Just so you know, that refers to the force of the wind, not the actual 'storm'.

Of course i know it's a reference to storm force winds,i was just merely highlighting to the ME bashers that the hazard is not being overlooked.

Impressive, thats about 10 knots higher than what the models were showing as max gusts for tonight there.

Something to consider when we look at the models for Thursdays storm.

Impressive gust alright. Maybe something to consider for Thursday's storm on how the models are handling the current setup, but I wouldn't look into it too much at all, gusts can be very random in every way, including location and intensity of course.

I might as well stay up for the 00z GFS at this stage ;)

Tracking slightly further south on the 0Z.

Stronger gusts for Donegal/NI on this run.

It's looking tighter, more to the south and slightly more intense to me on the 00z GFS run

Tracking slightly further south on the 0Z.

    impressive- if this chart verifies

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

    Back to Thursdays storm.

0Z NMM shows 75mph gusts for the northwest coast and of course stronger winds about to slam into Scotland @ 36 hours.

    impressive- if this chart verifies

Yeah if. GFS not reliable with lows at that timeframe but it's possible...

    Steve Murr on NW:
One of the most outrageous GFS runs that I have ever seen...
    then Ireland gets wiped out

    :P

Anyway, whatever happens with that, Thursday will be really interesting to watch. Finally - some really interesting weather!

Tomorrows storm hasn't heightened in risk but is still very severe.

    Here is the latest NAE

    11120815_0700.gif

At present, gusts to 70knots along the north and northeast coast.

    Widely gusts of 50-60 knots

Southwestern Scotland will see the worst with gusts to 80 knots.

And this could be upgraded if the storm was to push further south.

    So for Ireland in km/hr

    Widespread gusts 90-110 km/hr

Gusts up to 140 km/hr in the north coast and northeast

I don't post much but I have to say I'm tingling with excitement. I'm in a new job with a massive window next to me and so far all I've been able to see out of it is grey skies and pissing rain.

yep I tend to lurk these days and just enter the forecast competitions (which I suck at btw) but I may come back out of my shell if the forecasts prove correct.

I'm in an office with a tin roof, under the flight path up at the airport so if you don't hear from me in the next few days - tell my family I love them....:D

The back end of it looks stronger on this run

    Worrying chart for Northeastern Ireland.

    These are likely gust values.

So gusts to 75 knots in northeastern NI.

    Widespread 60-70 knots

    FYI
    75knts = 139km/h

    Now that's a daddy of a breeze !

 looking at weatherchecks chart there, it looks like us up in the hills of north east meath are going to get a battering tomorrow, or am i reading it wrong

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

The 06Z GFS makes the storm more severe.

    5fjc5k.jpg

88-92mph gust area almost touching Irish coast there. You could add another 5-10mph to that for highest gusts IMHO.
    Scotland getting hammered once again.

The winds won't be too severe in the south will they?

North/northwest will be where the severe wind potential will be.
