This is Goggles new foray in to social networking. I saw it on Sky News. It's by invite only.
It looks pretty cool , and I think that it could knock Facebook off as the king of social sites . I love the idea of circles, with facebook everone see you post , not with circles . How many "friends" on facebook do you have ? Now how may of them would see on daily basis, or want to see?

Good point. As the saying goes, "If at first you dont succeed, give up"....oh wait...

What about Wave. Anyone remember that? :pac:

But I'm intrigued by this. Seems to categorise contacts by similar activities and interests rather than having an increasing number of people that most of them you know only briefly. Erm, that's not to say that it's going to happen with Plus.

I was gonna post this up but its done for me. Thank god for Robots doing all your work.:p

So my question was Google plus anyone?

But i dont need to now as i take it were all going together .
Now that we have Circles we should create a B.ie Circle. although i dont know how many will like that. ya'll seem like sketchy characters :p:p:D

    (sorwy if i hurt you)

LOL @ google trying to create a facebook clone

Google should just stick to the things that they are good at (search and mail)

Look at youtube now, Its a mess

Is it. What about Chrome and Android.

I messing around with it now. The image quality is f**king glourious. As a photog, I just despise facebook in so many ways! The have a monopoly on my social networking and easy outreach ability but they give me this rubbish platform to share my work on. I have some invites to but im going to post them on the photographers forum just to spread it around a bit more as I know not everyone will check the computers forum! I'm excited and I'm already using it really easily! 10 mins and now I'm comfy with it!

Im sitting in front of chrome right now! Im short an android phone because I cant afford the one I want! Some innovation is part luck and part skill for it to settle and take off. I really hope google gives this a big shot!

The old youtube user interface was far better. I also hate the way they always feature YT partners content above normal youtube users.

I also find Firefox to be better than chrome (the extensions on chrome suck)

Another reason I don't like using chrome is because all text you enter into the url box is sent straight to google.

Are you ever going to add any substance to your criticisms?

You do realise that there's a copyright clause in facebook T&Cs that gives them copyright rights with any and all photos you upload, even after you remove them?

That's why no photographers actually upload their work onto facebook, or if they do, it's tiny size and watermarked to fcuk.

I'd be checking the T&C's of this too.

Facebook is bad enough. Google having direct access to my social network data would be even worse.

I've never understood people freaking out over google/facebook/microsoft/apple/twitter etc. having all this data. What do you put up on your social networking that has you worried? Everything I put up is relatively mundane shíte. My last three status updates were about 1) a toothache 2) passing my exams and 3) a power cut. If google had this information they'd just show me an ad for painkillers, party hats and a torch. Apart from targeting ads what else does this data get used for?

    My god, you don't know?

Google would then know that at some stage in the future, you're going to need to see a dentist. They would then buy out all the dental companies in your locality, and as you were unaware of the new T&C's when you visit, you would have a GPS/video/voice/IR/NV/nanomachines/ETC device installed into your tooth. This would give Google all the information they'd ever need on you.

And by mentioning that you'd passed your exams, you've allowed google to keep up to date tabs on your education. This will be kept in a database and sold to the highest bidder.

And that info about a power cut, google will keep a record of how often power cuts occur in your locality, and if any of your friends had complained of the same thing. Then before you know it, google will be providing their own source of power for your locality! Once this power line is installed, it will also provide google a direct link to your home and will transmit, via nanomachines, all data on the happenings in your house.

And you thought they were harmless....:pac:

What does one have to do to get a f**k**g invite?
    Is it really worth it?

We've shut down invite mechanism for the night. Insane demand. We need to do this carefully, and in a controlled way. Thank you all for your interest!

For any who wish to leave, please remember you can always exit and take your data with you by using Google Takeout.

It's your data, your relationships, your identity.

FB needs a good kick up the rear end, it is starting to look stale and dated. Competition is no harm and should encourage them to innovate.

You can set up Facebook to only let a particular group see a particular post, exactly like how circles work. I have groups for family, friends, colleagues, sports, etc and only those people will see relevant posts (just click on the padlock to select the group when posting). I've the same done for chatting and places. Only people I want to chat with can see when I am online and only people I would regularly hang out with can see when I am checked in somewhere.

Once inviting comes back online, I'd be extemely grateful to anyone who can hook me up. Really want to take a look at this.

Edit: Nevermind, a friend on twitter hooked me up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,532 ✭✭✭WolfForager

I see the guys on GAF are saying they're back online, either that or there's a limit to how many people you can invite.

Would love an invite if anyone can invite :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,112 ✭✭✭Dacelonid

Would love an invite too, if there are any available.

Reminds me so much of GMail beta in college with people literally begging invites off people they didn't even know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,564 ✭✭✭quad_red

    Gotta say, I'm mightily impressed.

A few minutes into Wave and I was asking myself why would I want to use this.

A few minutes into Plus and I can see why I already prefer it over facebook.
