Anyone know when the access office staff are back, I am trying to contact one of the Disability Office Staff,Ina. But her number seems to be disconnected.

Ina is gone! Someone else in to replace her!

Hope someone can help me out!!

I got my letter saying my coarse will commence the 10th of September and saying i got a place on the coarse.

Now this morning i got a letter with my registration date saying its the 20th of September.

Does this mean the coarse will not start till after this date?

What course is it? My registration for an MA was later than my start date last year. I think if you're at all worried you should drop a mail to the secretary of whatever department you're going into. I think first year undergrads register the week of the 10th. Some courses might start that week too. I have stuff to submit on the 10th.

    ...

Damn, I have stuff to submit on the 10th

Nah, your course will start on whatever day you were told (so the 10th). Non-undergrad courses tend to have registration after the courses begin.

Lads/ladies, what's Electronic Engineering like? Thinking of picking it over Biology but not sure what it'll be like.

Tough. It's not a course for a lazy student. Of the final year EE students this year (there were about 12?) only two of them finished in four years. Everyone else repeated at least once.
It's time intensive - you're in every day, basically 9-5, with an early finish on Fridays. It will suck up every free hour of time.
It's a good course. It's varied, with a bunch of different modules on everything, and at least one business module every year. Labs last like, three hours or something?
The department are friendly and helpful, the six month work placement in third year is invaluable experience if you get a good placement.
Specialisation into specific degree programmes doesn't happen until fourth year.

But, speaking as the girlfriend of an engineering student and friend of a few more, don't expect to go into it and breeze through with no work.

Also, see if you can get Eric Cartman or Stevonicus or meabhl to reply. They're all students of the course, unlike me.

I'd say it would be a lot different to the actual electronic eng course as it's just a subject along with 3 others you're studying I assume? I don't think engineering has been offered in science before this year so it will be hard to get proper opinions on it. Best thing to do is go to the lectures in the first week for both it and biology and see which one you prefer :) First year bio looks pretty handy tbh. My friend did it for first year arts and she said it was pretty similar to the LC course but with a bit more detail.

Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you! This is the first year you can do engineering as a subject on its own, like Your Text Here (or Seren_, whatever ) said, so you're not going to be able to get proper opinions.

Probably it's a lot more relaxed in first year.
Go to the lectures and see how it goes. You have a few weeks to change your mind. :)

I've been told by lecturers in the past that I need to fork out a load of cash on books and read for a few hours every evening if I wanted to pass the year. This turned out to be bull.

So I'm wondering, how compulsory are "compulsory lectures"? It's not a case of me being lazy, I just have other serious commitments that I need to fulfill too.

Well it depends whether attendance is compulsory! Though it is always worth going

I did 2 years and left so dont take my word for it in its entirety, but Ill tell you what not to do to be successful at it.

As an engineer your going to be putting in atleast 35 hours a week, If all your friends are arts students theres going to have to be tough choices made, I went out every night and kept missing morning lectures and showing up hungover, didnt do me too well. 9am starts, coming in after the pub on a friday morning and being in college till 5-6 in the evening are all requirements of being an engineer.

I did engineering because I liked building things and working with my hands and electronics. Electronics engineering is not that, to be fair I should have done product design, as thats the closest you get to having fun while studying to go into the engineering field.

For engineering your going to have to like maths, your also going to have to like learning formulas and following lab instructions rigidly. Experimental physics is part of it and you definitely need to be good at taking measurements for that.

If you want to go to college and party hard and make stuff out of lego and build kites and learn some stuff about engineering - do product design

If you want to take your work really seriously and end up designing computer chips or space shuttle parts and only do a moderate amount of partying - do electronics engineering.

Any one have any advice on choices of modules for 3rd Philosophy in arts? I've been warned off Chinese philosophy reasoned that there are few resources compared to other choices, outside that I really have no idea what to go for, anyone been through it can offer their two cents?

Also modules for 3rd maths studies in arts? Im a bit lost with the modules in timetable and won't get to talk to anyone department untill next week sometime.

I'm coming back to a full college year after takin year out and repeating a few modules at time(and failing a few times). Bit lost altogether here, I'm right in thinking I've to take 30credits each semester?
