Some git stole my photos and put them on the rte website under their name!!

Jaysus, I thought they had actually gone through you for them.

The new ones I just posted have been sent in under "David Connolly" again. That didn't take him long! Angry emails have been sent.

Ok, apologies to Mr. Connolly, who sent me a pm this morning to explain that he had forwarded the link to my pics to rte but had then emailed them to say the photos weren't his straight after they posted them. I didn't see the pm as I'm on my phone. I think rte may have just picked up the latest pic themselves...

anyway, how's Dublin doing today, anybody know? I'm southside now and the sun is shining.

The massive lake that was formed on Willbrook Road in Rathfarnham disappeared overnight. No problems getting buses this morning. Was going to go shopping in Dundrum later on but that's not going to happen now.

Yup sorry that was me! Sent them in and said they weren't mine were just someone that lived there as well but they took my name straight off the name on my email account because I didn't even sign it from me....

Christ, all I did was advise people to take care and not travel unnecessarily. If you don't like the advice then don't take it and do whatever you want.

What a pointless thing to pick an argument about.

Pointless advice...you haven't even stated where you're talking about..Large parts of the country were unaffected by the rain and the floods have subsided today.

What is the basis for this ridiculous advice and caution? Are you basing this on logic?

Some pics from the Dropping Well pub to Milltown, taken this morning. Nobody was in the car that was washed away thankfully.

"That scaffolding was only put up last month as part of the flood defense works they've been working on for the last six weeks. Very bad timing but it wasn't just abandoned there. "

    ...hmmm

Imagine putting up a scaffold blocking a key bridge for a major river that flows through a major urban area at a section when the river meets the tidal stream just before the Storm season ie Autumn.

And then a resident defends the incompetence!

Only in Ireland. ah sure it will do. No wonder this country is a mess.

I wasn't defending them. I was merely correcting your assertion that they had erected the scaffolding during the summer and neglected to remove it.

I agree that it is a ridiculous time of year to start flood works. Not only was it a danger due to floods but they picked the most inconvenient date of sept 1st to start this work and block off access to the Marian school on the same day that the students went back after the holidays.

The section of the riverbank from that bridge down to Newbridge Avenue is probably at it's most vulnerable as they have cut back a lot of the trees/bushes to do the work, leaving a lot of loose soil. Which is probably what is spread over the car park outside here...

Very serious rain all right - and not just "a bit" of rain, which will no doubt be the cat-call when the blame games start. Unprecedented severity which we're not used to, hence not being set up for it. Ditto the snow of the last two winters.

When reports and studies are paid for and then ignored I think it'd fair to criticise those in power. With the rain that fell there was bound to be some level of flooding last night, but as usual reports will be funded, show shortcomings and be ignored.

The Dodder in Templeogue last night and today. The pictures don't really do justice to the scale of the damage. On the plus side my dogs enjoyed their walks as they found and ate some fish on the green.

This one was a while after the height of the flooding. The tree that can be seen in the middle of the water normally stands on a slope just above the river edge.

The footpath along the river is pretty much gone between Riverside Cottages and Springfield Rd.

    More general mess and destruction.

    This green was clear yesterday, now it has a long line of rubble leading to what was a quiet, sheltered cove. But is now;

All the rubble was brought in by the flood. It was just trees and soil.

If you look at the slope in the picture you can see a line of leaves which show how high the water was last night.

Just watching the news there and I notice a lot of amateur footage of the floods. Would RTE pay the people who's footage they're using?

Dundrum is opening tomorrow, I am amazed at that, surely they would have to do a structure and electrical health and safety test. Its good news as I am sure the centre is a big employer.

Remember the floods when your first property/poll tax bill arrives folks.
Cos that money will not be used to shore up any water defenses.

I'd assume they'd have to, although not too much when you look at Pat Kenny's wage bill.

    Glazers Out!

Here's the scaffolding at the bridge under the Dart line on the Dodder - which might have contributed to the high flooding in the Sweepstakes. This was taken at about half two today and you can see it's still blocked with leaves, branches and rubbish.

I wouldn't call what Magic Seán posted as scaremongering or hysterical. Nowhere has it been mentioned that we need to stock up for months, raid shop shelves, stay in your basement. That's all empty rhetoric.

The bottom line : a man died trying to help people in floods, that's one man too many. I think it's better to be on the safe side than stretch an already over stretched emergency service.

But that happened last night in Wicklow?

    How is that relevant today?

Have you actually thought about this in a practical sense, i.e. vast majority of Dublin roads are fine...
Well I'm pretty sure it's still relevant to ciaran jones family this morning
