    Ouch!
How did it happen? Sounds nasty.

    Are you alright?
I was working at a local festival and came back to my car to find the spoiler ripped off and left on the boot, the mirror has been kicked off, the aerial has been ripped off and there are hand and foot prints all over it.
It looks like someone stood/jumped on the roof as it's all caved in tight now.

I'll upload photos if someone tells me how to resize them.

There was at least 1 other car damaged in pretty much the same way, at least according to the guard I was talking to.
They suspect it was youths just creating havock.

Nothing fancy, a 98 corolla. I was very slowly trying to fix it up too.

    Thanks guys.
I know it's regarded as a boring car, but I don't think so. I've put 12kmiles on it in 4 months, including driving 1000 miles to Silverstone and back.

It might be my best bet if the quotes for repairs keep going the way they are.
Few hundred at least according to the only PDR in the area. And thats without seeing it.
I'm seeing him tomorrow, a panel beater I know tomorrow, and a brother of a guy I work with today.

if they are smooth dents (with no sharp crinkles) could you stick a household plunger onto them and pop them back out? or push any back up from the inside? i dont think theres too much framework to a corolla roof.

Washed and hoovered the Polo. I'm gonna insure it in two weeks time and drive it :)

The PDR guy asked me not to touch it. He might be able to put it back into place with one good slap on the inside, but if I do something to it myself that doesn't work then he won't be able to do that.

There's a trick on youtube that uses air in a spray can and a hairdryer. The air is sprayed onto the dent (it comes out very cold) then the hairdryer is applied. Due to contraction and expansion of metal in regard to heat and cold, the dent them pops back out with no damage to the paint.

Will that work on a dent half the size of the roof?

It's called thermal shock, and the outcome would probably be more predictable on a smaller area. Or it could cause the paint to crack. I wouldn't try it on an area larger than my fist tbh.

The damage doesn't look as bad in the pictures for some reason.

In the last one, that seal is ment to be at the side of the roof, not looking like there is a drainage channel there. Thats just where the roof has moved that much. Its the same on both sides.

    Looks pretty bad to me.

    Oh...

Well then, not to be of any offence, but it's more than likely not worth while getting it fixed.

I'd be lying the seats back, getting a pair of clean slippers and pushing up with my feet as hard as I could.

I was really hoping no one would say that.

How difficult is it to attach a spoiler?

I did that with a Land Cruiser once, similar story, some scumbag climbed up on the roof.

Best leaving it into someone and see what they say, in my case a kick to the headlining popped it out, but the corolla roof is a lot lower so if you make a bags of it it'll show.

I must figure out how to get the side skirts on the 156 properly attached both side are slightly loose. Would love to get a set of GTA headlamps for the car.

Ditto, I have the same problem with the side skirts on mine. Also the badges are badly faded and would love a set of the GTA lights too!

These kind of things are usually clipped on and a thing piece of double-sided tape around the edge. If you decide to take them off in order to re-tape them, be warned that it can be an absolute pain to get the old tape off both the door and the skirts themselves.

There's no point in doing it if you aren't going to get rid of all the tape and residue. Much better off to start with a clean surface and use fresh tape.

Quickest and cheapest fix with a car that old. I've had to do that at some stage....

Automotive windscreen bond or tiger seal should do the trick :)

I must have hit a speed bump too fast or something because the cover at the bottom of the engine bay in the golf is hangin low. Stupid speed bumps are too high up, I'd hate to be driving a gallardo or something (well I wouldnt but im just pissed off now :P )

Did a large service today, ticked most of the boxes for an Inspection 2.

    Supplies:

Started with oil, about 7000 miles in it:
    060820127783.jpg

Waiting for that to fully drain, swapped out the air filter:
    060820127805.jpg

    ...and the two cabin filters:
    060820127794.jpg

After swapping the oil filter and filling up with Castrol 0w 30, moved onto brake fluid, all four corners:
    060820127816.jpg

Forgot the front calipers had two bleed valves each, just about had enough fluid!

Then moved onto coolant, popped the drain plug in the side of the block and under the radiator:
    060820127827.jpg

No elegant way of draining the block, coolant goes everywhere.

Refilled 50:50 to spec and bled the system.

Topped up washer fluid and power steering fluid.
Just have to get the aircon recirculation filters in tomorrow.
