Straffan finish strongly. They were six points down with fifteen minutes to go.

So the state of play after the weekend: Monasterevan, St Kevin's and Clane are in the SFC relegation semi finals. The losers of Sarsfields v Maynooth will be the fourth team. Allenwood, Eadestown and Confey into round 3.

Round Towers and Straffan are in the IFC quarter finals. Raheens, Sallins, Ballyteague and Castledermot into round 3. Caragh and Kill are in the relegation semi finals. Replays required between Two Mile House and Clogherinkoe in the winners round to see who goes into the quarter final, and Ballymore and Ellistown in the losers round to see who goes into round 3 and who joins Caragh, Kill, Suncroft/Nurney.

In the JFC Cappagh and Rheban are in the semi finals. Robertstown play Castlemitchell and Milltown play Kilcullen in the quarter finals.

Naas beat EO/CC in the SHC group 1 tonight.

A Sarsfields (1/6 v Maynooth), JTB (1/3 v Leixlip) and Athy (2/7 v St Laurence's) treble this weekend pays even money.

    Ellistown 0-12 Ballymore 0-10

Another relegation dog fight for Ballymore, they were relegated from Senior last year.

The rest of the weekends games:

    SFC

Leixlip v Johnstownbridge - I think this game will be a lot closer than some people think. Tommy Moolick will give Leixlip a huge boost, JTB haven't exactly set the world alight this year. Verdict: JTB by 2

Athy v St. Laurence's - There's never much between these two local rivals. However, Larries were playing Division 2 football this year which puts them at a huge disadvantage. Athy will have too much firepower up front. Verdict: Athy by 6

Naas v Carbury - Probably the toughest game of the weekend to call. Naas had a very good league campaign finishing third behind the two Newbridge clubs. Eoin Doyle will probably pick up Eoghan O'Flaherty which will limit his influence hugely. Verdict: Naas by 2

Sarsfields v Maynooth - Hard to see anything other than a comfortable win for The Sash here. Maynooth languished in mid-table in Division 2 while Sarsfields lost out in the Division 1 final. Alan Smith will be missing for The Sash, but that should matter little to the outcome. Verdict: Sarsfields by 12

Celbridge v Moorefield - Perennial underachievers v the champions, game of the weekend. Celbridge have an abundance of county stars but badly lack scoring forwards. Moorefield to grind out a victory, it's won't be pretty viewing though. Verdict: Moorefield by 3

    IFC

Rathangan v Kilcock - Rathangan, the underachievers of Intermediate football, seem to be an aging side, they have flattered to deceive at this grade in recent years. Kilcock brought in Jack Sheedy after they were relegated from Division 1. Shane O'Rourke to kick them to victory. Verdict: Kilcock by 5

Nurney v Suncroft - Contrasting fortunes for these two sides in the last few years. Suncroft have been relegated to Division 3 while Nurney finished Division 2 in mid-table. Nurney will be without Mikey Conway through suspension but I still think they will have too much for The Croft. Verdict: Nurney by 4

Two Mile House v Clogherinkoe (round 2 replay) - TMH can count themselves lucky to have a second bite of the cherry, a late Aiden Casey free saved their bacon last time out. I feel Clogherinkoe blew their chance last week. Verdict: TMH by 3

Not as bad as it sounds. A card happy referee. I despair for Gaelic football at times.

Now, I'm off to drink myself into oblivion.

Athy 0-6 Larries 0-6 (Half Time)

    Very tight dour encounter.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,806 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

Larries 0-11 Athy 1-8. A Niall Kelly goal with 5 mins left look to have secured the win but a fantastic point by Karl O'Brien deep into injury time forced the draw

Athy flatter to deceive again. They looked devastating against Sarsfields and then so one dimensional tonight. Paddy Dunne at the edge of the square was a move that worked well during the league but I felt they totally overdid it tonight.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

    Naas 0-15 Carbury 1-6

Eoin Doyle straight red card in the second half

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Clogherinkoe 1-11 Two Mile House 0-5

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Maynooth 0-4 Sarsfields 0-1 Half Time

Poor match. Sarsfields are in big trouble here.

Opening two points of the second half for Sarsfields.
