Yes, I’m not disagreeing with Fionn as I had another good look at the game .

Special teams were disasterous, allowed Bears to attain good field position way too often, ended up around the 40.

Then you had the muff on top of that and the 97 yard return allowed.

So yes, it would have been a wipe out if the special teams had been even half assed good.

Good teams like TampaBay would beat the Packers on that kind of performance

Doubt if getting rid of Mo at this stage would turn the tide, but as you rightly say, a SB could be lost with

    no improvement forthcoming.

Kenny Clarke Covid reserve, would be big loss if out for Ravens.

Aaron Jones missed practice with an illness after being limited in practice Wednesday too. I trust Dillon as an RB1, but I'd still rather have the option of both.

Kenny Clark out would be disastrous against a rush heavy team like Baltimore.

    Special teams.....

FFS, that's a shocking fvcking penalty to give away.

Huntley looks like a better option than Jackson for the Ravens. I'd be more concerned with him at QB than Lamar. There'll always be picks with Lamar. This guy looks accurate asf.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,378 ✭✭✭Fionn1952

If you're talking about a straight arm comparison, fair enough.....but Lamar's double threat is often understated in these comparisons.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,079 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Once again Packers had the dagger in their hands and couldn’t put the Ravens away with a TD.

I am convinced that had the Ravens gone for the Point after they would have won in ot.

Fair play to Harbaugh for going for it, and the win.

It was like the bad old days with a very mobile QB and an in form TE gouging us down the middle with big plays.

Special teams implode again apart from the kicking crew.

ok ….Enough negativity….Packers did just enough to win… away… against a tough team with missing pieces.

MVS was excellent, Rogers reliable, won the North, clinched the playoffs

No new injuries as far as I know……. Onwards and upwards.

I think Huntley showed exactly what I meant last night. He's marginally less athletic than Lamar on the feet but more than enough to trouble any defence. He's levels better with Ball in hand which is the primary job of any QB. If I was the Ravens I'd be thinking of cashing in big on Jackson while his stock is high. He's shown on numerous occasions that he can't complete the passes when they matter. Huntley was also playing in a decimated team which makes his performance more impressive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,378 ✭✭✭Fionn1952

I'm not suggesting the guy isn't talented, but doing it when the other team have hours and hours of tape on you and can build a plan around you is a different kettle of fish to coming into a game as the backup after a game time decision not to play the QB1.

I don't think he's levels better throwing the ball (because I don't buy the, 'Lamar is a glorified RB' hyperbole that surrounds him), I think he was given some relatively easy play calls (just throw it at Mark Andrews would've worked as a play call most of last night, we just didn't have an answer for him) and the offensive coaching could do with treating Lamar in the same way instead of pretending they've got a Mahomes or Rodgers type of thrower of the football back there.

Not playing down how well Huntley did last night, but cashing in on Lamar because a guy had a good game might be a bit rash. Getting rid of a young already former MVP for a dude who shows promise but has ultimately thrown 3 TDs and an INT in 3 games and has a career total of just over 700 yards just strikes me as a bit reactionary.

Who knows though, a bit down the track and you could be looking positively prescient!

Great to see the Saints/Buccs result last night after the Arizona loss too. Just keep things steady and hopefully we get that bye week.

When the Ravens missed on the 4th down and turned over on downs inside their own 40 with the packers already up 11 I thought this would be the game and I could relax. But no of course the heart attack pack rear their head again. Great to see the stop at the end though on the 2 pt conversion attempt. It shouldn't have come to that but it was probably good for the confidence to finally stop the connection to Andrews when it mattered most.

The offence is really starting to motor along nicely and its great to see Lewis and Deguara pick up some of the TE passing slack left by Tonyan's injury. I think the loss of Clark to the defence was massive.

I read this morning that the Bucs and Cardinals losses only mean that the Cowboys move into second and because they have a better NFC record than the Packers they would win on head to head if they end up on the same record. Hopefully we can win the next 3 and that isn't an issue.

Hope the Packers come out with a bit of fizz in Q1

This. Browns team are a team we need a lead on, especially if Baker Mayfield is playing.

ESB needs a big game, no drops, no injuries.

Expecting a Packers win, but please, get on top early and no Q4 drama.

    Thank you.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,946 ✭✭✭threeball

There's always Q4 drama with both these teams. The Brown's are so good on the ground but Mayfield let's them down too many times. Interception after Interception.

Its a weird year. Hard to even pick a frontrunner for the SB. Every team have glaring issues. Packers are scraping through games but will likely get caught st some stage in the playoffs. Buccs have issues. Cardinals are collapsing. Kansas seem to be putting a run together after a terrible start and the Patriots are still a bit green.

All I can say is I have to feel the Packers ‘luck’ will have to run out soon.

And it could start next week!

They have been dodging bullets all season, all fokking season, and , fair enough, they have come through.

However they haven’t really dominated any game on the scoreboard- there’s always something.

Three three and outs in a row at the end of the game is not SB form.

All that was needed is drive or two to eat up the clock.

Offence seem to tie up in situations like this when all they need is a clock eating drive.

Defense was strange …gouged by Chubb and others for big chunks yet had four picks and two huge stops when needed.

Very strange game indeed…. The reaction will be interesting.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,003 ✭✭✭Jofspring

Browns threw that away. Felt at the end all they had to do was run the ball and it was game over for the Packers. Baker trying to be the hero?

Another win is not to be sniffed at though and as mentioned above a lot of teams look shakey in some department.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,350 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

    This.

