I did the 10 million count again today, 91 winners this time. All winners from the AOR to APA series inclusive.

€50 for me today from my March 2010 Big Bunch. A subset of this bunch in the MC930 series has been very lucky this year.

General patterns are evident in the overall, but this is just another example of where a small number of bonds can do much better than the average.

Up to date as of Friday 30 August 2019

    30 Aug 2019
    Prize Bond Number Value
    MC930616 €50

    28 Jun 2019
    Prize Bond Number Value
    MC930566 €50

    14 Jun 2019
    Prize Bond Number Value
    MC930020 €50

    05 Apr 2019
    Prize Bond Number Value
    MC930984 €50

    Wins on 30th August 2019: €0
    Last win: 5th July 2019: €50
    Weeks since last win: 8
€134k invested in prize bonds since July 2017
Win ratio: 13 wins in 113 weeks (12%)
    2017 (Jul-Dec): 5 x €50 = €250
    2018 (Jan-Dec): 4 x €50 = €200
    2019 (Jan-date): 4 x €50 = €200

Nothing for us this week. It’s beyond funny at this stage. Nothing since May.

    Nothing here again either.

What do you mean by this?

It was an exercise I did last week in connection with part of the discussion a week before that, and I decided to repeat it this week.

Very surprisingly - but very happily - €50 today :):)

Nothing in a while. Over €200k invested. Adding another €80k shortly. Deposit interest rates are so bad that I just couldn't invest in State Bonds/Certs and tie my money up for 3 to 5 years. Stock market too high and correction due methinks, so even high paying dividends, while attractive are not worth the risk.
Spanish Holiday home of no interest to me or the family as everyone likes to go to different places.

Find myself in a similar position - some would say it's first world problems but it is a real issue for anybody who is trying to provide for long term future/retirement !

Will the 250k limit get in your way or do you have pre November 2015 holdings ?

Prize Bond holdings are in joint names. Is it €250k per person? I think I have a chunk pre November 2015 anyway.

Apparently not, if you hold them in joint names. See page 20 of the above:
1.2 Subject to condition 1.3, the maximum holding limit for Prize Bonds added to the Prize Bond Register in your name on or after 1 November 2015 is €250,000, regardless of whether such individual holds those Prize Bonds as a sole Holder or a Joint Holder.
1.3 There is no limit on Prize Bond that are held as a result of
    (a) transfers to you in accordance with condition 17 (Death of a Holder) of the General Terms and Conditions; and/or (b) investment by you of proceeds of prize bonds winnings within 30 days of the draw date in which you won a prize.

OK. I rang the Prize Bond department this morning. The lady who is dealing with customer queries "thought" it was €500k for a joint account but put me on hold while she checked this out. (You would think that someone answering queries on Prize Bonds might actually know the answers to simple everyday questions).
Anyhow she got back to me and confirmed that a joint application can have €500k of Prize Bonds.

That contradicts completely so their own terms and conditions!

But does it not make sense that a husband can have €250k in his sole name. His wife can have €250k in her sole name.....so a joint account can have €500k?

As you have just explained they are two different things. A joint account is a one single account and two individual accounts are two individual accounts.

I don't really see why that needs explaining?

I'm not saying that 500K isn't allowed in joint accounts but my logic says unless there is a special rule then the 250k limit would apply.

We shall see. I have made an application this week that will bring us over the €250k threshold.

About the only definite way we will know for sure.

But hey this is Ireland, you might get away with it when other don't

The limits outlined on the application form say €500K for a holding in joint names.

    No Joy.
    Weeks since last win: 13

Funny, earlier in the year I had 3 wins in January alone, now I haven't had 1 win since early June. Swings/roundabouts.

No dxhound2005 posted clarification and a link to the Prize Bonds Application Form. I'm not sure why you needed to post it again immediately afterwards.

It looked as if you were trying to take his credit....that's all.

    zero today :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,743 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

Nothing for me today. Number of €50 prizes each draw in September is 4832, up from 4798 in August, and 4546 at the start of the year. I estimate an increase in the fund of around 5.5%.

    Defying the odds today:

Prize Value Winning Prize Bond Location

    €50 ST298741 Waterford
    €50 ST299390 Waterford
    €50 ST299922 Waterford

So...in a nutshell, with, say, €100k, is there much between the expected return per annum from prize bonds and a deposit account after dirt?
