Ah so you do get a separate notification? Good to know in case I make a typo when entering them into the checker (the actual bond itself has a space between the letters and numbers but I always enter them without the space).

Yes, you get an email just saying you have new notification - it doesnt actually tell you that you've won or how much until you actually log into the site itself.

Nothing for me today. The €50K and a €50 went to Greece. That person has a very large holding, and they feature regularly in the €50 winners. See my post #5748 on page 384. They also won €1,000 in June 2018.

You will only get the emails if you have signed up to the new State Savings portal

    https://www.statesavings.ie/begin-registration

It's a bit of a cumbersome process but does give you better visibility of your bonds and notifications. There are been a few posts on it earlier in the thread, has been available for last 3 months or so I think.

So very roughly in % terms what have people who put in large sums found the APR to be ?
( I know people don't just do it for the APR etc. there are other factors such as the change of a big win, and the security)

Around 0.5% in both 2018 and 2019, 0.37% in 2020. The expected return with average luck for those years would have been roughly 0.35%, so I did a bit better. All DIRT free. I posted the details on the thread at the start of 2019, 20 and 21.

The notional interest rate changed in the middle of 2017 so I did not try to calculate my return for that year. The rate changed again in February this year, so the expected return with average luck is now 0.25%.

In general you will need to look at a holding over the course of a few years to see the return. Someone with what would be regarded as big money here could go for a few months winning nothing. Or they could have a run of good luck over a few months.

I haven't won a tap since the interest rate went down in January. Feel like I am due the big one next month :)

I just cashed out some Bitcoin and want a safe harbour for my cash, is it worth sinking 2k into these bonds?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Christ, 2k is such a frustratingly pointless amount of cash. I can't really do anything with it in an investment context.

I may as well just sink it into coke and hookers, such is its pointlessness as an investment instrument.

This country is set up to keep poor people poor!

There's no restriction on Irish citizens investing in international products, so not sure what you mean here. What has Ireland done to hinder your investment opportunities?

Bitcoin was a false hope for me sadly. Too chaotic and unpredictable. The Lambo never materialised and now I don't know what to do with my cash.

Perhaps gold and silver are worth a try.

Just be aware that like Crypto, gold and silver will have people trying to manipulate the market to increase the value / selling price of their holdings. With Prize Bonds it doesn't matter to existing holders how much other people put in or take out.

Just printed the repayment form there, a place I want to buy is coming up for sale next week at long last. I'll do a full breakdown of my mediocre winnings later but no wins on 100 grand since last September tells you all you need to know, pathetic.

yeah more tales of woe,i was thinking of throwing another 100k or so in these but PB2018,yourself and my own results is putting me off, these things really are rubbish these days.property is the way to go alright(imo),might just put the 100k until the end of the year(and out of debit card range!) when hopefully the covid is less of an issue and we'll look at an apartment or something(getting around €1200-1300 a month where i am),and to think that there's people asking about putting a few grand in unless you're one of the chosen few apparently.good luck on the property front:)

I was keeping a lookout for the 2020 Annual Report. The 2019 report was in the papers in early May 2020. I came across the An Post Annual Report for 2020 which on Page 20 has this about Prize Bonds.

Prize Bonds ‑ net fund inflow €447.6m

Added to the fund value at the end of 2019 this would make the fund value on 31 December 2020 €4.1025 billion.
