They definitely wouldn't have beaten Mayo in Croke Park. The mood in the camp also massively lifted after winning the battle against the GAA

    It was a fantastic move.
It had the potential to motivate, it had a built in excuse if it was in CP and Mayo won.

Got the whole country behind Mayo (well maybe not everyone)

Overall IMO it was an excellent strategy by the Kildare management team, they'd positives regardless of the outcome.
Lack of tickets was the only downfall.

    Laois next.

Will struggle in a dog of a game. See Armagh and Carlow.

Derry, Longford and Mayo go toe to toe which suits us.

And Fermanagh are even more defensive than Carlow, going to be a tough game.

If it's put in Clones it'll be abit of a FU to Kildare - wouldn't call a neutral venue one that you could throw a stone into Fermanagh from. Pearse park or Mullingar would be logical - maybe Navan.

Seniors have a 7:00 throw in on Saturday in Navan.

U20 Leinster Final is a 7:30 throw in on Friday in Tullamore.

Juniors also out in the All Ireland semi final against Kerry next weekend.

My dad was at it and I asked him same question and he said he has seen more of a crowd at a county final. He said loads of room to spare and could have easily held 12,000 without issue.
Plenty of stewards and guards and even traffic flow wasn’t to bad..

From a Mayo perspective, terraces were fine, loads of space. Nice close ground where the atmosphere can really build. More seats needed but that's an obvious one for older people and small kids but this is an ideal world and getting seating is very expensive. We got a nice spot right at the front in the stand so the kids could see and they sat on the wall for most of the game so was perfect. Stewards did their best to accommodate those that really needed seats.

One massive issue and surely an easy fix was the toilets. Gross was not the word. Worst I've seen other than Dr Hyde in Roscommon (they have only port-a-loos). Lots out of order long before the game began and the issue only got worse with time. Surely a decent plumber could improve this easily enough? I'd imagine it's things like that and the entries and exits that are why the capacity is reduced. There is clearly plenty of space for more people.

    Full time

    Kildare 1-15 Dublin 0-10

Super stuff. Rang rings around them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,436 ✭✭✭ixus

    Strong performance.

Played a great brand in attack and defense.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Fantastic stuff. Great start to the weekend.

Well done. Kildare going right way. So much for Dublin dominating for evermore. Worst team we've put out since the early 80s.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,806 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

Seniors unchanged for Fermanagh game tomorrow

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,665 ✭✭✭Bonniedog

Reference to our team was not meant to denigrate how good Kildare were. Midfield in particular were brilliant.

Also vindicates KCB's decision to concentrate on actual teams and coaching rather than building stadiums. Good year for you boys. Best of luck tomorrow.

(Have nephews and nieces with Dub parents who wear the white..... we try not to talk about it :-)

So? How were we in Navan?

Played against blanket defense as we should an smoked it. Then took foot off the gas after 45/50mins with subs and was a shortest.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,011 ✭✭✭John.Icy

Fantastic for 50 minutes. Emptied the bench and took the foot off the gas. Honestly was worried for a brief moment - no matter how far ahead you are you shouldn't go 17 minutes without a score. Healy again a decent cameo and lovely 3rd goal.

At the same time - super 8s next two weekends...this group have been playing several weeks on the trot so treating the last 20 minutes with such complacency and leisure I'll allow.

    Cill Dara abú!!

Delighted Kildare made it to the Super 8s. A memorable season after a bad start. Enjoy it!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,436 ✭✭✭ixus

24 hours and only having to fully exert themselves for one half should help keep them fresher than Laois/Monaghan if that's a tight one.

  • Registered Users Posts: 212 ✭✭kencoo

After carlow I didnt think we would get 1 more game but as another poster mentioned we have a history of blips (louth/wicklow etc)over the years and still did well afterwards. Great to see the heart has returned. Fantastic!

    Leinster MFC Semi Final:

    Kildare 1-8 Wicklow 1-3 (HT)

Jack Smyth with the Kildare goal on the half time whistle. Kildare fairly comfortable for most of the half before a Wicklow goal brought them back into it but Kildare have responded well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Wicklow ahead by a point. Kildare yet to score in the second half.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

    Level game approaching injury time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

    Leinster MFC Semi Final:

    Kildare 1-12 Wicklow 2-9 (FT)

Extra time to be played. Kildare will be disappointed with their second half effort.
