I think euthanasia should be introduced in Ireland.

I think it's cruel and selfish to force people to suffer a possibly very painful/un dignified death.

My unpopular idea for the day is anyone who supports abortion should themselves be "aborted" just so they get a good feel of what is involved.

    ...wow.

We can abort grown adults with opinions now?

The stupidity of that post nearly blew my hair back.

You could be on to something there - youre talking about the one who wears the tin foil dresses and stuff right?

I think so, you know the one with the glassy eyes, slurred speech and merry smirk?

People laugh at me, but I know drunk- she's drunk.

Whilst his post is stupid there is a very important taboo moral issue at the heart of it. Some children are forced to live horrible lives mainly because their parents did not want them or can't look after them. Some people are not fit to be parents and should not have kids.

I absolutely agree with you there, some children are neglected or abused by their parents and forced to endure horrible conditions

However the fool ignores all that and specifies

There's a lot of snobby people who have a rotten attitude towards their fellow citizens, they put making money ahead of all else. We don't need people like this having kids, that would mean people like the bankers that ruined this state and people like that wouldn't be able to have kids.

Child abusers? Drug addicts? No, we have to stop the snobby people having children!

I wonder how unpopular that opinion would be, though.

I think if there was a vote euthenasia would be passed. Making someone endure all that pain and suffering and keeping them going on life support machines with no chance of them getting off it is ridiculous and a waste of time tbf.

I don't think I would regard choosing to die in a deteriorated state an "undignified" death

So, a way to make straight people who support gay rights more involved is to call them "Queer". That's distinctly odd.
"And that's another thing: I resent you people using that word! That's our word for making fun of YOU! We need it!" - H. Simpson on the term "queer".

I agree whole-heartedly. People should have a choice. And those who want to help end a loved ones suffering should not be condemned either. It is an act of love, plain and simple. If I ever find myself in a situation where my health has deteriorated so much that I have zero quality of life I hope someone will love me enough.

I think it's probably more unpopular to oppose euthanasia.

I'm uncomfortable about it. I'm not normally a fan of 'slippery slope' arguments, but I think legalised euthanasia would inevitably result in the availability of less funding for palliative care.

Of course, I agree with you there - if it's what you choose then of course you wouldn't consider it undignified. It's more having the choice to forego suffering that I'm concerned about. :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 120 ✭✭Teacher23

Oh and I forgot to mention - I wouldn't consider it undignified for anyone else to choose to die in a deteriorated state either, in fact I'd think they're pretty brave. I just think I would hate to have to suffer through it.

I never got the whole Oasis Blur rivalry, I always found both bands rather dull and overrated.

If I was world dictator I would eradicate the tobacco plant from the planet and render it extinct, that's how much I hate smoking.

I think Ireland should become a socialist (real socialism) country.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 624 ✭✭✭Laois6556

I think if enough people really hated someone then they should be killed. So there's a rating system and if you reach 1,000,000 people hating you then you have to die. Obviously if Jimmy Saville was alive he'd get a bad rating, Hitler probably would too, others like Cromwell, Pot, Stalin, Bono, Saddam would be popular with voters also.

I believe in God. I want Ireland out of EU. Sinn Fein need to be running the country with anyone else barr ff fg lab greens. Now how does this work. If you agree my opinions are unpopular do people thank my post or they thank my post because they think like me? Or probably not thank my post at all which I really don't mind :p

    1) Praying is just talking to yourself (But some people seem to feel better after it psychologically I think)

    2) Water Charges Make Sense (Country people have had to pay for years and people take water for granted and waste it.)

    3) People who commit suicide are cowards (It annoys me when people say this is brave)

    4) Being Gay is a trendy disability (To clarify disability - similar to a neurological disability surely it has something to do with the brain? - as it is supposedly caused by a chemical imbalance. Why trendy? because it is accepted and fashionable!)

    5) Democracy does not always work well for a country - example Iraq was controlled much better when it was dictatorship. I think things can be done far more efficiently in a dictatorship and it cuts away a lot of the bureaucracy.

    6) The Death Penalty should be re-introduced in Ireland

I am not sure I will get too many thanks! but these are some of my unpopular opinions!

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Totally agree with the eu thing. Ireland needs to maintain ties with Britain but not Europe. From my experience it doesn't seem to be an unpopular opinion.

I don't think social welfare recipients should be allowed to turn down a job because they are better off in social welfare. I also think child benefit should be given in certificates for children's things. Clothes, toys, food, etc. everybody gets it so there's no shame or embarrassment about using them either which is usually the argument I hear.

I think public sector workers should have their pay made reflective of their experience and qualifications and if you have none you should be put on minimum wage. And junior ministers and the Seanad should be volunteers!

Absolutely. Water is an expensive commodity that needs to be paid for, and what better way to charge people for it than relate it to consumption.

However, of the people who are against it, the majority are opposed to it simply because we're already paying for it due to higher income tax so, in effect, we'll be paying for it twice if the income tax rates remain the same.

But yes, I don't think anyone can really argue against the logic of water metering and water charges as long as they're implemented properly.

Travellers should have to pay a caravan tax every year based on size and mod cons.
