wind has really got up now.

I expect there will be some active weather later today and this thread should probably be renamed to continue discussion, or have yet another thread. Squall line around five to seven p.m. across the north and central counties would be the basic concern.

Wind has picked up greatly here in West Wicklow.

Squall line developing off the west coast

Strange.....can't get the image to display, it works fine in the preview window.

Yep, squall line or at least a boisterous front is developing around Galway and Clare, should race northeast to reach the east coast around 9-10 p.m.

Ugh! hideous out there right now, nasty gusting winds combined with squally showers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,516 ✭✭✭irish1967

Sitting here waiting for this squawl line to hit.

Edit. Though just checked above radar image and it's not this far north. Raintoday shows it stretching further north. Ah well ... Normal night ahead then.

Serious drop in pressure in the last couple of hours:eek: Drop of 15hpa:confused:

Mean wind speeds are dropping rapidly on the west coast but gusts are still very strong which suggests very squally conditions. Belmullet for example reporting just 14kt mean speed but a gust of 54kts whilst 28kts at Mace Head and gust of 55kts

    http://www.met.ie/latest/reports.asp

Wind seems to be dropping off here inland west.

Winds suddenly gusting up to 50mph here in Tuam, NE Galway. Mean 10 min windspeed just 8mph!! but will no doubt rise in the next few mins.

Edit: Yep, has jumped to 20mph mean. That has to be a station record!!

Edit: Wind has dropped with just the odd strong gust now. Raining but nothing too severe.

No let up in the wind in Cork. Pressure drop of 14hPa in the last 12 hours.
