will try that when I go to work, just thinking it might be a firewall issue there, must check somewhere else

If the phone works it's not a firewall issue I'd be guessing. You arent trying to stream HD channels are you? Might be just timing out

I'm very tempted to get one of these boxes to replace my Sky+.

I have two satellite cables coming into the house. The cables are buried under the floor in our sitting room.

Can I split one to carry the terrestrial signal? Would this do the job? http://sat-planet.ie/uhf_sat_combiner

That's exactly what I have and it works perfectly, no problems at all.

    @Clareman

Im thinking of pulling the trigger on the Duo2. I have a Synology NAS for most of my media, do you know if any of the images have a suitable DLNA/UPNP type client, such as plex, that could connect to the NAS?

BTW, the config Im looking has a twin S2 tuner and 1 T tuner. With regard Saorview, is that enough to watch a Saorview channel whilst recording another Saorview channel?

    Ta.. :D

PS. Im assuming, once configured, these things are wife friendly?

With saorview you can record all the stations simultaneously from a single input!

    Clareman/All,

I received me new Ultimo today and switched to Blackhole. It was pretty straight forward.

My EPG is split between the Terrestrial and my two Satellite feeds. How do I put them all on one list e.g. RTE 1, RTE 2, TG3, TG4, UTV, BBC1, BBC2 etc?

I presume that EPG/Favourites are the answer but I can't find a way of adding a channel to my favourites.

    Thanks in advance,

    Benny

Pull the menu of the channel list up by hitting the up arrow, make sure the station you want to add to a fav list is highlighted. Press menu and add to service bouquet, pick the fav group done. To move it in that fav list, go to the fav list (blue) and pull up the list again and enable move mode. You can now move that up and down with the okay button and arrows. Same with terrestrial.

You should really just get Dreamset, you an edit it on your pc and ftp it to your box. It also downloads the latest sat stations and has categories. You can then edit your own etc.

I use a free program called "dreambox edit".
From your pc or laptop you can download the channel list from your vu ultimo, edit it and upload it again.

Thanks for the help STB and fguinan. I have the Favourites working now.

Will try Dreamset and "dreambox edit".

Can you recommend a skin and any other plugins/add ons. I read on this thread that Project Valerie is good. Must have a look for that.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 24,053 Mod ✭✭✭✭Clareman

Get Dreambox Edit for the channels, do a full scan on your box on all tuners, download the channels and then sort them out using that.

My EPG is not downloading. I configured CrossEPG to download at 4am. The DTT channels have EPG but the satellite channels don't. I selected the second Sky UK option only after reading a post by Clareman (one overwriting the other).

    Do you use something else?

Check only the first Sky option 28.2 - the second one on 28.4 doesnt really work.

The force a download by doing "Download Now" and if it works it will be ok when it runs overnight

Thanks again Slegs. That did it :-) The EPG is working now. I installed the Cool TV plugin. It's hard to read the text.

I am using a 10 year old Sony Trinitron TV. It's a flat screen CRT. The picture looks fine but the text in the menus is very hard to read. I played around with the contrast and brightness but it just looks like poor resolution. The Sky+ box on the same TV was perfect.

Any idea if it can be improved?

Have seen that myself on my brother's CRT TV. its a difficult one as these boxes are generally built for LCD/Plasma type screens as the on screen display menus are all HD quality..

There may be menu options to increase fonts but this will have knock on effects with other patrs of the screen

Thanks again Slegs. I had a look for some SD skins but the one I tried didn't make any difference. I can read most of the text. I'll be upgrading the TV at some stage.

    A couple of more questions.

Do you have to install Project Valerie manually? I can't see it in the available plugins.

I read earlier in the Thread that there is a series link feature for recording. Is it through Cool TV Guide? I can't see an option.

I personally would not bother with Project Valerie.

The inbuilt VIX media player that plays recordings will play all content in my experience.

You could map folders from a NAS drive or remote computer into your /hdd/movie folder so that you can access your movies when pressing the Recordings list. You can set this up through NFS or CIFS mounts via the fstab file in the /etc folder. It works really well.

For Series Link the equivalent in Enigma is Autotimer. If its not installed already just download the plugin from the plugins area it will be under extensions.

Usually then when in Cool TV guide or the regular Enigma EPG you press the Blue Autotimer button and follow the instructions from there. It works perfectly and is more flexible than series link in many ways (partial name matching, different channels etc. )

I'm trying to get a replacement remote control for my box, doesn't matter if it has the keyboard or not it just needs to be able to control the TV as well as the box itself, does anyone have any links? I have bought a standard OEM 1 off ebay before and that has a mute button where the normal on/off switch is.

All, any good bouquet editors? I flashed and lost everything due to a kernel update or something. Just like an easier way than adding manually!

Dreambox Edit is still the best and easiest, if you want to do it simply just do a scan on your box, then receive the files from your box and then create from there. Once you do that once you can just do a re-scan from time to time to update the new frequencies.

Not much activity her for a while!

I'm looking at picking one of these 2nd hand to replace my Vu+ Duo basically to get access to C and T tuners while still having a single Sat tuner for my dish. Are everyone's experiences good?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 596 ✭✭✭minterno

Hi,My first vu was the ultimo and while it is a nice receiver I found it a bit slow,no matter what I done I had the spinning vix logo a lot,i think the receiver is a bit under powered, still a nice receiver to have and the dtt tuner worked a treat,i still have the ultimo but have not used it since I got the solo2,theres no more waiting for things to load up and I got a cheab usb tuner to go with it,regards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 621 ✭✭✭Barack Obama

Interesting - the Ultimo is actually a step up from the Duo so you could imagine how many more spinning logo's I am facing! Hopefully I'll see an improvement with the Ultimo...
    http://vuplus.com/productUltimo.html

The Solo2 is a much bigger step up processor-wise but unfortunately it does not have modular tuners - you are stuck with the built-in ones. The Duo2 would be fantastic but I simply cannot justify the price tag!

I bought an Ultimo and I deeply regret it.

    I have three Duos.

The Ultimo developed a fault on the third tuner slot. The picture randomly pixellates, making it unwatchable. The problem is the slot, rather than the tuner. I swapped the tuners around, but the problem remains on slot three.

Vu support do not respond to any emails.

Is is still under warranty? Contact the vendor for a replacement??

Not any more. I bought it from a Spanish vendor in any case, so returning would have been a nightmare. I don't use the third slot any more - I use a USB DTT tuner as the third tuner now.

Just a quick question guys - with a single cable\terrestrial tuner, am I right in saying that with the tuner below you can watch live and record at the same time (or record 2 channels simultaneously) on the Ultimo? This seems a bit counter-intuitive tbh!!
