Flexi pipe? On a Fiat they're expensive, how much on a 156?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,783 ✭✭✭RidleyRider

Put my dad's car up on DoneDeal a few minutes ago. It's an Alfa Romeo 156 1.8 Twin Spark. NCT and Tax till next month, last NCT done less than 3000 miles ago. Exhaust flexi pipe gone and sunroof not working. Other than that 2 tires changed just before the NCT. He's had it for 7 years.

    450 Euro.

My dad got quoted 90 euro for a weld repair by a mechanic in Cashel, not sure how much would it cost to replace one.

Tool boxes...the way they do that or type in 13,700 for the mileage when its really 137,000 miles. Are these people tuned in at all?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,880 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Probably because you can't post 'POA' on donedeal AFAIK

It's over priced at a euro anyway!

I would rather judge the car by its condition, rather than the number plate. Still, any modifications to a car like this one, or any car, would put me off.

To be honest, those are very light mods and easily removed. If it checks out, it would be a very good buy. They are less of a boy racer car than you might think as their relative rarity meant they were always more expensive than Civics. Good ones now are probably appreciating slightly in value.

I know this car is owned by an enthusiast and has been in storage, hence the lack of tax and NCT. Not trying to endorse it or anything, just saying that it's worth doing some digging before rushing to a judgement.

Either you bought it yourself in the last few minutes or more likely somebody else must have I'm afraid. Looked clean enough though

Seems he's dealing in cars, googling the phone number shows 3 other car ads.
He says it's taxed but tax runs out this Friday, bargain :D
Still a good price if car is in good shape.

Sorry to ask this on thread but what are the Laguna 1.9td engines like?
There are a few floating around with fairly big mileage for handy money, but they might be more trouble than they're worth?!
Would normally stay away from French cars but afaik it's normally the electrics cause issues and the engines are strong enough..

I have a volvo v40 diesel with the same laguna engine, turbos give a lot of trouble especially if oil isnt changed often and with fully synthetic oil. Big mileage could be a time bomb.

So would a service history be a must?

The tax would make you sick but what a great way to get around. Tenner says its bought for near enough half the asking .....

Not a clue what these are like but I kinda like it, rare enough.

Plenty NCT and could surely be gotten for ~500. Perfect for some summer cruising with the roof off!

Lonng NCT, Timing belt done and if you fancy the risk of a K-Series engine, it's a nice looking 'vert.

I believe the MG TF was already posted a few days back. Seems to be a lot of car for the money on the face of it

Haven't seen one in ages but spotted a red one on DD the other night too. Retro cool at this stage. Be worth it for a laugh over the summer alright. A nice cheap Mazda MX3 would be in the same vein (ish, no targa), but no nice ones on DD recently...

Looks interesting, 1.7 (standard, not Racing) Puma with 12months NCT, 975yoyo, Limerick

Who was it had one of these (that everything went wrong on!)?
