Salthill bar Finnerty looking ropey enough with the strong breeze favouring them against Barna.

    Shame to see Carna's plight

    Probably playing Junior next year

Must be very tough for them to keep teams going. The team of the 00s was a joy to watch

Haven't seen them this year but they seem to be struggling a bit and will do well to come out of that group.

Won't be coming out of it after loosing to kilannin. Looser of their game against Tuam will be in relegation play off. Regular underachievers in senior championship for last few years. Is finish Hanley injured or has he retired from club football aswell?

Think they drew with kilanin, lost to annaghdown and beat barna. will have to look at group to see exactly what's happening now.

Ok, so this is the group:

Position Team Points Played Won Lost Drawn For Against Diff
    1 Annaghdown 5 3 2 0 1 52 33 19
    2 Killannin 5 4 1 0 3 56 53 3
    3 Salthill-Knocknacarra 3 3 1 1 1 40 36 4
    4 Tuam Stars 2 3 1 2 0 50 59 -9
    5 CLG Bhearna 1 3 0 2 1 35 52 -17

To me, it looks like Kilanin have finished their 4 matches; 3 draws and a win to leave them on 5. Salthill have 3 points from 3 matches. If they beat Tuam in their last match, they will finish level on 5 with Kilanin. As they drew with each other, head to head cant count so it must go to score difference. At the moment, Salthill are 1 ahead. Therefore, if they win, they will remain ahead on score difference and finish 2nd. Have I got that right?

Then if Tuam beat Salthill, it means they finish 3rd and Salthill end up in a relegation battle! So that Salthill - Tuam match looks like a cracker. There are some exciting matches to look forward to going into the last round - Caherlistrane v Kilconly has a lot riding on it. Monivea v Moycullen as well.

Haven't seen them this year but they seem to be struggling a bit and will do well to come out of that group.

They got going in the second half but that was mainly due to how poor Barna were. They had a Finnerty too at HB who was doing serious damage in the second half. That said I don't know are there many better contenders from the rest of the pack that could keep Corofin to 6 points in the final.

Didn't see much of the second half of the Killanin match but Paddy Sweeney was the standout. The Walsh lad in the backs that was on the Galway panel was caught badly for two goals.

Was actually an extremely poor crowd at Pearse Stadium. Easily less than a hundred for the first match. Probs about 200 there for the second match.

I went to Kenny Park to watch Moycullen v Milltown. Both teams had put up big scores. Milltown were all over Moycullen whereas Moycullen would not take shots on goal from scoring range. They had no shooter or no one confident enough. There was one factor early in the first half. Moycullen were on the attack and the player was fouled and Gearoid ÓConamha pointed the arm for advantage. The player passed the ball and had a shot but it dropped short into the keepers hand. I was expecting the ball to be taken back and a free for Moycullen but that didn't happen. Milltown went down the pitch and scored a point. Bradshaw protested to the ref and you could see the ref warned him but he kept at it. Bradshaw got a yellow early in the game. 2 point swing and a yellow. I think Bradshaw was right.
In saying all that Milltown wasted no time in their attacks and always proceeded to goal as the crow flies with one thing on their mind. Moycullen would spend a lot longer working up a score. The player I was most impressed with was Liam Costello from Milltown. He was fast and scored a few points from play.

Having seen most teams I think Corofin and Annaghdown are the top 2. There are a lot of bad teams this year; Salthill, Michaels, Claregalway, James', Barna, Caltra, Cortoon and Naomh Anna.

I guess that was William Finnerty. Very good young player.

That's just a reflection of how poor the club standard is in the county outside of Corofin.

They wouldn't survive a year in a competitive championship like the Mayo, Dublin, Kerry senior club championships.

Very few, if any of that Milltown team, would make the Corofin team.

The standard is quite high in Galway. I'd go as far as saying very high relative to the rest of the country. Corofin are just an outlier freak team out on their own.

Mountbellew Moylough and Annaghdown would both be close second favs in the Mayo championship behind Mitchels. They'd be 4th or 5th favs in the Dublin championship but there wouldnt be much between them and the likes of Ballymun

    3.

It should be mentioned those 2 matches above are relegation semis. The 2 losers are drawn into two groups of 3 joining Carna, Glenamaddey, Athenry and St Brendans

James's have won every game. And missing Duane and Conroy. Far from a "bad" team

Salthill will have enough for Tuam and will get through 2nd. Killannin blew it v Bearna

Don’t forget they are missing Fintan Cooney too. I think he scored two goals against Claregalway. I don’t think Danny Cummins was playing that day. Claregalway were struggling up until two weeks ago. Hopefully Moran can resurrect them to beat An Cheatra Rua. The Jimmys just about beat Cortoon and had to come from behind to beat An Cheathra Rua. Duane will be back for Quarter Finals. They should be a top club but not this year.

Milltown's win would be viewed as a shock because they haven't made much of a mark at Senior level in the past number of years, have struggled to field underage sides at times and haven't always produced football to a level the quality of players available to them would suggest they should. Moycullen on the other hand can call on county players such as Bradshaw, Sean Kelly, Declan Wynne, David Walsh, Dessie Conneelly etc. They have been to the fore at underage level in the West board and won a county minor in recent years IIRC. They gave a right trouncing to Caltra last day out also. However Milltown served notice of improved form in their previous game v Monivea when everything they kicked in the first half went over the bar. Hehir, Ml. Martyn and Kavanagh have looked in good shape too. Maybe a lesson to Galway mgmt to cast their net wider going forward.
In all fairness them 3 players got there chances in Galway jersey

When the Championship is reduced to the 16 teams, it should increase the standard.

Alot of very poor teams there at the minute. Don't be surprised if some of them are Junior by 2020.

That lad was on the underdogs show on TG4 last week.

Cummins was playing, he just doesn't seem to perform at club level at all.

That Fintan Cooney is a right good player and did real damage in the games he has played this year.

    Or intercounty level.

Yeah Sean Moran has been Claregalway's main man for a while now. Even Mark Rohan is probably more of a threat than Cummins

That was a pretty soft group when you look at it. At least when there's 16 teams they should all be fairly competitive

Intermediate has been funny this year. A star-studded Kilkerrin-Clonberne team can't even qualify from a very mediocre group, and Oughterard flatter to deceive yet again.

It really is wide open now

Subjective. Was he not nominated for an All Star in 2016? After winning man of the match against Roscommon to help Galway win a Connacht Final for the first time in 8 years.

Nearly certain Danny Cummins scored a goal for Carnmore there.
