What age are you that you're still being told what to do by your mammy?

I wasn't aware that many people observed the no meat thing anymore, let alone expect it of their families...

What is the reason not to consume meat on Good Friday? Meat is a very healthy source of food.

No bloody ancient superstition and quack rule is going to stop me from enjoying my dinner.
    Bugger that!

Been off meat for all of lent (except for a few socail occasions where it would have been impolite to not to eat meat), and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

The local Centra is doing BLT's for 2.50. I'm going to buy two of them, remove a slice of bread and have a BLTLB.

    Atheism FTW.

Oh yeah the mandatory "I'm such a mad yoke I eat meat and drink alcohol on Good Friday" thread - was wondering when that would make an appearance.

Nothing rebellious about it whatsoever - and it's just embarrassing that anyone over 15 would feel there is...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,039 ✭✭✭MJ23

rashers and toast for breakfast, lovely.
Who still follows this bizarre ritual? And what do they think the consequences will be if they dont follow? Who made up this nonsense rule anyway?

This basically, if you're gonna eat meat then do, no need to make a song and dance about it.
I dont think it should be a day where drink cant be sold but it doesnt mean I go to the offie the night before and buy a slab of beer as a way of sticking it to the man, if it was a regular friday the same people who make such a big deal about drinking probably wouldnt have gone near a pub or opened a beer regardless, but once people are told they cant do something everyone feels they must. Its such a schoolchild mentality.

Nothing about rebellion - simply having the mind to do your own thing.

But even that's no big deal any more - people go on about it here as if they're right anarchists. Why would you even think about it anymore, not to mind pat yourself on the back? I can't remember the last time I felt it was really "daring" of me to eat meat or drink alcohol on Good Friday (although I don't think the sale of alcohol should be prohibited).

But it's inevitably getting "I'm such a rebel because I'm eating meat" posts.

I fail to see where I said that?

Morgans rum with orange cordial. It tastesike a super split!

Anyway, everyday is a meal day.. but I might have calamari today. Not sure what that counts as, as it's not really fish but not exactly regular meat either.

Rules were made to be broken..

Having a BBQ today ...lots of burgers, sausages, pork chops, steak and chicken ...then plenty of beers to wash it all down with...:D

    down with that religious ****e!!

    It's confusing.

I was all set to do that zany thing of eating 6 or 7 quarter pounders and swapping over to bacon crisps for the day (and boasting about it online) to cock a snook at the bishops but then I thought that maybe actually ironically abstaining from the protest of eating meat would be even more daring and individual.

I don't fly with the flock, me.

nothing in the bible says you cant have meat today so i, like 'priests' in the catholic cult will be tucking into beef for dinner
