See to be honest guys I have this fairly out of my head now, kinda gutted they're not recruiting CO's atm, but at least it's there for me when they do, but I'm proper focused with the psni now and maybe the whole prison service is a sign of things to come lol, but anyway good luck all and I'll post anything I hear within the following months, if I hear lol

When are the intakes due to start?

This needs more detail- when are the pco and co intakes due to start?
    Which is the better job?
What wage range are they offering for both?

I know. I misread your email first time and thought you were asking about the co position. To find they still don't know about the pco for which they are meant to be currently recruiting is just amazing!

I have a hol booked for Nov but was worried about the training starting. Highly unlikely it would seem. Hopefully PSNI recruitment starts soon and I can have two irons in the fire. I would never have applied for this if I knew how long and drawn out it was going to be.

Guys, as i see it. the early intakes will be for PCO roles with PECCS and would prob be beginning within next month. CPO will follow. The reason for uncertainty over Nos is probably that current PECCS guys have option of converting to CPO so they need to see how many do this...

Can someone tell me if they are going to be paying officers an environmental allowance? They aren't paying it to the officers recruited last year. Think it's a bit ridiculous considering the risks involved and I've seen other jobs advertised eg. Caseworker for the prisons, that salary is advertised as 'annual salary plus environmental allowance'. How could they NOT pay the actual prison officers this?!

I think that is under review as we speak bud, your right I do not know how this cannot be paid towards prison officers, and I think if things like pay and allowances are not addressed for prison officers etc the prison service is in serious trouble, as in people will leave especially now that the economy is slowly but surely picking up, as there is jobs out there, when a prison officer loses his life because of the job he does, they will have to review things as here is not like England Scotland or Wales unfortunately and pay will have to reflect the situation we're in, I have total admiration and respect for our prison officers, and I hope those that carry on the guard will enjoy the financial benefits at least, I know we're not in the same scenario as let's say the 70's or 80's but emergency service personnel are still being killed so we are far from out of the woods yet

Yes I emailed the other day. They are still recruiting for the pco first due to operational needs and once they receive authorisation to proceed with the co recruitment they will be in touch.

So no update really. Have you had your medical yet?

Hi just want to give you an update -

Right I was told my medical date would be in two weeks time .. The two weeks has been and gone and no word still !
Also speaking to previous ones from recruitment campaigns some rang up on a weekly basis just to keep making sure they weren't forgotten about because I do know a couple of people who ending up not getting a place it seems to be your merit number doesn't really mean Jack as ones with higher numbers had started training and a guy I know with a lower number in the 60's waited months and months and he swears to this day if he hadn't kept hounding them he wouldn't have got a start date.

Just my thoughts so to be on the safe side I'm going to be contacting them weekly from now on I don't care if they get sick of me I don't want to let this opportunity pass me by if I can help it !
Hope all you guys are well !!

I reckon quite a few people will have changed their minds about this job for now and may either have took up other jobs or gave up hope waiting. I'm wavering towards giving up hope waiting and if I find another job anytime soon ill be taking it. It's ridiculous being kept waiting like this, it could be months before we hear anything.

Governors were up in Garnerville doing training recently and from my good source was told current court service officers have transferred over to prison officers and obviously there recruiting to fill that void, but most definitely will be recruiting prison officers soon in fact there going to have to open a new campaign again because of natural wastage, the service is severely understaffed, anyone who was told to wait apparently will definitely get a call sooner than later, so something positive I wanted to post

Thanks for that info but I'm on the list for the PCO and CO and have heard nothing no medical date or anything and I heard from a very good source that Millisle is like a ghost town there is no one at it so there doesn't seem to be anything in the pipeline

Yeah, hopefully something will happen soon, a bit of movement as such, it's a waiting game, but it will eventually happen, it has to apparently

I'm actually just off the phone to recruitment, they said that merit numbers doesn't mean anything, and those that are offered medicals have said that they can't do that date offered is kinda bad, they said when it comes for me getting a medical try your best to stick to the offered date as a lot are not able to make the offered date and they said that there's a merit list of like 400 so they're not getting offered a second date, so good bit of info, it's just a waiting game, the fella on the recruitment line who was really helpful, said that they haven't been given orders to contact those for the CO role yet, but they will be and this should be before Christmas, as they need a lot of numbers for both roles really
