I'm going to miss Fridays session so I threw half of that session in on Wednesdays. 3 feckin hours!

I did the full split snatch for the first time. I was a bit like Indiana Jones in the Last Crusade trying it for the first time. I kept asking Wayne a bunch of questions before trying it to which the answer to all of them was "Just do it". As usual he was right and after only two sets I was landing them pretty sweet. I was quite impressed with myself I have to say!! :D It'll be another month though before the foot work is exactly right and I hit it with consistency. With how quickly I got it tonight though I'm confident now that'll this style is the way to go for me.

Powercleans are still lacking though which is annoying me. That 92kg is a PB for a full clean however. Go go super quads

Bloody db handles get thicker from 32kg. I was having a hard time maintaining a solid grip on them. So I'll stick with this weight for a good while. I did one set with a hook grip to see the difference and I murdered the weight but I'll stick to building up my grip strength.

Since I'm missing Friday I'm going to do an urban time trial on the commute home this evening and freak out the norms. Then a nice 3 days off before a mini test on Monday to see how much I am NOT going to PB by at the Dublin Open :(

Hey Ste. Nope it's not ready for a debut just yet. I only did the full lift for the first time last night. Imma powersnatch this one.

I think Ed is but he might be still moany about his shoulder :P Supposedly is lifting. I don't know about Lillis. I know Byrdy is lifting so he might follow him up being the best of pals.

L is menstruating and I'll lift if I can set a PB. I think I might be reffing though.

Got a bit of the black lung from my urban time trial. I knocked 25% of my usual commute time. I wasn't even going that fast because my legs were goosed from weightlifting I was shooting for 33% but I haven't put effort into a cardio activity in god knows when.

Ugh temperature this morning and could barely drag myself out of bed. That explains my mopeyness and lack of aggression last night and subsequent ****ness. It better clear up before Saturday.

Training in an overreaching state while still drinking is the usual cause. There is no saving some people from themselves.

    Saturday 24th Feburary

I was very close to pulling out of comp on Friday because my head was melted. Backing out after saying I'd do it wasn't sitting well with me though. I didn't feel *that* bad this morning however the aids are starting to clear.

    Dublin Open

    Snatch
    70x,70,74x

I went into an early emo compeition lead Vs Lillis with this showing.

    Clean & Jerk
    90,95,98x

C&J's weren't that bad. I'll now explain why snatches were **** and c&j was ok'ish.

I got called for my opener way earlier than I thought on the snatch. I had only just done a 60kg power when my name was called for the opener. I thought there was another guy lifting before me. Even though the weight felt alright when I tried it I left it out front because I wasn't ready for a 10kg jump. Also the big whack of caffinne taken only 5 minutes before I was called didn't kick in until after my 3 lifts were over. *Cries*. Emo Comp Me:1 L:0.

I drank a can of monster to ride the caffinne wave over to the C&J's. I was as off ones face as much as it is possible with caffinee for my c&j's and they felt good. Only reason I didn't lift more is thats all I'm capable of at the moment. I caught the 98kg in a full clean and didn't even bother trying to squat it. I sat there for a second or two and then dumped it. Summary of the day.

L bombed the C&J though so he win's the emo competition this time. Me 2: Lillis: 1 million.

70/95. I hit these lifts 4 weeks into weightlifting. Depressing. I knew I was gonna lift **** though and wasn't emotionally invested. I was more emo at training on monday night tbh.

Anyway I consider myself in a transition stage at the moment. The muthaf*ckin' split era commences from the next comp. It'll be great I can talk about the state of youth today and how they are always on my lawn and what not. Feckin' youngsters.

/emo, but not slit my wrists emo

I'd say the only reason you guys do comps is because you love "cutting" so much

That reminds me I forgot to include my bodyweight amongst the rest of my dribble.

75.87kg of skinny fatness I think it was. I don't know what I was thinking when I used to think I'd make it to be being a 85kg lifter. I can't even fill out the 77's properly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 983 ✭✭✭Frogdog

    75kg!

Did you actually cut for it? Please tell me you did and that wasn't your training weight!

Yeah I cut for it. The least intrusive one I've done so far though I didn't really feel any negative effects from it. If I lost the run of myself with it like I did with Edenderry I would have been in the 73kg range. I need to hit those 10 rep squats again and put some godamn muscle on my legs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,023 ✭✭✭howtomake

Well you got through it anyway & lived to lift another day. I'm still not sure how anyone does the comps, it was draining enough just waiting around & watching my first one.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,603 ✭✭✭Scuba Ste

Way more fun competing than watching. At least it is when everything is going well.

When's your next comp? Seniors or DCU?

