I was just around at a friends house, he has gotten a new Samsung Smart TV and was setting up Saorview for him on it, I was having no problem getting it tuned and the EPG for it, but I was getting green screens and pixilation (I thought of you :D), took ages to figure out what was happening. Turned out he had an old remote eye setup and there was 5v going through the cable, that was causing the problem, would you have anything like in your house? Maybe an old MMDS aeriel or something could be causing a pulse or something on the line.

Thanks a million for the offer of dropping round Clareman. However, I'm in Dublin, so it'd be a long trek....

The room where the Ultimo lives is the only room in the house with an aerial feed. All the other rooms are sat only. I don't have any magic eyes or anything in my system.

Following advice from the BH driver coder, I connected a USB DVB tuner.

I connected a Nova-T USB stick to the Ultimo which it picked up as tuner D.
It appears to be working perfectly.

    The configuration is as follows:

Signal from aerial is split via a Triax AB splitter.

Feed A goes into a 20dB attenuator (fully wound back) and into the Ultimo DVBT module.

Feed B goes into the Nova-T directly.

Nova-T reads SNR between 64% and 69%, AGC a constant 55%. Picture is perfect.

Ultimo tuner reads SNR 83% (attenuated), AGC wildly fluctuates between 3% and 96%. Occasional regular glitching.

The reason I attenuate the signal to the Ultimo tuner is because it seems to decrease the severity and frequency of the glitching. SNR was 99% without the attenuator.

    it's a complete media centre,

This is exactly what what I want form the VU (Duo or Ultimo), I want one central point to record to and stream from. The plan is to have all media (pics, home movies, recordings etc etc) on one device from where I can stream to multiple devices eg laptop, tablet, smart phone, other media players / smart TV etc etc.

I know the Ultimo will do the trick but I don't need the 3rd tuner (yet anyway) so I am thinking the Duo might be enough for the moment unless there is someone out there who thinks it won't?

    Any comment??

There's a better processor in the Ultimo I think, so the more devices that connect the better it'll be able to deal with it.

I would go for the new Solo2 rather than the Duo if you only need two tuners. It has twin tuners, more RAM and a much better processor. And it's not that much more expensive than a Duo.

If you want a cheaper option, and are interested in a second hand Duo PM me.

I know that the IMDB plugin is no longer working on VIX either - apparently there's an update that needs to be done by the plugin author.

Thanks for that. I did some searching last night and installed subtitle player does the same job and also uses the imdb data base. And as the name suggests it also downloads subs if needed.
    Sweet

or the VU Uno with Dual DVB-S2 tuners. A USB DVB-T stick can also be added.

Cheapest way of getting one of those at the moment is to get a V3 clone, and replace the single tuner with a genuine dual tuner, thus enabling the record one watch one scenario. Once you replace the cloned tuner you can use the latest images anyhow.

I am not only watching tv. Recording, downloading, watching youtube....:)
I know cheaper box will still do the same.

But take it from that point: you can drive Daewoo Kalos or, lets say WV Golf. Each of them will bring you from A to B, but impression is different

It's not just a satellite box though, it can do a lot more. Personally I use it for watching TV, watching "recordings", using as a baby monitor (CCTV Camera in baby's room) as well as a streaming device to allow me watch stuff on my phone/tablet while herself is watching other stuff. I also use it to watch TV when I'm travelling like a Slingbox.

If all you want to do is watch TV, then the Ultimo is too much for you, but if you want to use it as a hobby box then it's ideal.

Finally, I know this is just anecdotal, but because it's a top end box there is an awful lot of support for it and you don't have many problems with dodgy firmwares and there's a lot of new releases.

Hi Clareman, what cctv camera are you using?

I have a Duo and would like to set up baby monitor as you have.

I just got a generic Foscam clone camera from Amazon. For the plugin to use on your box just google "ip security camera control centre for enigma2". There's also a few apps you can use on your smartphone so you can connect to the camera using that as well.

This thread had me tempted. Have a DM800 presently, has anyone followed a similar route?

What about the apps and plugins? Are all available for VU+ ultimo?

    Hi,
    Any help please.
I loaded bouquets onto ultimo via dreamboxedit.
I drag & drop the bouquets into the order I want in dreamboxedit & then ftp to the ultimo. That works and I can then press zero on the ultimo from any channel in any bouquet and the box switches to RTE 1-as I want it to.
However every morning the bouquet list on the ultimo has reverted to default:confused:
with the result that BBC 1 South appears after pressing zero.
I then ftp from pc to ultimo and everything works as required....until the next morning and defaults have taken over again:mad:
Does any one have any idea on how to stop the bouquet list from reverting to default?
    btw using vix 3.0.629
    Thanks.

Do you have the Vix AutoBouquetsMaker scheduled to run overnight? That could cause your problem

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭kelsca

Thanks for reply, but I do not know if autobouquetmaker is set up ..or how to access it!

It does sound like ABM is set - I think it defaults at 1am daily, maybe wrong though.
Go to Menu/Setup/Service searching/AutoBouquetsMaker/Configure and make sure "Schedule scan" is set to no.

If it is already set to NO then the issue is elsewhere.

    ABM was set to Yes
    changed it to No.
    Bouquets did not change overnight.
    Problem solved.

Don't know if this has been posted already but the official vu+ app is on the Android Play store.
    Not sure about iTunes
Great user interface with full remote control.... Streaming....Timer edit...Signal meter and you can even send a message to the Tv screen if you need a cup of tea and the wife is watching her soaps. Brilliant.

Any particular flavor of the Vix firmware recommended? What are the benefits over black hole?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 24,053 Mod ✭✭✭✭Clareman

I have that app, setup post forwarding and Dynamic DNS with a nice fast upload speed and you'll be able to watch your box remotely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34 Aidan045

Oh what I wouldn't do even for a nice half decent upload speed.
Still I live in hope that fibre will reach Kildare eventually .

I've put on the latest Blackhole image today (2.0.3 I think), nice quick slick image, the inbuilt media player seems to have had refinements. I think my TV might be on the way out though cause I notice when I put the TV in 1080 I get a lot more flickering than I did on the old image, at 720 it's ok

After giving the Vix image a spin i dont really see any advantages over the BH image? Am I missing something?

I tried Vix in the past and I didn't like it, for some reason my TV came up a bit pink and it was a pain setting up the resolutions correctly, also Mrs. Clareman couldn't/didn't want to get get used to.

    all

currently using the vu+ app to stream to my phone. Have been trying to stream to a PC remotely but not having any luck. Have DDNS and ports forwarded correctly as the mobile app works but i'm missing something for vlc streaming on the pc. I usually go to the webinterface and current channel and open the m3u file with VLC but i get an error
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http://dnsaddress.dyndns.com:1234/1:0:19:F1C:7E4:2:11A0000:0:0:0:'. Check the log for details.

    any ideas what im missing?

Make sure the port, in your example 1234, is forwarded to the streaming port of your box, probably 8001, on your router.
