Yeah, but even then at 17 most people should know how to use a toilet.

Your moodle will be updated when records have registered your modules to your account. It takes a few days or it could be more.

I don't think that you're officially allowed but I threw up three anyway! :)

EDIT: I don't think that there's anything in the Campus Agreement or handbook so maybe we're ok this year. Will keep searching.

I met a first year the other day who isn't 18 till next August. Poor girl was not happy with the big red 'under 18' bit on her ID.

Why would any sane person start college at 17, it just ruins your life. You absolutely have to be 18 starting college or you'll end up with no fun friends at all.

That's pretty harsh. In fact it doesn't even make sense. I had a few friends who started college under 18. I know people who were 16. It never stopped them having any issues with friends?

What exactly is a fun friend? I take it the fact that they must be over 18 means an ability to drink because that cuts me and others that I know out?

Also, my cousin was just gone 17 when she started college, she is probably one of the most popular AND successful people that I know and she's only 23 now! Age isn't that big a deal.

You're probably right, I wasn't fully serious. But generally everyone that goes out 4 nights a week are in their groups by the end of the second week and its hard to get in with them then. Fun implied people that drink at least every Monday to Thursday. I think doing TY and waiting until you are 18 makes a big difference. Didn't mean to scare firsties.

Wow... If my friends had to go drinking 4 days a week to have fun, I don't think I'd be friends with them.

Just out of curiosity I wonder how many of those that you perceive to do this actually pass the year or drop out along the way....

Of the few people I know that are like this none AFAIK, a few are repeating first year, others passed the repeats, I don't know anyone that dropped out though.

Well then, maybe they're not the type of friends that people would want.

I know yeah, I always wished I'd have one really fun year in college though.

So are you implying then that people who repeat the year should have no friends....

    I'm joking :P

I've had four savage years (except for the whole mental breakdown part) without ever having to drink or needing friends who were permanently drunk. As far as I'm concerned I'm going to have a great year this year too.

fun /= drink and drink /= fun.

I love going out as much as the next person, but I know there are so many more ways to have fun and make friends than that.

I have no problem with clubbing. I've done it plenty (since I was 16!) and I have missed very few Roost Thursdays during my time in Maynooth but, as jubella said, there is more to having fun than just heading out. Some of the best craic I've had is random days with my friends while everyone is sober. You don't need to be 18 to do that.

I am not going to miss Maynooth for the pubs and nightclubs but for the people.

I think what you may be getting at is while alcohol isn't the bee all and end all to college life / socialising while in college it is unfortunately a large part of it or perceived to be as such and thus someone who's 17 and comes to college may feel like they're missing out, which may be true for some alcohol related events run by the SU such as the freshers ball etc. but overall they're really not. Theres so much more to college than going out getting locked every night and so much more fun things to do in life in general to socialise other than drinking.

I think in my time in Maynooth I went out less than 20 times, and I had a great time there, and I had a huge circle of friends.
