They let him up and he ended up smashing his head off the roof..

It's sad to see not one member of the public stepped in to help the members.

It also never fails to amuse me that some gob****e loves to pass comment when it's safe to say the driver of that car could have easily killed a mother and child walking by that wall or anyone else.

Well done that member hope he gets a better fitting vest

It was very long wasn't it...see the tumbleweed going down the road fast than control would answer back on the radio, 4 urgent assistance calls in area with reasonable amount of cover still could only get one car even with change of channel to LH wide (as seen when he changed it on the banners radio)

This should be showing to all thinking of applying at the next intake!!

Disgraceful no member of public would even offer to assist

well in all fairness i'd say if anyone tried helping they would have been told to get lost. That Ban garda kept telling everyone to move away so I suppose that would put people off stepping in.

Did they even get any response from the radio? If any of them officers had been assaulted they would have been waiting a long time for help:rolleyes:.

2 brand new cars :o That Nissan juke doesn't look to badly damaged:) I think that's 3 new garda cars i'v seen badly crashed in the last 3 weeks. The 170 car won't last long :o

In the struggling arrest video why did he (or she) not pepper-spray the prisoner and then handcuff him? That would seem logical to me.

I think it was a bad move letting him up from between the car and wall.

Proximity I'd say. And it's tough trying to control somebody who doesn't want to be controlled. Unless you are in a situation like that you can't say why something was or wasn't done.

Surprised this has not been mentioned yet, but surely the lack of physical strength of the ban garda is also an issue here? That male garda had a real struggle keeping on top of that driver without that much help from his partner.

Surely two males would be able to arrest the driver easier. I can't imagine it is normal to call on back-up to arrest one skinny scumbag. Maybe he was carrying some type of weapon..

    What are you getting at?
Relieve all female members from patrol duty or what?

The tight position the Garda and the S/O were would appear to be the cause of only one Garda being able to pin him as opposed to two. Also having a somewhat hostile crowd around them it is better for one Garda to be watching them too in case they are attacked from behind. Notice the female Garda constantly watching their backs.

Tbh it is not as easy as you might think to subdue one person properly. A skinny person can be more wiry and can take 2,3 or 4 Gardai to properly restrain them.

I was in Drogheda as a student Garda and it took 2 of us and 3 bouncers to restrain a well built and very strong man one night and believe me I'm not a small fella.

Overall the situation on the video was a difficult one. Too tight a space to use pepper spray because it could incapacitate the Garda too. If the S/O was on cocaine the spray would have little or no effect.

    Very good advice.

Other comments regarding the female Garda's strength are correct however there are plenty of small male Garda too who would not have been able to deal with it.

Once again this clip should be shown to anybody who wants to join the force.

You could have four well built Gardaí and they'd still have difficulty restraining somebody who does not want to comply. Pointless making comments about somebodys lack of strength when we don't know the full circumstances of the incident.

Depends what you want it for. Doesn't appear to have great storage, but it'd get you from A to B in a timely fashion.

I presume it'll mostly be used in a community relations capacity though.

Indeed. No storage space for the obligatory garda cap.

I think it's going to be a more of an attention grabbing thing to raise bike safety awareness, a bit like the liveried(spelling ?) tractor to raise farm safety awareness!

That PSNI bike does look awesome all right but yeah space would be a killer , no ticket book, Tea Flask, Goldies Hat, Traffic Direction sticks.

03D silver Mondeo ST near Thurles on Sunday 'escorting' a cycle run - had red/white strobes front/rear and 'clear' slimline roof bar that lit up amber.
Grand once he doesn't get the idea that other road users HAVE TO pull over for him
