    €75 for me today.

The number of €75 prizes in the February draws is 9,276 down from 9,323 in January. It was 9,468 when the €75 prizes started in October 2023. A reduction of just over 2% since.

The newest bond to win on 05 January was BFQ188557, newest 02 February BFV413611, sales of around €32.66 million. Doing this exercise for January 2023, my estimate was €47 million.

Previous sales in January, from the published accounts:

    2017 €62.558 million. 2018 €48.605. 2019 €55.259. 2020 €52.625. 2021 €67.832 (Covid effect?). 2022 €54.202.

€75 for me today. Streak is now 6 weeks.

Your numbers are interesting @dxhound2005 - the January average over the seven years you list is €55.5m, so €32.66m represents a substantial 41% drop. Which is understandable give the relatively poor 1% rate. In reality, the main attraction now is the state guarantee.

The tracker was updated by 12:31 today. State Savings Online wasn't updated until 12:40, and was absolutely crawling at that time.

This must be great fun these days in State Savings working out the number of €75 prizes for the following month: "The value of the prize fund is recalculated at the end of every month, in line with the monthly net sales of Prize Bonds."

Since last June the number of prizes issued has dropped each month, except October when the rate changed, and so the fund is also dropping. February has 188 less €75 prizes over 4 weeks. I estimate this is a net €16.9m reduction in the PB fund since the end of December.

As @dxhound2005 estimates new bond sales at €47m the net encashment has to be €64m, over 10 million bonds. In January 2022 that encashment was €26.3m, some turnaround.

P.S. Nothing for me here, but £350 from the other side of the Irish Sea so far and it's only February.

The Greek bond holder is on a roll, 2 €75euros this week totalling €150euro winning as well as some wins in January, there's no end to that holder's luck and the bond series ZH is a few years old and still winning, love to know the total holding.

Anyway back to unlucky me, nothing since 2024 started, my bonds much be buried at the bottom of the pile.

The number of €50 prizes was essentially static from May to July inclusive. May 4,812 up from 4,801 in April. June 4,810, July 4,809. August 4,791, September 4,764. Then in October the €75's came in.

This movement coincides with the campaign which took place by journalists and politicians to force the banks and the NTMA to increase their rates. I call it a bad publicity effect. There was no commercial reason for the increases, as those bodies were are are stuffed to the gills with funds, and were trying to deter new deposits.

The Credit Unions played a blinder. They got away with enforcing massive reductions to maximum savings. And paying mostly zero interest for the last few years. Only revealing at the end of each year what they were paying, if anything. In 2023 they paid typically 0.4%, which is subject to DIRT. But they are still stuffed to the gills with money they can't lend out. Nearly four times as much as there is in Prize Bonds. All of this going on, and the public voted them the most trusted organisation in Ireland.

"ILCU member credit union capital reserves stand at 15.8% at end September 2023, comfortably ahead of regulatory requirements and are up from 15.6% at end September 2022. ILCU member credit union assets are up 2.8% to €17.9 billion in the year to end September 2023 up from €17.4 billion at end September 2022." (6 Dec 2023)

Total holding approx 63,000 bonds worth €393,750. From ZH759000 to ZH822000. We gave them a lot of attention over the years, so I can be confident about those figures. They certainly enjoyed better than average luck maybe 2 or 3 years back, but are below average for the last 27 draws. Your impression of how well they are doing recently is coloured by memory.

    They got 2 x €50 in the 9 draws up until October, and 12 x €75 in the 18 draws since. Compared to expected figures of €184 (4 x €50 rounded), and €1,035 (14 x €75 rounded).

In this calendar year they will get 40 x €75 with average luck.

€75 for me today. A small group of bonds has been doing well in recent months. But before that it was nearly a year with no wins.

I've had 3 x €50 since I invested €50k in December 2021. That just slightly over 0.1% return on investment. I'll be taking them out later this year hopefully to use as a deposit but I definitely feel a little slighted by my luck

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,440 ✭✭✭Hibernicis

Hang in there. With average luck you should have 4 or 5 wins in a year, adding €375 - €450 to your deposit.

€75 for me today, streak is now seven weeks unbroken.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,296 ✭✭✭phormium

I got 3x75 last year and 1x50 and got 75 last week again. Have never seen them so regular in all the years I have bonds. I'm not generally a lucky person!

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,626 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

    Southern Star 09 February 2024.

"ONE lucky person in Cork is €50,000 richer following a prize bond draw earlier today. The winning bond was purchased in 2019, and goes to the lucky number APD791568."

The €500K and €50K winners on 26 January were both also from 2019. And €50K to an AQC bond on 02 February was most likely 2019. Three letter prefixes started in mid 2015, and far more bonds have been sold since then than between 1957 and 2015.

This is reflected in the number of winners. Today 15 of the 20 €1K prizes, and 17 of the 20 €500 prizes were three letters. On the other hand 6 bonds from the first million in 1957 won, which is the most I have seen. I checked to see if any of them won before and went unclaimed. None, but when I was checked 980368, it produced this slightly interesting stat, three consecutive bonds with unclaimed wins. Could be the same person? Those €75's are from the old days, before the €50's came in. For our younger listeners €63.49 is 50 Punts.

Uncashed: Letter with cheque delivered to winner, cheque never cashed. Unclaimed: Probably letter returned, winner moved address, unable to trace.

    For 980000 - 981000

Prize Bond Number Prize Value Status

    980352 €75.00 Uncashed i

    980364 €63.49 Uncashed i

    980414 €50.00 Unclaimed i

    980415 €75.00 Unclaimed i

    980416 €75.00 Unclaimed i

    980444 €75.00 Unclaimed i

Unclaimed Prizes (Annual Report) At the end of 2022, the number of unclaimed prizes, built up since the launch of the product in 1957, amounted to €3.38 million. Unclaimed prizes are defined as not claimed after six months. It should be noted that we communicate with every prize winner at the address we have for the customer. Unclaimed prizes primarily arise due to customers not notifying us of their change of address. We encourage customers to notify us of any changes as early as possible after the change. The amount outstanding in these prizes is a very small part of the value of prizes awarded over the years since the incorporation of the Prize Bond Scheme. All prizes are listed on the State Savings website, www. StateSavings.ie. It is important to remember that prizes are held indefinitely until claimed by a bond holder

Edit: Corrected winning number from ADP to APD.

Sorry Tuis, I feel your pain. Been there. After cashing in three quarters of mine last week I couldn't believe it today when I got a notification from state savings. Was even more surprised when I logged in to find I won 2x75. Both from the same batch( the only batch left).I had a 50 win from same batch last July. So 3 of the last 4 wins were from same serial number. When I checked the website that serial number had 17 winners today . It seems to have consistently high proportion of wins when I looked back over other draws.

Glad you got something, your reward for hanging in there !

  • Registered Users Posts: 287 ✭✭carrickbawn

Thank you but the real reward is that im already getting a real return on the three quarters I withdrew and happy to take pot luck with what I left in prize bonds. Win win.
