Looks that passage from "The Dead" - it's snowing all over Ireland!

Its been bucketing down rain here in Limerick City since about 9pm or so but little if any evidence of wind.

Like Joe's Girls, I'd be happy if it stayed the way it is.

Hopefully everyone will stay safe tonight and tomorrow.

Fire lit too, sitting back & waiting.:)

Really miss an open fire. Would top off the night beautifully with the lights off and the curtains open, listening to the wind and rain :)

Getting quite windy now in Cork.
I would have thought the peak for Southern areas was around midnight Matty not 4/5am ?

Hats off to you if it does get stormy, cause I just dont see it

just watching the pressure on my weather station, its 980.5 now too...
Can that be right, i mean that is close to what Maq is saying bouy M6 is at?

Still have been watching it drop as the day goes on, so ????

The station console is reading lower than Cumulus? more puzzlement.

Ah! I can hear the first tip tapping of the rain upon the window!

There is little wind now but the pressure has dropped from 1003 to 998.5 in the past 90 minutes.

    ...make that 998.3 already! (22.42)

    ...now 998.0 (22.44)

Are we talking knots? If so then Roches Point is in error

For what its worth the 18Z NMM downgrades max gusts by about 5mph. Not much point looking at models from now on.

Check the connection & reboot the laptop Cat - happens occasionally. pM me if that doesn't work

Satellite imagery has changed dramatically past two hours to reveal the circular core (on infra-red) of developing strong circulation about 54N 16W. Relatively modest wind speeds at M6 partly due to close proximity to core, watch for winds to increase there even as the centre pulls away. Low wind speeds at M4 are due to inversion of warm front not yet through that position. This protected surface layer, which is also evident across most of Ireland at 22z, will be blasted away by deepening of storm and won't be a feature in 3-4 hours further east.

Expect dramatic increases in wind and with the cyclone on course for a fairly close approach to Donegal, parts of Connacht likely to get into the rapidly developing storm force wind circulation, but Donegal is likely to see a very sudden increase in wind speeds due to combined intensification and passage of occlusion. Don't be fooled by benign feel of pre-trough weather, the surface will be shielded for an hour or two longer before everything breaks down.

Put the coffee on and if you can, stay up with us and report, and please make sure your location is in the report (it helps me in particular if you mention a county if you live in a smaller town, although I do look them up when necessary).

Feel very certain that this will become an intense windstorm around 0100-0400 in many parts, and that may continue many hours in Ulster as the low crawls past deepening as it goes.

It is perfectly plausible for Roches point to have a higher gust than Cork airport. Afterall they are about 15 miles apart and Roches point hangs over a cliff!
