I must give it a proper chance. Last time it did an automatic scan, it misidentified practically all my files. Do i need to rename everything?

There should be no real need for renaming unless you are doing TV shows that aren't in an XBMC/Media player compatible format.
And for TV series I use a bulk file renamer this and then I add a valerie.info file to the folder containing the IMDB and TVDB identifiers, 99% of the time this sorts any sync issues I have.

I wrote a quick guide for TV series and movie setup that i copied below.
And if you have a question feel free to ask ;) If I can answer it for ya I will.

    Of Course ;)
1st off with TV series it helps if you make sure the filename format is in a HTPC or XBMC compatible format (i.e Series name 1x01 or Series Name S01E01)
I use Mediarenamer for quick and easy series renaming if the files need it.

Then specify a TV series folder in Project Valeries WebIF.
    WebIF>Options>Sync settings.
I have a folder specified for Movies and a folder specified for Series, it helps PVMC know what its looking for.
Then add each series in its own folder to the Series folder.

After you have this bit of initial set up done, its onto creating the valerie.info file.
This is just a notepad file saved under name Valerie.info(Changing the extension from .txt to .info)
In this file you can add the IMDB TT and the TVDB season id to force Valerie to try sync data add this data in the following format "tt0000000" "tvdb00000".
As a quick example, say for the series The Sopranos, I would open the Folder, Right click>New>create .txt Document. Rename the .TXT to valerie.info then open the valerie.info and add the following data "tvdb75299" "tt0141842" in that format, then close and save.
Repeat for any problematic TV series and then run a Full Sync and it should resolve the TV sync issues.

Hope thats some help mate, and any other questions ask away...
If I can help, I will.

P.S Just to add, TV series recorded direct from Sat, will need to be renamed!
As the Enigma2 naming convention isn't compatible with the PVMC database i.e 20120125 1209 - Sky Atlantic HD - Game of Thrones.ts should be renamed as Game of Thrones 1x01 or Game of Thrones S01E01

Forgot to add this, to allow .MPG and .MP4 to be seen by the project valerie interface you need to do the following ;)
Otherwise those filetypes won't show in the interface ;)
    banie01 wrote: »
Change paths to enable the correct media path settings for your box.
i.e for movies my path is hdd/movie and type selected as movie and TV series are hdd/series and type selected as TV.
To add mp4 and .mpg playback in Valerie you need to go to the WebIF via 192.168.x.xx:portnumber(assign port in PVMC settings)
Then click to options>syncsettings>add file type(at top of paths page)
Then its a case of just adding the extension to the list there with the ''|'' divider.
i.e to add .mpg and .mp4 just add |mpg|mp4 to the end of the file list.

As an quick example your filelist would then look like this ''mpg|ts|mkv|mp4|iso|avi|m2ts|ifo''
Remember to save each change too cos Valerie is finicky about multiple changes I find each setting needs to be changed and saved indivudually.

I didn't have to rename anything, just a quick scan and it picked up the series and episode for the shows.

    Hi,

I'm thinking of purchasing the new VU+Ultimo, I have read that it allows to record 8 channels simultaneously, is that correct?

Does anyone have a clue on how to programe this? The guy who suggested us this box, wants to charge us, just to get this box installed, and I'm wondering if I can do this myself, any help would be appreciated.

Also does anyone know where I can buy this at a good price, any idea on what the tentative pricing is.

    thanks
    L.

Bit of a long story here, so I do apologize if I waffle on a bit but I'm happy out with myself and my Ultimo has gone up another notch in my estimation.

I got my Ultimo with 3 tuners (2 Sat and 1 Terrestrial) but only have 2 cables going to it (2 satellite), this wasn't really an issue for me as I'm watching RTÉ directly through my TV, for the past couple of weeks the whole x24 October has been annoying me but I figured I'd get to it around the 23rd of October. This evening that I got 1 of these a year ago and that it was what was I was using for RTÉ through my TV, I took the cable out of the TV, into Ultimo, ran a scan, straight away it picked up 18 no channels and tidied them away under RTENL, so now I'm watching RTÉ 2 HD with no annoying button and also have a full 7 day EPG.

I know I'm not using my box for a fraction of what it can do, but by gawd I'm mightely impressed with what it can do, best use of bonus money ever :)

I am also new to the Ultimo box, but the interesting thing is the power and the potential of the linux box. It's all about learning something new all the time and adding its features. My latest is the Mytube plugin, great for watching youtube videos and also if the broadband is not fast for streaming you can download music videos to the Hard drive in minutes. The quality is good. I have set up a music video file collection and its great. The Ultimo is great for rainy days to play with. I tend to go learning for a couple of days and then take a break for a couple of weeks and come back to it.

The recording capacity is great. Never miss a programme. The electricity went out for one hour last night. The Ultimo restarted and recorded the later programmes. Where the old DVD recorder was not at the races at all, loss of power, all recorder timer was lost and I had to start again.:)

There are a load of Apps out there that aren't compatible with it officially but do work, if you have an iPad/iPhone have a look for Dreambox and most of those apps will work, there's alot of a free remote, but the Apps to be able to watch through you're devices or to watch what's recorded on it is great, especially if you're in bed and want to watch something.

Make sure you get Project Valerie, it's a great app for keeping a track on what you've watched and haven't, Mrs. Clareman likes to watch a full series of programs, used to take 5 minutes to check which 1 she'd seen last, the whole "Previously on xxx" spoilt a load of episodes for her in the past.

