    Evening all,

I was confined to Co. Laois today while all the fun was being had in Co. Meath & Co. Louth with the MKIV Gauging trial to Dundalk. Sean Cain and Lar Griffin have kindly contributed photos to the website of the days events. I did manage to photograph 206 in its new "Enterprise" livery at Portarlington with the 1140 Ballina - North Wall IWT Liner.

All the pictures from the day start at http://smu.gs/1Cy0bYS

I've been in Prague for the last four days and got a few pictures of the trams and two videos one of the trains and trams.

I'll post the pictures tomorrow as I've a heuston cork train to catch. Don't worry I'll take pictures of this train and record stuff.

I didn't get a picture of it but one loco hauled train in Prague in 2015 seemed to have got the excess orange and black paint off IR. I actually said out loud jesus that's a mark 3 to which I got blank looks😄😄. The metro in Prague goes a fair old speed.

Sorry I know this is off topic as I don't have a picture but I saw a Mk 3 on the back of a lorry passing northwall going to the airport. My understanding was the ones that were not scraped are getting done up to be used for the new company running the tours. So has one survived briefly ?

More untrained lorry drivers who cannot seem to read bridge clearance signs. Next to nothing done about it.

It baffles me how these bridges are being struck. I mean you can't miss the bloody things and if you have any doubt don't go under the thing.

Two have been kept for the PW department to become the new weed spray train, allowing the current Mk1 GSV to be retired.

I don't know if they are being modified in Inchicore or are they the ones you saw. Are you sure they were going to the airport and not onto the M1 to head north. The only rolling stock in the country that was ever airborn was 201.

I was sitting on the back of a lorry right at the entrance where the Tara's leave North wall and head to be unloaded.

Great photos as always. Don't know if it's a first but it is for me. I never seen a formation of more than 8 HOBS in a train. I see 084 and 086 have 10 between them. From what I can can tell they have one genny unit for every 3 standards unlike the UK that tend to have one genny for every 4 standards, they seem to put more electrical load on their trains.

Not that I know of. There seems to be a lot of clearance done around various parts of the network.

There was a fair few trees came down last year in the big storms - so could be just stepping up a bit of house-keeping-

If they're stripping every thing back like that there's most likely a slope stability problem, we've done similar for Network Rail.

    - Galway line trains at Portarlington.
    - Heuston Station.
    - LUAS Red Line disruption due to the water march protest.

P.S. There was a category 1 near miss with the RPSI Special at the 16 M.P. near Sallins this morning with two trespassers who had cameras. This is now under investigation. May I appeal to all enthusiasts out there to stay safe and stay on the right side of the fence. It will only take an serious incident to occur with an enthusiast special and the R.S.C. and I.E. could ban Steam Specials from the network (in a worst case scenario). I for one, and I'm sure you all agree, don't want to see that happening.

Any particular reason why IE didn't just shut the RPSI into the siding after P2 access to the mainline like normally happens?

Removing the crossover in Kilkeny to stop run rounds was a stupid move by IE, all to save a few quid and not install lifts. Waterford is the only line with no real accessibility and IE waste money doing it in places such as Charleville which handles a tiny few passengers per day! Not often required but a move that costs time and money every time a run happens required a second engine.

How often is this required now a days - only really for the RPSI - so not a huge problem. And the chances are the savings are much greater than this inconvenience.

its very much a huge problem and the supposed savings compared to the flexibility lost is questionable. considering the costs to re-install it when it will be needed, which in years to come, it probably will, its safe to say his point is justified. this is the exact type of penny pinching and nonsense british rail ended up having to do to save a pittence because of more penny pinching and now its being redone at ridiculous cost and where it hasn't been its causing a lot of problems. shame we don't learn from others mistakes but this is ireland so its not surprising
