    Talk about lazy sensationalist “journalism”

It should be easy enough to track them down. A little selection of 3,000 bonds in Cork has been having a bit of good luck in the last 6 months. Lean times before that because the search reports all winners since March 2020.

March count. The same 10 million bonds BFQ to BFZ in each of the 5 draws. These bonds also won €500 BFX March 22.

Friday 01. 119 prizes. Highest BFU 16. Lowest BFV 6.

    Friday 08. 148. BFR & BFW 19 each. BFS 8.

    Friday 15. 119. BFS 17. BFV 8.

    Friday 22. 115. BFZ 21. BFR 4.

    Thursday 28. 137. BFU 20. BFX 9.

    Highest overall BFZ 77 (14,16,9,21,17). Lowest BFX 50 (13,9,13,6,9).

    50 million bonds won 638 prizes, average per million 12.76. x 52 x €75 = €49,674.00. Divided by 62.5 to get what €100K would win in a year with the same luck = €796.22. Nearest to 11 x €75.

I was looking forward to maybe getting good news tomorrow - disappointed to read here that the draw was today!

5 x €75 in first quarter 2024 and 5 x €50 in first quarter last year - was there supposedly an increase in the number of prizes? It didn't reach me!

Already a better return than 2023 thankfully.

The site is now saying the Tracker is going at the end of April. First noted 31 March, but probably there before that?

IMPORTANT: The Prize Bond Tracker will be removed at the end of April 2024. Customers can still check winnings using other features on the Website including State Savings Online.

Question on the rule of not being able to cash in any new PB's in the first 90 days. I presume this only applies to newly bought PB's?

For example, this week I cashed in a portion of one PB holding. So I expect to get a new slip in the next week or so with the remaining bonds in that holding. Is this new slip considered 'new' with regards to the 90 day rule? Likewise with any €75 wins that are reinvested to new PB's. I presume the 90 day rule doesn't apply in either of these cases?

"So I expect to get a new slip in the next week or so with the remaining bonds in that holding. Is this new slip considered 'new' with regards to the 90 day rule?"

Very difficult to answer this definitively. I'm assuming the you did what they refer to as a "Partial Encashment", i.e. cashed in some of the range, starting with the first number in the range. It isn't explicitly stated anywhere that you can cash the remaining bonds within 90 days of issue of the new cert, however it would appear reasonable that you should be able to do so as you have already held these for over 90 days. But "State Savings" and "reasonable" don't always go together. I had a similar request at one point and their interpretation of the regulations made almost no sense.

"Likewise with any €75 wins that are reinvested to new PB's. I presume the 90 day rule doesn't apply in either of these cases?"

Do I have to hold Prize Bonds reinvested from Prize Bond winnings for 90 days?

No, Prize Bonds that have been purchased from a prize win are not required to be held for a minimum of 90 days. These bonds are eligible for repayment to your bank account once issued.

My interpretation. There is no purchase involved, so the rule about purchases doesn't apply.

"Except with the consent of the Operator, the sum repayable in respect of a bond shall not be repayable nor shall a bond be transferable at any time prior to the elapse of 90 days after the date of purchase of the bond."

  • Registered Users Posts: 600 ✭✭✭sportsfan90

Thanks Hibernicis and dxhound2005. It's also my interpretation that I should be able to cash in the remainder of the holding without having the 90 day rule imposed again.

I did a partial encashment a few years ago, and while I didn't attempt to cash in any more of it in the following 90 days, the date on the new slip was the same as the date from when the original holding had been bought. That was in the days of the old smaller type slips that they used post out but I'd imagine it should be the same now. But then again it's not impossible that they'd send out a "computer says no" type response.

If I do end up requesting to cash in the remainder of that holding within 90 days I'll post in this thread if I was successful or not.

    Thanks @sportsfan90

I’d be very interested to hear details of the Replacement Certificate you receive for the balance of that batch that you cashed in this week, and specifically what date is shown on it. Would really appreciate if you could post this when you receive the cert.

€75 for me, email came at 12:39.

The number of €75 prizes on the April draws is 9,215 down from 9,241 in March. The newest bond to win on 01 March was BGA272878. Newest 05 April BGG141193. Sales of around €36.7 million.

Nothing either for me from prize bonds this week.

The number of €75's is down to 9215 per week for April. However, the number to watch for next month is 9211 because that will be 257 less €75's per week. So what? Over a year that is €1million less prize money paid out which @ 1% will show that the total fund has dropped by €100million since October 23. The trend in April is down, not as steep as February and March, but a way from bottoming out and growing again.