I didn't watch any alalysis but I couldn't fathom that one - they were averaging something like 8 yards per down on the ground and threw the last 3 downs rather than just nudge into FG range, unless they didn't fancy the back up kicker to hit the FG, but still, seemed strange.

Defence wins championships, and we're coughing up big plays in every game, especially on the ground. Finding a way to win close games though, but you wonder will they run out of road in some of these close games when push comes to shove.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,946 ✭✭✭threeball

Not having a back up kicker they can rely on is inexcusable. There's a world full of high quality deadball specialists across a myriad of sports that could do a job with even an off seasons training. It's one area of the game that seems to have alot of sub standard exponoents.

Three points in the whole second half won’t do it on the concrete when the chips are down and it’s win or out.

    1. Why do they play so ‘soft’….. in def. How many times was the target wide open beyond the marker?

There was a 3rd and 22 vital down for the Packers and Browns got 23yds and went on to get a TD if I remember correctly.

A stop would have been really important

2 Why did they not seal the ends better obvious the ground game was emanating from there.

3 In the last few Packers drives they used Aaron Jones on short third downs and tried to run him past tackles

Surely AJ Dillon was the better option there? Punch it through.

Two challenge fails….. first one should never have been thrown, The Winfrey one was a bad call, I think, thought he made it.

Anyway they won…. Next week the Vikings, is Justin Jefferson going to have another big day!!!

    Hopefully not……

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,079 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Ok … forget about the last two….two wins… bad performance… onwards to meet the Vikings

what they need to do…in my opinion.

    Open fast…get a rythm going…develop a lead.

Defense…. Must hurry Cousins.. he will beat you if given time… obviously improve the run defense ….don’t let JJ dominate you.

Seal the edges and make them earn every yard… tackle properly not over commit.

Better third down prevention in defense and conversion in offense.

Dalvin Cookes participation is not clear but either way but must not be allowed the freedom of Lambeau if playing.

    Go Packers.

Yiadom was selected by the Broncos in the thrid round in 2018 (he was picked after Vance Joseph coached him in the Senior Bowl - another example of Joseph's ineptitude). Yiadom started out impressing but then started making mental errors. Seems like he didn't have the smarts to play CB in the NFL. The Broncos traded him to the Giants for a 7th rounder. The Broncos used the pick on Jonathon Cooper - he has been impressive in his rookie season, playing every game when available, with 31 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.

    Zadarius!!

what do ye make of his ‘injury’. Sounds like he’s downed tools and won’t play. A specialist said he ought be out 8 weeks post that operation.

was listening to it on one of the packer podcasts…. They felt Preston would be cashing in on this year too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,049 ✭✭✭digzy

we know enough about him now!! One of the worst clowns on the roster.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,079 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Poor Kirk is out with the Covid.

I expect a solid win for the Packers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,378 ✭✭✭Fionn1952

If we can keep Dalvin Cook penned in, it should be a routine win. That's a big if though; given how vulnerable we've been to the run, Vikings may not be as silly as the Brown's and just keep pounding through the run game

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,079 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Well F I feel they will have done a lot of work on that based on comment from the area, that and red zone tactics with Rogers taking part

Justin Jefferson can hardly have the game he had in the US Bank Stadium, it’s going to be frigid tonight in Lambeau!

For some reason if feel the Packers will cut loose in tonight’s. game , just a hunch.

Thanks for a recent good ‘block’ on another running attempt in another thread…..good enough for a first down.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,378 ✭✭✭Fionn1952

    Hoping you're right, Bren!

As for the other thread, we may not agree on certain things, but I always try and play straight and call out nonsense from wherever I see it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,928 ✭✭✭Blut2

Hopefully hes ok etc, but Cousins being out is great news for the Packers. Jefferson was a beast in the game earlier in the season, but without Cousins he should have a much quieter day tonight. The spread with the bookies went from Packers by 6pts to Packers by 13pts pretty much instantly when the Cousins news was announced.

Cook is still a danger but as a one-man-show I don't think he'll be enough.

Shame its a late game, would have been enjoyable to watch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,079 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Well well… as predicted a good solid win by the Packers.

First qr was a bit slow, lot of three and outs while they sorted things out.

However they were well on top after that.

There was no way the Vikes were going bust a gut in the freezing temps behind a back up QB

Thats why I felt it would be a good solid win and that no way would Cooke and JJ have the games like

they had in Minneapolis….not a chance.

Delighted Lazard had a great game, he deserved it, caught a few contested passes and held on.

Next week will be interesting as to who will line out, will they rest 12-17-33-28-13 etc and hand over

the controls to Jordan Love, will any of the regulars be back from injury..doubt it.

Interesting times ahead, interesting decisions to be made, hopefully will all end well.

Team reception/yards/TDs in a season records all still within reach for DA17, so I'd imagine he'd like to get the reps to at least give those a go! The fact that Davante could potentially hit all three of those records (though beating Jordy's receiving yards one would be tough) really is testament to how outstanding he is. Franchise tag incoming it seems.

Can't argue with your prediction, I've been hurt too many times as a Fermanagh GAA and Arsenal soccer fan, so I tend towards the pessimistic.

Solid performance all round, special teams didn't balls up too much, Vikings looked beaten before they showed up.

Worth taking a moment to acknowledge LaFleur has just broke the record for the most wins in first three seasons for a head coach. Despite not going as far as we'd like in the post season, he's been a breath of fresh air.

No.1 Seed wrapped up, only team in NFL history with 3 consecutive 13+ win seasons, lots to be positive about!
