildcard spot. I'm quietly confident.

Thursday is our biggest game in the past few years - Victory gives us a 2 game cushion on Buffalo with the H2H - A loss puts us level with them taking the H2H.
    They have
    @ Jets
    @ Patriots
    @ Chiefs

Definitely their toughest run on the Schedule.

Ah tbf to Ivory 2 linchpins of the OL were out and Fitz was thinking about his offloads too (probably didn't affect at all but maybe). The bills game is by far the most important of the year imo, get a win there and I reckon we make it by the skin of our teeth.

In terms of positives from yesterday, Fitz made it!, Marshall and Decker were great, Skrine made a couple of good plays, Mauldin and Williams stepped up nicely, Cumberland caught a pass (!!!), our red zone offense somehow continues to dominate.

Cromartie really was the biggest negative imo. he really needs to learn to play within his limitations.

The commentators were saying how Cro had been talking before the game about not biting on the fake and letting the WR get open down the sideline behind him, yet he did exactly that on the TD right before the half. I think he still has a role in the defense but Bowles needs to give the younger guys a shot at the cb2 position!
The back end of the secondary is going to be a real problem tomorrow night with both Pryor and Bailey out, so i assume it will be a mixture of Rontez Miles/Marcus Williams. I have a feeling the Bills are going go that direction of the field a lot!!
Speaking of injuries Nick Folk has been placed on IR:( and former Texan Randy Bullock has been brought in to replace him.
Mangold and Colon are both slated to start so hopefully Ivory's numbers will improve

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,643 ✭✭✭phatkev

Colon has just been placed on IR:( . Thats a massive loss for the OL, he really stepped his game up this year. the injuries just keep piling up, it seems like there hasn't been a player that hasn't featured on the injuring list at some point this season.

Ugh he's a surprisingly big loss. Won't help Ivory at all.

Have a bad feeling about tonight unfortunately.
