Seems to be €59 now. What am I doing wrong?
Make sure you select, "I want to change to vodafone", or something along those lines. Not "I want a new number"

Get yourself a free sim from SIM from O2, 3, etc and select Switch number to Vodafone.

Hope someone can help me out on this, I'm not so smart on smartphones.

I have a a regular vodafone phone on bill pay, which I assume I can't use as it is for new PAYG customers.

Could I use my son's number or will that be cut off? Or is it easier to just pick up a free sim from O2?

Will I be able to use the phone with my original Vodafone sim ?

Do I have to sign up to a full data package? I have wifi in the house & at work, will it run off this instead so I can download what I need there & use it off line other than that ?

    Thanks

You can use your sons or any other number once its not vodafone
    The number wont change
youll be able to use the phone with your original vodafone sim
If you top up 20 a month theres free internet with vodafone at the moment
    Hope that helps

Yes, they will send an SMS to the number you give them to initiate porting. I'm quite sure that you can't finish the purchase without the code.

Its showing up on your fatcheese account? Not showing up on mine :(

I guess I'll need to get in touch with them....

Yup showed up later the same day of purchase.

had some problems with rooting and de-branding but managed to do it

google, download and copy to sd card those files:
z4root.1.3.0.apk 622B57E3 (tried few others way to root and they didn't work)
    r0_de-branded_u8160-update-signed.zip 46B69240
    recovery-RA-u8160-v2.3.img 88A79DB2
    RecoveryManager_v0.36b.apk CD6D10DB

make sure that you have files with same sfv checksums

install z4root, install recovery manager, run it, choose img file, install, reboot, navigate with volume & power buttons to zip file and flash it

you will have rooted software with no vodafone programs in it

all mentioned above files are freeware (free to download and use)
if you don't know what rooting is you really don't need it

Ordered the 9.99 Nokia! Will go nicely with my Samsung Cobble for 9.99 on Meteor a few weeks ago with 15 cash back!

End result, 2 free phones and 17.50 in free cash!

As an additional bonus, you could use Fatcheese to get a free O2 Experience SIM card (which nets you €2 - http://www.fatcheese.ie/cashback/o2-ireland-free-sim/), then use that to Port to Vodafone to avail of the €39.99 price.

Also: If you have not used Fatcheese.ie before you could use this referral link (snip) which would earn you (and me) an additional 50c cashback each.

This way you can save up to an extra €2.50 on the price of the phone.

    Typical,

I was all ready to go with this, had the black phone selected & nipped to Tesco to get the sim for €2.50.

    Put in the SIM
    Keyed in the number
Got the security code & then got an error message.....

So I don;t know if they will be back in stock & I don't know if the code I already got will work

    Just my luck !!

I think they're the checksums he was talking about.

File directories seem to have MD5 checksums. I have appended the MD5 checksums for the files and confirm the procedure has worked.

    z4root.1.3.0.apk
    622B57E3, MD5: 46965bd41dac0e4988515aa2f9f95b19
    r0_de-branded_u8160-update-signed.zip
    46B69240, MD5: f3e4be5e6b5a1bce771625767cce88f2
    recovery-RA-u8160-v2.3.img
    88A79DB2, MD5: 9af7f60fc26ee4321874e5929c42e82d

Thanks for the info got the phone unlock have to try the Rooting later.

Is there an Android PC suite similar to Itunes to back-up, upgrade, download apps, etc? Want to back-up in case the rooting doesn't work as expected.

    Thanks

You need to do a switch over to get the €22.50 you can get a free sim from most of the other providers for sure with O2 and 3

Just ordererd one of these. I got the VF845 joy previously porting a Meteor free sim for the bethrifty.ie credit.

Very happy with it indeed but the Vodafone ported sim which arrived with the VF845 it never worked. I just got the 'sim registration failed' message. I checked with the support forum, Vodafone contacted Meteor and Meteor said they didnt recognise the Meteor simcard..strange! Well I know I never topped it up by one cent but I'm just wondering if anyone else found that with the free unused simcards? I know I can get a Vodafone sim from their website for buttons but it would be handy if the phone arrived with a functioning simcard. Incidentally, I used the same previously ported Meteor simcard to purchase the Vodafone Smart...: no problem. Its great! I might be able to keep porting forever!!

I took new connection as being a new number, not porting.
