Yup. Wouldn't paint the car. i actually don't trust someone would do it as good.

There's a tiny spec of rust bubbling on the boot, that will have to addressed also.

Sounds good, there's a lad up here that does a smashing job but I'm sure you have somebody in your neck of the woods

today i let 3 polish men give my car a thorough groping.

3 men, twenty minutes. not one word of english spoken. lying on the ground, looking under here, looking under there, bouncing on every corner, tugging and pulling every wheel, tapping every panel, running their finger along every shut line, kicking every tyre.

trying every switch on the dashboard, rolling every window up and down, lifting every car mat and opening every pocket and drawer, reading every manual, opening the bonnet and anything with a lid under the bonnet was opened too. boot opened, spare wheel out and checked, reg plates even got examined.

headlights were touched, tail lights were touched, tow bar was examined.

then he drove it, managed to get her up into the high gears and cover a fair speed in tescos car park. hard accelearating, hard braking, ripping it through the gears. parks it up and begins touching more things and talking aloud in polish, the 3 boyos are all busy touching stuff again for another few minutes.

hands the keys back to me and says "sorry, we no take" the only 4 words i got from him, they dont even look at me or shake hands as they walk off.
    ****ers.

not a good day on the buying or selling front.

    135,000!

in fairness, that's not even 20k miles a year so it's hardly out of the way.

i'm happy with it. The angle at the rear, although more pleasing to the eye, is i bit tighter at the top than the Golf, so i reckon the boot is smaller.

i also cleaned the air flow meter and it's since stopped working, had to order a new one. Which is a bit annoying.

Also the gadgets and gizmo's are great though, makes it a pleasure to drive. Still get compliments day in day out about it :)

I thought it was 135k when you bought it so assumed you'd actually been driving it the last few weeks! :pac:

They're a great looking car alright and I like the wheels on yours too. Well wear with it man!

i have it on the Mpg thing the whole time so haven't checked the mileage. The last time i check i'd done 1,800 on it so i assume it's up around 137, i'll check tomorrow along with the beading shots.

Hate that kind that come to the country, can't speak any English, think that when they earn €8.65 they're rich... Ruins the Irish opinion on us, Polish.
What car is it if I may ask?

In fairness I do this when looking at cars to buy. Nothing wrong with it as you are parting with a lot of money so why just look at the car from a distance, give it a bit of a test drive and buy the car? I really check a car over first.

But the rest of your experience would pi$$ me off too. Rude of them and rude not to explain why they didn't buy it.

I was told by a friend I'd consider to know what he's talking about to stay well away from BBS reps in particular. Wouldn't it be better to get a second hand set and get them refurbished?

The problem with BBS LM reps is they are not really suited to a Daily car.
Cleaning them is a nightmare and also the Lacquer has a habit of lifting on the polished rim. Meaning lots of polishing with metal polish ro keep them looking good.

Was going to fit them to the Toledo originally but changed to A5 Reps instead. Remember also. 18" reps with tyres are HEAVY..!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,157 ✭✭✭Compton

Thats the thing about reps, VERY HEAVY, I have 15" reps on a fiesta and its very hard to pull them along! Gonna be swapping back to OEM alloys soon

What about reall BBS? Are they as heavy? I hope not, 'cos I love them! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,157 ✭✭✭Compton

I don't think real BBS will be as heavy, I think the polished lip adds a lot of weight not sure though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,596 ✭✭✭Stealthirl

I read somewhere on StanceWorks that a guy got a set of BBS (can't remember which, but they were two piece not three) for $200 + shipping to Norway from America. He got them refurbished which would cost around €500 total I'd say. Maybe less.

EDIT: They were normal BBS, not gold or anything and they were on a white E30 if anyone knows the car that I'm talking about.

If I lived in Sligo, I'd have them by now :D BBS are always worth money IMO.

Didn't someone say they needed BBS for around €500?

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/carextras/3381295

EDIT: Also, alloys have to be worth more than the car in this :P http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/carextras/3343738

Do Toyota and VW share the same thread pattern? I know older VW had a different size compared to new Audis. Would suck to buy them only to find out they won't bolt up.

And I would never trust wobble bolts.
