And you've finally logged some bike time. We're all sooo proud!

Gotta love those commuting kms! :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

eh kind went mad there and popped in a bunch of columns to do a breakdown if you wish. It might make a good refernece for you at the end of the year when you compare against your season results and of course the logs you follow, what the nemesis is doing etc...

Lets see who the turbo king/queen will be
Who get in the OW first
Who would rather run on the treadie than HTFU and get out in the rain...
    Who does sneaky extra cardio...

Oh maybe I've opened a can of worms but these columns may provide some entertainment if nothing else.. If they are still empty in a week I'll assume its a bum idea and remove

Now you can get as geeky as you wish :D

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,364 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

There'd better not be points for the extra cardio. Some of us are single. :pac:

My inner nerd will like all these stats.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

The 'extra cardio' could be up for debate. walking is out, horizontal jogging out too, unless you clock up kms while doing it :D

I hate that I can't see whats going on till I get back to my computer. :) Am liking the new table though.

What is allowed in that section mcos? How is it measured, in time or kms? I've been doing some hill/mountain running/walking does that go in there or is it for stuff like my circuit training/spinning etc?

...and mdlb takes the lead in the challenge for 2012!

first and only time ill be on top of one of these things!!!

Its a Nokia and theyre not so hot for apps. Might have a look for it though.

Only one on Ovi is an offline version.

Basically anything cardio related where you (travel)clock up distance and is more effort that walking! What I was thinking was the likes of
    Kanoeing
    Rowing
    Climbing (vertical meters!)
    Ski cross

I remember Krusty Clown wore his garmin in a football game a long time ago!

So the hill running and spinng count.. but you would be entering those on your SBR stats anyway right?

Its very subjective I guess which is why its and optional extra. If someone feels like entering the 10k they put down from a round of golf so be it. You will be at the mercy of Griffin100 et al for doing so though :D

    I'm in for this too.

The more motivation to stick to the training plan the better as far as I'm concerned.
Table looks good and auto update a nice feature good work.

    Ahh.

I'd just assumed that everyone had an Android phone these days, with the odd freak on a fruity phone.

Been a while since I have used my Nokia for anything, although it was actually very good back in the day. I might see if I can power it up again at some point and figure out the best way of editing the spreadsheet.

Just a question on google docs.

If you use a spreadsheet like the one rom developed can you link your mileage totals in the SBR challenge to your total in the season spreadsheet?

That way it would automatcially update the challenge sheet with your data as you update your training logs.

I've looked at this spreadsheet (thanks rom) and I'm trying to work it as a template to allow the inclusion of swim and bike as drop down options on the exercise and then to open further options on the equipment form. Giving you a total per sport and a running total on road bike / TT / MTB etc as well as tracking mileage / km on running shoes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

Hey amphkingwest, not sure with google docs. O the challenge the row with your own name would essentially be 'your' as no one else is going to update your data for you (usually). So I think you could link the idividual cells to your season spreadsheet as applicable. Or have a summary row in your season spreadsheet that populates the data that the SBR needs. Then link the 2. This all makes sense in my head if I was working with excel but I'm span new to google docs and the SBR is as far as I've gone with it so far. Maybe rom can offer a solution?

I thought only IT nerds used Androids so as not to be part of the Apple system, in the same way they have Linux so as not be part of the Windows mass?

It's ok I've worked it out. it's your position in each of the three disciplines added together. So a perfect score would be 3 and the worse score (based on 26 people) would be 78.

Once the gold and green placings start being hit, the placings change a bit though I think. That's when it gets complicated.

Damn you MCOS and BTH. Damn you both.

5 hour turbo session tonight now. I'll show yee. :(

    Happy New Year folks

As per the evolution of the 1000mile challenge, the SBR is moving to googledocs this year. It basically tidies it all up and makes life easier for everyone. Just click the link below and away you go! Just enter your boardsie name, distance you plan to aim for and then from there each time you visit, just update your numbers. You don't have to edit rank, colours, totals etc as the table will do most of that automatically (I hope!). We can then use this thread for anything else related to the challenge. Like the Oryx vs RC battle, JB type graphs, BTH's celebrations and updates when I get a spare time :)

Of course let me know if there is a malfunction or someone decides to graffitti the thing, the link is open to anyone who clicks on it so this should be less hassle than the old tables....

    Green Benchmarks
    Swim 100k, Bike 2,000k, Run 1,000k
    Gold benchmarks
    Swim 200k, Bike 4,000k, Run 2,000k

    The Link to the table
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsrmH9XuOR17dHBvNG5QZEZ4OUF0cGxGWVZyNkYxamc

    Let the fun begin :D
(I know JB is buckling at the knees under the weight of the numbers he has to upload already )

    Thanks Mike - looks good!

How are you calculating the turbo distances? Are you using rollers or speedo connected to the rear wheel?

It's ok I've worked it out. it's your position in each of the three disciplines added together. So a perfect score would be 3 and the worse score (based on 26 people) would be 78.

Thats exactly it couerdelion. However, as RC pointed out the primary focus is on the Green and Gold targets so they weigh more than the points.

Basically the challenge is ranked in order of the following

    1. How many targets you have achieved
    2. What colour the targets are
    3. How few points you have

So, the first person to hit a green target will jump to the top of the ranking regardless of what points they have. If 2 people have 1 green each the person with fewest points is ahead.

I've attached the final table for 2011 below to illustrate how it panned out.

Both cunavalos and interested were the early leaders in the year being the first (as usual) to hit the green mark in the bike and swm respectively. It generally works out in favour of who scores best across the 3 disciplines. So having a runaway lead in one section will most definitely not win the challenge unless you have a good position in the other 2.

Gold trumps Green obviously. As you can see below however Macrani, Oryx, RedB and NT all finished ahead of interested who had 2 Golds? The reason is because they all had 3 greens and thus had more targets than interested. If interested had hit the run green it would have jumped him a whopping 9 places!

So best way to approach it is aim for 3 greens to begin with :)

    Hope this helps

If you want a lesson in the SBR challenge, I think you only have to look at Catweazle's masterclass in managing his SBR metrics over the year - 3 golds in the nick of time!

Lol and not one red cent more :D

I found the swimming and cycling manageable enough and had enough done up to Swinford to hobble over the line - but the run gold is very difficult, without the commitment to DCM I wouldn't have got near it!

I will admit I am a bit sheepish looking at Gibbos and Bambattas overall totals under me ;)

Wait wait... does commuting count for the bike? Because if so... oh man I've got that locked up. 17k each way every day adds up! Feels like it'd be cheating though.

I didnt count commuting last year. Suppose its still time on the bike though.

Depends how you treat said commute. I'd log a certain amount of commuting kms. Lots of people would treat their commute as a training session. I used to throw an extra 15 - 20k onto my cycle home from work so I could log it. :pac:

If I was running to and from work I'd be commuting and I'd log them as training miles.

I'll join the challenge this year.
I'm training for a marathon at the moment, so it'll probably be only running miles I log for then next month or so. Not sure when or where my first tri of the year will be, but it'll happen at some stage, and I'll fill in the distance column when it does.

Kudos to MCOS for organising this again.
