But would it really be worthwhile seeing a bunch of old guys only playing for the money? And also considering that none of them have been involved on a good album since Appetite for Destruction.

Velvet Revolvers first album was a belter tbf.

I liked the Ju Ju Hounds album too.

So to tie it into GN'R, should Axl have done the same with Chinese Democracy and instead put out another album without the baggage that would eventually come with Chinese Democracy

I think axl was under pressure from the record company to get something out. They'd given him a huge record deal and years of dithering from axl meant they were getting no return on their investment.

Far from it. I thought it was okay when I picked it up in 2004 and had a couple of good songs on it. But now I see it as a very derivative, commercialised hard-rock album that was behind its time. I really don't think it had a place in 2004, maybe in the 90's it could have.

I thought contraband was a better album then libertad personally. But back to GNR I don't remember the last time I listened to the use your illusions in any detail but I'm glad they released the thirty songs as we have more to listen to.

Completely agree. I didn't think Libertad was up to much. A lot of it sounded like the leftovers of Contraband to be honest.

I've listened to a bit more of CD lately and I've begun to like it a lot more. There's still plenty of filler on it, but Axl's voice still sounds great in my opinion. I read recently that his vocal range covers five octaves. Five!!

I thought "Contraband" was a good classic rock album but "Libertad" was the sound of the band comfortable in their shoes. The production was more experimental and the lyrics more personal. It took a good few listens to hook me but it's definitely my favourite of the two.

I really like "Chinese Democracy". I wish they had promoted it a bit more (music videos, interviews etc.) but I don't think the record company was gonna spend much more money on it. They made a video for "Better" that I only came across online a couple months ago.

Velvet Revolver were average at best. Saw them twice live and they were amazing shows - but the songs themselves were a bit lazy. IMO, the sum of their parts was less than the individuals - like Audioslave.

Nothing will equal Appetite for me and the original 5.

Matt Sorum is a delusional drummer as far as his ability goes - he really thinks he's amazing, but apart from impeccable timing, he was so boring. He literally plays the same fill all the time:
    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2i3g6k_matt-sorum-same-fills-in-every-song_music

Then compare him to Adler, who has some of the most memorable (but not technically difficult - which is irrelevant) drum parts ever. The intro to Paradise City alone is one of the most simple, but memorable, drum beats of all time.

Slash has confirmed in an interview with Swedish TV that he and Axl are on good terms again.

    Transcript:

I've heard that you made friends with Axl Rose again. How was that possible after all those years?

Slash: It was probably way over due, you know, but it's very cool at this point. Let some of that... dispel some of that negative stuff that was going on for so long.

Slash and axl are friends again ? I must have missed the news where it was reported that hell had frozen over.

But seriously I'm happy that if nothing else they are on good terms again and can put stuff behind them.

    Donington Monsters of Rock

Helloween, Megadeth, Guns'n'Roses, Dave Lee Roth, Kiss & Iron Maiden

Was a fcuked up day, when they booked GnR in the feb they were a good third on the bill act, by the time the festival came round they were huge, could have headlined.
Maidens first ever appearance at Donington which was a HUGE thing
In an interview with Maurice Jones, the promotor, the year before he said capacity was 72,500, they could possibly take a few more but were limited by their own common sense.
Cue August '88 and they let 112,000 People in :mad:

When Guns came on at around 2pm the place went nuts, i was at the front and never been so fcukin scared, if you went down you stayed down

2 fans died in the pit

I got the train back after the gig to my home in North Wales, fell asleep on the train as did quite a few others and ended up in Manchester, kipped in the train station, rang my parents around 9am on the Sunday morning and they were in bits, had been on the news about the deaths and being the days before mobiles nobody could get in touch.

That year i also managed to get a backstage pass (i wrote Please 20,000 times on a letter, asking for a pass, they sent me one)

I was at that gig with my brother. Drove home to Birmingham after and parents were in the same sort of state. Then had to drive back to Norfolk to start work at 06.00 - slept most of the shift instead

Well one of Axl's closest confidants Del James did wish Slash a Happy 50th Birthday last month.... So maybe Del's acting as peacekeeper.

Lol it definitely wasn't Del James. Guy has been brown nosing Axl for years, a total sycophant if there ever was one.

Most likely this is as a result of Duff making friends with Axl again, not to mention playing onstage with him.

Well i did say MAYBE it was Del, but more than likely it was Duff who got both guys talking to one another again after 19 years, where it goes now, it's a case of watch this space

You've got to think those closest to Axl, his ''management'' so to speak, Beta & her family must be sweating bullets about this... They'd be tossed aside like yesterday's leftovers IF a reunion does go ahead.

The news of Slash and Axl talking again seems to have gone down well on MYGNR, whereas HTGTH don't have a clue what the hell is going on....

I think the Slash and Axl news is great. As I said a few posts ago, even if they don't do a reunion at least they've made their peace, which is the most important thing.

However, it doesn't need to be repeated that a major bridge has been crossed so far as a reunion goes. I've been in two minds over how it would affect the band's legacy although Axl has done a lot of damage by himself so maybe it would be a chance to rectify some of it. But with this latest news a reunion actually seems closer than ever so I'm starting to imagine the possibilities. Interesting times ahead anyway!

Libertad was the sound of Weiland getting too big for his boots and singing what he wanted to sing.

The potential revenue for an AFD line up reunion will be far too good to turn at this stage of their careers.

After 19 years it's great to see them make their peace and being the whole repairing the damaged relationship, i'd be as happy knowing they are on speaking terms again, but the way to a reunion has cleared a major hurdle....

IF a reunion album/tour does happen, it'll sting Axl the most, having to swallow his pride and basically admit the last decade + has been a colossal failure and that he ruined the legacy by trying to keep Guns going sans Slash, Duff, Izzy..

As far as i'm concerned the bands legacy from '85-'93 has cemented their place in rock history, even Axl's pissing on said legacy can't diminish the original bands accomplishments.

Not a hope Axl & co were still able to headline festivals if anything the former members could be envious to get a slice of the pie Axl has being enjoying all along.

The revamped band were only headlining because Axl was a **** in '92 and screwed Duff & Slash over in regards to the name... Or they signed over the name without reading through the contract properly.. Depends what you believe..

Then again would the former members want a reunion and the hassle of Axl's antics again, Slash is happy doing his thing with Myles & The Conspirators, Duff & Izzy were in the studio recording, Steven is doing something, Matt i ain't too sure about...

Nah I'll think you'll find they sold tickets is why, despite arriving on stage late/a few bad performances they were booked again and again because they sold tickets.

Fair enough tickets were sold with the name Guns N' Roses on them, but those who went and saw the shows knew well it wasn't really Guns, not to mention along with the late start times/a few bad performances, not to mention a riot..

Amazingly over the 10 years of the Chinese Democracy World Tour, off the 239 shows played, ONLY 51 were cancelled...

It's pointless arguing this now as NuGN'R are as good as buried..

Matts saving whales or shaving them. I don't like Matt sorum being honest. I mean he's a good drummer but he comes across as an arrogant bastard.

If anyone has seen the VH1 special that was done when VR were being formed you'll know that Matt didn't come across in the best light and was really negative to the point where duff pulled him on it and had a go at him about it.
