Very true about Galway Sunday and for a number of years. But people get tired listening to this heroic mayo stuff and consistently getting to semi finals finals etc.
The sum total is that they are a good team but will never be classed as a great one. They need to put in a 70 min performance against the better teams if they are to win an all Ireland. Same as the Galway hurlers. No point having a super semi final and only playing for 30 mins in the final.

Whatever about Mayo. Let's be honest here. There's nothing heroic about making a semi final in a 12 team sport ie hurling. It's the same as the rugby world cup, 10 countries play rugby seriously in the world and the media make heroes out of the semi finalists.
Sure the football is the same . Anybody asked last May before a ball was kicked would have picked Kerry Dublin mayo Tyrone as last 4 . 20 counties if not more are only making up numbers . Ya will never see Leitrim Waterford Carlow Antrim and many more in last 4 again

I know the Galway senior hurlers train in Kenny Park in Athenry.

On what nights and times do they train?

To be realistic Kevin walsh won't walk away or he won't be shown the door by the county board.
I just hope he changes his selectors though and tries to get someone from outside the county as a "brains of the operation". Tactical know how is urgently needed.

Thats the minimum thats needed, though what function a manager has if not to decide tactics I don't know. I'm sure S&C, skills coaching, coaching in general are all taken by others already so surely theres really only tactics and formations left.

Realistically football is a four team competition. Hurling was a two/three team competition for long enough but has opened up this year.
Just because 33 teams enter the football championship doesn't mean it's any better balanced than the hurling. You're being facetious in comparing the hurling championship to the rugby World Cup without acknowledging that football is really no better.
The only difference is that minnows in hurling face an absolute trouncing meeting the big guns given the nature of the game. In football, they get the same result without the hammerings ( on a good day).
Galway were miles away from Kerry on Sunday yet we can grasp at straws. In a hurling equivalent we'd have been bet 15 points.
So yeah, nothing heroic about Galway getting to hurling semi finals, but the same applies for Dublin, Kerry, Mayo and Tyrone(Donegal previously) in football.

Seeing a lot of talk on various places of a Conor Whelan injury. He'd be a massive loss if true.

Looking for another huge game from Joe Cooney Jr. Hope they drop a few high balls in early to him, and see what he does with them.

It's a strong starting 15. Not so sure about some of the bench if we have a bad day in the backs.

    Minors lost to Cavan... woeful.

Winning the whole game then got badly outscored late and lost by 3.

Sligo were beating Derry then and Galway hammered them.

Another low point for Galway football.

Yes that's a bad defeat for the minors, against a Cavan team who were well beaten in the Ulster Final. But on that evidence Galway wouldn't have beaten Kerry anyway.

And Sligo unlucky not to beat Derry, who beat Cavan pretty convincingly. Minor championship can be very unpredictable.

I haven't seen them play so I don't know how good or otherwise they were. I was listening to the Roscommon game in the radio a few weeks back and it sounded like they were struggling for long spells before eventually coming good. Don't think they were a vintage crop to be fair and I'm not sure either that Stephen is a great steward on the sideline. Minors are very precarious anyway.

    Better news:

Tadhg Haran who was on the panel in 2012 won the Poc Fada.

Susan Earner also from Galway on the women's Poc Fada.

Was at the minor game in carrick today. Disappointing loss and was a game we were in control of until last 5 mins when Cavan got the goal to lead for first time. Poorest I have seen them play all year and whilst pitch was slippy and shocking refereeing performance for both teams Galway still should have prevailed.

Thought management on sideline were very poor and decision to keep Evan Murphy on the field and leave him in midfield until minutes into one injury time cost Galway the game. Gave away possession on numerous times and his decision-making on the ball was crazy for such an experienced player. Everything on the pitch revolved around him and he had to take every free and contest every hop ball. Counted 8 times in first half alone where he gave away possession. Even if Galway won today they wouldn't stand a chance against Kerry in semi final on today's performance.

Yeah, it's a great walk up from O'Connell Street, I love that walk :)
Wish I was home. Up Galway

I'd go as far as Connolly on the luas and walk up to croke park from there especially if you are in the cusack stand.

Just follow the crowd up from Connolly.

Hope you have a great day.

Yes get the luas to Connolly and walk to croker. From Connolly walk up Buckingham street then toward gills corner. Davin entrance near there. About eight min walking steady.

Be careful when you are getting the luas that it isn't the one for the point or nci as otherwise it won't go to Connolly but you could get this and get off at busaras instead.

Also when you get inside the stadium and your seat, you can bring the kids free into the gaa museum to kill some time.
It's located under the cusack stand.
There is a nice coffee shop there in the museum and if you want a cavery dinner there is a cavery at the back of cusack stand 301.

And if you're early as well you might see the team buses coming in. They arrive in under the cusack stand.

    Have a great day.

    Poor enough half.

Need to be scoring more than 6 points in a half. 15mins without a point as well.

    Is Lynskey still playing sweepers?.

I know he did in previous years, not there today and it's harder to pick up on TV but he look badly outnumbered in the KK half(and look rather exposed for space at our end).

The goal was a cardinal sin... more than one defender going for the same ball.
    It should never happen.

They did it again after but thankfully it was saved.

Wow the second goal was even worse... scooped it straight to a KK player.

Have you ever seen the likes of that free from Walsh?... couldn't lift it off the ground... in an AI semi final and a tight game.

Can't say I ever saw that before.

What a laughable 65 to give.

And you see these incidents where ones given, and it gets overruled and it's a complete lottery who it actually came off.

That was as clear as day.

    The galway player felt that.

That was a dirty foul by Heary.

In terms of senior prospects, that's probably a better team than 2015.

There's a few of them who look like they'll push on at the next grade whereas 15 was just a really balanced team(with a 5'7 FF).

Good size and strength around that side.