When is DCU? I doubt I'm doing it anyway as I'm away now with work from tomorrow for two weeks. That is gonna halt progress for awhile so I'll just be concentrating on Seniors when I get back. The hotel I'm staying in has a gym though apparently so hopefully theres enough there to keep me ticking over for the two weeks without losing too much ground.

    Wednesday 29th February

    Viva la Revolution!

    Hotel Gymnasium

    Barbell circuit/complex/almost a metcon
    3x
    10 Back Squats @ 60kg
    60s rest
    5 Clean Deadlifts @ 90kg
    60s rest
    10 Push Press @ 60kg
    60s rest

Hotel gym aint half bad. There's no racks or anything but there's a couple of 20kg bars and a good few 20kg, 15kg, 10kg plates etc.. and it's got dumbells too. I got the opening times mixed up and when I got there. I only had 15 minutes so I ended up doing a circuit of sorts. It's given me a bit of the heart palpitations and metcony lightheadness since I haven't done anything remotely resembling a metcon since my prebok days. My elite innov8's had to get dumped for dress shoes however. There's just enough heel on them where I could back squat ATG without my form going to **** with my total and utter lack of calf flexbility. Are there dress shoes on the battlefield?

I'll probably do something similar again the next I go since there is no racks for going heavier. Also If I dropped a barbell it would go through the floor as well as the floor wasn't too solid. I had to very gently lower the deadlifts. Yeah I'll do something similar and throw in dumbell stuff at end the next time.

I was thinking of setting up a Ca$hfit here but after doing my research someone beat me to the punch. The government better not f*ck with these warriors.

    Friday 2nd March

    3x
    10 Back Squats @ 70kg
    10 Push Press @ 60kg
    10 Barbell Rows @ 60kg

I was thinking of doing one of the circuits Wayne gives people but logistics didn't really work for it. So pretty much did the same thing again. Rest between sets started at about 90 seconds and creeped up to 120. I didn't plan on taking that much rest between sets but I was gassing bad. I am now an unfit slob. I started doing split squats & single leg rdls after but I was goosed so gave up and left it there.

    Saturday 3rd March

There's a football pitch beside the hotel so I made use of it

    Sprints

    1 lap warmup

    6 x lengths, 100'ish metres
    with 60s recovery

    1 lap cooldown

I had planned 8 sprints but the quality of the runs were suffering and I wasn't bothered doing fast jogs.

Gonna take it handy tomorrow and do a longer gym session on Monday with some strength stuff + a light barbell complex.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,806 ✭✭✭token

    Tuesday 6th March

Man those sprints really took it out of me. I felt all creaky the next day and then the last two days my hamstrings have been very tight. I suppose I haven't used bipedal locomotion at maxium velocities since last summer.

    Clean Deadlifts
    5@60kg
    5@80kg
    4x5@100kg

    Back Squats
    5@60kg
    5@70kg
    5@80kg
    2x8@70kg

    Press
    3x5@50kg

    Kurlz
    3x8@35lb dumbells

    Recovery
    Mini Toblerone from the Mini-bar.

Again I had planned a barbell complex after the deadlifts and squats but today was the hottest day since I've been here and I was dripping in sweat after just doing a weightlifting warmup @ empty bar. So that wasn't happening. I think I weirded people out with ohs, drop snatchs and hang snatches while they were doing endless curls.

I al most dropped the bar when lowering that 80kg bar to my hips after squat set. I was melting and had no chalk. So I dropped back to 70kg then for remaining sets.

Kurlz which I also haven't done since last summer. It felt wrong to do them since the Head of Project Kurlovs spine fell out. Forearms hit peak vascularity afterwards brah.

Wouldn't mind training at a real gym again. Kinda getting fed up of training on my own with limited things to do. I'm meant to be going home on Friday but there's a high possiblity my trip will be extended.

Did you use chalk for the sprints?

    Happy Birthday Token!

You all suck. I rule. Etc.

    Thursday 8th March

I went down to the Gymnasium but there was a load of Arabs cleaning the place out, well removing the equipment so they could redo the floor. In any case it was closed for training.

    So..more sprints

    Sprints

    1 lap warmup

    10 x widths, 70'ish metres
    with 60s recovery

    1 lap cooldown

Better outta the blocks tonight. I remembered the sprint starting position that Dave taught me last summer at those few sprint sessions I went to. Bit of a burn in the chest cavity afterwards but distances were still short enough that I didn't want to die.

Heading home tomorrow morning so back to ECB on Monday and the return of the dignified split lifting.

ugh got sick while travelling home. I'm not having much luck regards training the past few months. Aids 3 times in as many months. I must have been an incubator baby or something. Worked from home today and gonna do the same tomorrow. I think I'll go train regardless of how I feel on Wednesday just to maintain some movement and get used to the split again.