    @IrishBazza
I noticed on another post you got your vu+ultimo from- ielektronics.com.
    Any problems...?
    Would you still recommend them.
I plan on getting one in the near future and they seem to have the best price.
Also the the delivery charge calculator lists delivery as free.
    Is that correct.
I'd appreciate any info or help you can give.
    Cheers

ielektronics.com great service, delivered in 6 days and free postage. The deal I got from them was unreal compared to UK and German sites. The Ultimo is going from strength to strength. Would recommend the 2TB hard drive, on their site, it's very quiet.

I'm using the Black Hole imagine with Project Valerie installed for viewing media files and I haven't had any problems with anything. I have 3 tuners, 2 satellite and 1 terrestrial, the boxes slips between all 3 with no problems at all, in fact I'm flicking between RTÉ Saorview and the BBC Olympic channels constantly and there's no issues at all.

I've a 2TB installed as well, very handy for copying files across your network for watching anything your American cousins may have taped for you.

hi guys,i have been playing around with the box for a few days now and im finding it hard work,im aware of how good these recievers are but theyre not very intuitive,it took me ages to figure out how to get the motorised setting right but thats sorted now,i installed the latest version of vix and got the wifi working fine but could not download any plugins and i found a post on a forum that pointed that the plugin problem im having could indicate that the box could be a clone so i reinstalled the original image(latest one) to run that 'feel the love'plugin to see if mines a clone or not and im unable to set up the wifi now,in the network configuration/adapter settings and nameserver settings i must be doing something wrong, can anyone offer some advice or point out a sticky to me,,regards

does the VU+ Duo or Ultimo support MHEG-5 Engine/middleware?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 596 ✭✭✭minterno

hi i wouldn't be the resident expert so would not be certain but you do get the full epg with the ultimo on saorview, you would be better off asking your question in the vu+duo thread as its more active than the ultimo thread at the moment, regards

In a word, no, but there's always the possibility that someone, somewhere might program a plugin to do the job, but I haven't seen any evidence of it (yet..).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 sirglavcelot

    Hello
    Thanks for the feeb back. I received a message from VU+ Support this morning, here is their answer;

"Vu+ does not contain MHEG-5 engine at the moment. We will keep your opinion in mind for the future product."

It is a pitty as it would make the VU+ Duo, Duo2 and Ultimo perfect for most UK and Irish users. Without the MHEG-5 Engine there is no text or interactive services.

If you mean can it get Saorview, yes it can, just get the tuner card for it and it works a treat, I have 2 satellite tuners and 1 terresterial, can record almost anything I want and watch whatever I want and I get the full functionality of the saorview, I also have all the channels in the same bouquet (channel) lists and you can change seemlessly between them.

If you mean something else, I don't know

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 sirglavcelot

I mean the interactive services like saorview text which you need MHEG-4 Engine Middleware for and not a DVB-T or DVB-T2 tuner.

I just checked there, I have text on RTE alright, so I know that works, I don't know what else you want to know/look for, if you want me to check anything just let me know.

    My exact box is here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 sirglavcelot

I'd like to see a full screenshot of the text you've got through the VU+ Box as VU+ Support have confirmed they don't support MHEG-5 and RTE have confirmed you need it for Interactive Text. Does your text service look anything like this? http://www.saortv.info/about/mheg5/

The absence of MHEG5 is a very small item compared to the power of these boxes. The VU+ Duo and Ultimo are simply the best satellite receivers out there. The fact that the Ultimo can have a third tuner which can be sat or DVB-T makes it perfect.

Linux Enigma2 boxes are open source supported by vast developer communities.

    On Enigma2 boxes you can
    - get a full 7-8 day guide for satellite from either web listings or from satellite EPG feeds. Can be scheduled to work nightly via the CrossEPG plugin. Its near perfect at this stage
    - you can do series link type recording using the Enigma2 autotimer plugin. Much more powerful than any Sky/Freesat series link options.
    - you can configure how you want your user interface to look with skins. Some very advanced HD options
    - you can configure your EPG options and how you want it to look. There are some Sky type looking EPG options using Cool TV EPG
    - you can download icons for channels to make the interface very rich (i.e. when you change channel you get the logo for that channel)
    - you can watch one record many others depending on the MUX/Transponder (at least 2 others in Ultimo). I have recorded 5 channels simultaneously
    - you can stream to your PC from the built in web interface. Works flawlessly
    - you can put a drive of 2TB plus in the box to record much HD content
    - you can download the recordings to your PC and edit, compress, save publish to your heart's content ( no technical encryption restrictions )
    - you can download internet plugins for all sorts of features internet radio, youtube, picasa, soccer scores etc
    - you can setup shares to other folders on your home network. I have my NAS box mapped in to my recordings folder as a sub folder in read only so that the family can watch movies directly from the VU+ Duo
    - Our VU+ Duo is our main TV box for over 2 years now and we wouldn't go back to a non Enigma box

The VU+ Duo / Ultimo is the best value of the high end linux receivers. Much better value that the overpriced high end Dreamboxes.

Saorview approved boxes will have MHEG5 but they will be locked down proprietary boring units with none of the above

Do you still think MHEG5 is a big loss?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,044 ✭✭✭slegs

    Oh and my favourite feature...

You can set remote record options via iPhone or Android apps or the Web interface (once you you set up dyndns to access your box outside your home network). Some very cool free apps in Google Play or App Store for this.

That is what I thought Clareman. I'm going to investigate the MHEG-5 more on my free time and see if we can get it integrated into the VU+ Boxes, it's only a language after all so it can't be all that difficult.
