Nothing for me today. The number of €50 prizes in the June draws is 4,075 up from 4,038 in May. The newest bond to win a prize on 07 May was AWK 268061, newest 04 June AWT 270900. This indicates sales of around €56.5 million.

Here is a coincidence. The €50K went to Kilkenny today, and exactly a year ago to Kilkenny. Feckin' Cats. The OU winner today would be from around 2012.

My luck returned this week with €50.

It started brilliantly with 3 wins in 8 weeks on 65k.

Then nothing for 22 weeks, but I got my first win since Christmas today.

An earlier discussion in this thread got me thinking about the extent to which cheques have become almost redundant. So I trawled back through my records to see when was the last time I wrote a cheque and the answer was June 2018 and the one before that was November 2017.

I still have three cheques in my chequebook, but I doubt I'll ever get to use them.

Prize Bond Number Value of Prize
    MN573440 €50.00

    19 Feb 2021
    MN575446 €50.00

The 2020 Annual Report is on the website.

    https://www.statesavings.ie/media/pdf/prizebonds_annualreport_2020.pdf

Pages 20 and 21 for details of prizes, sales, and repayments. Sales were €735.67 million, highest month was March with €94.763 million. Repayments €283.049 million, leaving the year end value of the fund €4.102 billion.

That would be around 655 million bonds, about 25 million of which are valued at €6.35. I estimate that the fund has gone up another €150 to €200 million this year.

The Irish Times gives a fair summation of the Annual Report, also RTE. Sometimes media get it wrong.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/business/retail-and-services/sales-of-prize-bonds-up-37-as-value-of-fund-hits-record-level-1.4590643

I did a calculation to work out the real world return if the product was paying out interest instead of €50 prizes. It would still leave the big prizes.

Total prizes €19,242,050 of which €13,962,050 was €50 prizes, 72.56% of the money. Equals 0.3628% return, 0.4825% for those subject to DIRT. The nearest to €362.80 on €100K is €350, so the average luck 7 prizes is proved again.

This year it will be approx 0.256%, 5 prizes.

Anyone i ever knew holding prize bonds have never won a single thing, or at least they don't admit to anyway. Anyone here the same.??
I know lots of people that have won from both small to substantial amounts in the National Lotto and know 2 people that have won huge amounts in Euro millions.

    Something not adding up here.!!

    What do you think.??
Nobody seems to know anybody that has actually won a prize.
Do you get that.? Not exactly rocket science is it.?

Other than the people here very very few people know about my little wins, it's not that I'd be denying it but tbh few enough would be asking me anyway. If you are playing the National Lotto regularly then you are spending a minimum of €400 per year so you would need to be winning reasonably consistently to get close to break even. I used to do the Lotto and at a guess I lost 90% of what I 'invested' in it - by contrast I have never lost a penny/cent of what I invested in PBs. If somebody wins €1m in the lottery in Tournafulla there will be a big brouhaha about it, champagne flowing in the local huckster shop that sold the ticket, virtually impossible to avoid being identified. If somebody from Tournafulla won €1m in PBs nobody would be aware where exactly the winning bond was from, so no pressure on you to explain the upgrade from the '68 Cortina to the 2010 Focus. I know a lad who was an early lotto millionaire because the gobsh1te went public on it to his detriment. Apples and oranges really.

BTW have you asked everyone you ever knew if they have had a win in the PBs?

I have won, at least 7/8 times a year for the last 4 years.
I also know 2 people that won 250K. I know one family that won the lotto jackpot.
    ??

So you are suggesting its a big conspiracy and no prizes are given out in reality?
