3173 looks smart in its new livery! First time in a very long time the Dublin set has had no orange/black!

Even looking at that picture I feel cold!

I have some memories of that season, not all of them fond and few of them warm. One of the Sunday trips saw a rare failure of a 29000 set at Maynooth which meant that it was impossible to run around. To free up the line and to minimise delays the order was made that 4 and the Heritage set would travel onwards to Enfield to perform the manoeuvre.

In the panic nobody remembered told Mr. Claus of the amended plans. The result of that that he spend 90 minutes hiding in a water closet before he appeared to meet the children for the return trip :)

Why was 461 hauling the train wrong road through Killbarack with a 29k held at Howth Junction?

Why was 461 hauling the train wrong road through Killbarack with a 29k held at Howth Junction?

DART 8505 + 8506 had an argument with the OHLE in Raheny / Killbarrack area. Reversible working was set up while they figured out what to do with it.

I see a driver change there in Portlaoise in your photo- I have wondered is there a driver depot there, and if so, do the drivers have to get to the train care depot or the permanent way depot to pick up trains, and how?

The actual location isn't great for photos. Best I can think of is this photo. Athlone - Mullingar Branch behind the train.DSC_3494-S.jpg

The staff concerned in the picture were returning to Heuston from Laois Traincare. Not on driving duties.

Portlaoise is unusual in that it has two drivers depots, both sub depots of Heuston. One depot is for the PWD Trains and the second depot is at Laois Traincare for taking trains into & out of the depot.

LTCD drivers don't just go into the depot, they also work to Heuston, Cork and Carlow.

No knowledge to Carlow anymore, never to Cork either.

They basically know Heuston to Mallow. They have a booked turn ex Mallow each Sunday bringing the 1750 Tralee - Heuston set to Dublin and then to Laois Depot.

Thank's for that, I understood they still knew Carlow.
