I applied for both but I'm just under number 300 on the merit list so could be a while.

Is that for the PCO role Ted??

I've applied for the PSNI folks, although I am once every 2 weeks phoning recruitment just to see what stage they're at, I was told recently for my own circumstances, that with my merit number and the role I will get a call when they can't say, thing also is that there will be others applying for the PSNI current serving prison officers and those like us on a list, and the girl did say they are aware and are preparing for shortfalls as such, I want the PSNI so bad, but this to me is just as good an opportunity so I'm hanging in there, will be ringing them again soon, anybody hears more info post and I will do the same :)

I'd assume so but I applied for that role too and I haven't got a call.... My partner heard this today and he's a PO I'm beginning to doubt this competition as I'm really high in order of merit and should have been going in the top 60 Ffs :(

Sorry to hear that Ted. I thought you would have been first in. Goes against everything I've been told by recruitment if that is the case.

I know tell me about going from the threads on this from last year they seemed to get "the call" quite quickly after their medical but that isn't the case with me or some others on here I really don't get it myself there is either jobs or their isn't Ffs

Did anyone notice that there's a recruitment company advertising for CASUAL COURT CUSTODY OFFICERS on indeed.com??!

I seen it too at the time and was thinking wtf as it seamed weird to advertise this after running a recruitment campaign, I was looking for it tonight to post the link but it has been removed. From memory it said something like our client the Northern Ireland prison service is looking to recruit court custody officers on a casual basis. Is it possible that they would be the ones about to go through their training as people on here that should be in the first 60 are still left in the dark about where they stand at the minute

I'm possibly having a thick moment but would I be right in thinking that if we have picked both positions and the PCO position ( which from what i gather is their priority and first to be selected and offered) is offered to those highest in the merit list then we would be stuck with it, and then those much further down the merit list have a better chance of getting the CO position?? Hard to put into words but say there are 100 PCO positions, the first 100 on the merit list would be selected if they picked PCO only or both. So then say, the next 100-150 on the merit list would be considered if they had picked CO or both positions??? So in effect if you are further down the merit list you are in for more of a chance of selected as CO?? Dunno about you guys but I'm confused.com lol

no- If you applied for both and you accept the PCO job you will still be offered the CO job at the time provided they reach your name on the list and you havent said you would like to withdraw from that application. So basically if your out of a job and get offered the pro, take it and wait for the co.

But what happens with those folks that just ticked for the CO role, and some of us are high up on the merit list lol

I think it's been explained before that those who have applied for both jobs and have had or are having medicals soon, pass them and are offered the role may turn it down in favour of the CO role and will then be placed back into the merit pool for the CO job and will have to wait til those roles come up but they will in no way be favoured over those who are better placed in the list who have only chose the CO role to apply for, does that make sense lol I didn't explain it very well.

    Hi all.
Passed my medical and got my Access NI checks back as well. Just waiting on my CTC Clearance now so fingers crossed all is ok with that!! Rang today just for an update and was told that they are still filling the 40 hr PCO posts (which I didn't apply for) at the minute and that as soon as they get onto the 35 hr and 20 hr posts they will be in touch. Basically she said the next stage will be an offer of employment so lets hope they don't take too long!! Have done all I can do now so no point stressing about it anymore!! I have applied for other things and am 3/4 of the way through a similar kind of selection process too so all this waiting is doing my head in!! Am considering applying for the PSNI too, just in case nothing ever comes of all this. Reading through some of the posts on here would make you wonder if there are actually any jobs and are we going to get a start at all???

Nadda, certainly on the CO front anyway, could be the new year before any CO's are put through Millisle, if there just filling the last places for the 40 hr PCO's still have 35 and 20 hr roles to fill, hopefully really soon lol, I still haven't got a date for a medical or anything lol
