As far as I know it is only carphonewarehouse doing the trad in offers. I seen the prices on their store magazines they hand out.

I also got the jb update several weeks ago. Bought the phone as sim free too.

Ok firstly I'm not responsible for bricking any phone or data loss.
    Use at your own risk!!

A micro sd card is useful here too

    Stuff to download:
    Odin 3.07
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539

    SiyahKernel S2 - v6.0beta5
    http://www.gokhanmoral.com/?p=1796

    CM 10.1 nightly
    http://get.cm/?device=i9100&type=nightly

    Google Apps
    http://goo.im/gapps
get the one for 4.2.2 as thats what Cm10.1 is based on

Apps to download from play store:
    Titanium backup
    AppExtractor
    HC-kTool
    ROM Toolbox
    ROM Manager
    BusyBox

    How to root:
    - Make sure usb drivers are installed on your computer
    - Ensure that the USB Debugging Mode is enabled on the phone. [Press Menu>> Settings>> Applications. From there navigate and click

on Development option and ensure the USB Debugging Mode is turned on.]
    - Battery is fully charged
    - Back up phone data
    - Warranty gone when phone is rooted
    - Open Odin 3.07
    - Turn off the phone
    - Turn on in download mode by pressing and holding the home button, volume down and power button. A warning screen appears and

agree using the volume up button.
    - Connect the phone to the computer using the usb cable
    - In Odin you should see an added message
    - Click the PDA button and select the Siyah kernel file (.tar)
    - check the “Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time” options
    - Click start and dont touch anything!!!
    - Wait until you see a pass on the screen in Odin before disconnecting the phone. Can take a few mins.
    - You now have root

    Backing up your data
Follow this guide "The Process - Steps 1a - 2"

Note I had issues restoring contacts and sms'. I have the contancts merged with google account so they were restored that way. As

for the sms i backed up with several apps before loading the new rom. The Apps were SuperBackUp

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1502526

    Back up the EFS folder
    Follow the link above

    Loading the ROM...
    - Connect the phone to the computer and copy the CM10.1 rom and the google apps files to the sd card on the S2.
    - Disconnect the phone and turn off.
    - Start up in recovery mode - home button + Vol up and power
    - install zip from sdcard
    - choose zip from sdcard
    - Select the cm10.1 file and choose yes on the next page
    - Rom will install, when done choose back and factory reset and then reboot
    - Rom will load and look for sim pin. I do a factory reset again just to help clean things up.

    Restoring
    - Load up the phone in recovery mode again and choose install zip from sdcard
    - Choose install from sdcard and select gapps zip file (This is so the play store is available)
    - When install complete reboot again
    - Follow the set instructions
    - Follow the guide above from "The Process - step 5" on. Before opening Titanium Backup you will have to enable USB debugging.
To do this go to settings, select about phone, then on 'Build Number' press it 7 times.
Go back and select developer options. Go back and then into security and enable install apps from unknown sources.
    - Go to step 6. You will run the batch to restore but you will have press install and done a lot depending on the number of apps.

Does it automatically if you have the paid version
    - Back to the guide and follow step 7 to restore app data. AppExtractor failed to restore contacts and sms data fo me which is why

I synced with google and retored with SuperBackup. Go play with the apps mentioned in the "Other Apps" section also to restore data.

    - You should now be able to play around with your new rom!!

I tried updating the S2 to JB through Kies last night but it didnt find any new firmware. I thought eMobile had started rolling it out through Kies.

I've been offered an S2 for 140e. He's admitted that it tends to freeze up every so often but other than that, its perfect. Im assuming it is one of the first models released so its a few years old. is it worth the buy? Are these still goin strong?. the spec of the phone is fine for me and i prefer the look of it over the S3.

Still good, obviously you'd want to have a look at it from the point of view of bumps/knocks etc.

People have had issues with the USB/Charger connection which is presumably due to age/damage from frequent plug-ins and possibly moisture. This is repairable but would cost about €40.

Don't know how much they go for on adverts. But the freezing issue will probably resolve if you wipe it and stick a nice clean ROM on it ;)

Shweet! thanks Zagato, Good to hear. think ill go for it the weekend. im sure its all ready rooted so putting a new Rom on it should be no problem.

Anyone know anywhere other than amazon where I could get a replacement battery for this phone?

Myself and my mate both have s2's and both of us were having the problem of the battery not lasting the day and if we stayed on the internet for more than 5 mins the phone would shut down and when they were restarted the battery percentage would drop from 70 or 80% down to 3 or 4%.

I ended up buying two of these with free delivery for €29 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-1900mAh-Battery-GT-I9100-EB-F1A2GBU/dp/B00567Y7A6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1367355749&sr=1-1&keywords=anker+galaxy+s2

Its like having a new phone again as the battery easily lasts a day and a half as its a 1900mAh battery.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2, and for the past few days, when ever I am out & about using the mobile data (3G ?) it keeps dropping. I have tried turning on & off again but even that doesn't work now. Internet works fine on wireless, but i do need it on mobile also.

Any thoughts, the use packet data & data roaming are both ticked

Got this far. Yellow triangle on bootup and phone turns itself off, pc doesn't recognise phone. great.

edit: Siyah Kernel doesn't work with Android 4.0

Completely lost, if I download a kernel for jellybean, the phone won't turn on to install cm10.
If I install an ICS kernel, I can't install jellybean.

I think you need to upgrade your phone to jellybean first and then root it with the jellybean kernel. I used this dummies guide when i first rooted my phone which also has a link to a 'how to' video -

My phone was on jelly bean when I did the rooting and loading the rom.
After odin loaded the kernel the phone rebooted and saw the yellow triangle and then it booted up normally.

If you turn off the phone and then turn it on by holding home, vol up and power does it boot into the siyah recovery?

(home, vol down and power is odin recovery mode)

The process i used is similar to

Sick of the phone freezing, and Swype not performing correct on jb, i flashed cyanogen last night.

This is not the first rom I've flashed, but its definitely got me stuck:mad:

Everything goes great until i flash gapps...... Then the phone won't start, keeps throwing me up messages like setup Wizard isn't working, but strangely it will work flawlessly if i flash the gapps zip.

I've cleared cache, dalvick cache, and factory reset etc after enabling zips from cwm (basically followed instructions to the letter)

    Anyone any ideas?

    Hey lads.

I have recently upgraded to JB, and for some reason I can no longer open any attachments from my gmail a/c.
Anyone any ideas what i can do? Worked fine beforehand! :)

    How does one check?

Usually when you are downloading from CyanogenMod they have a link to show the latest gapps, all you need to do is link the gapps to the version of CM you are using

Updated firmware via kies and since then phone keeps using much more battery power. Goes from full to empty and off over a few hours and phone is hot like a heavy proces is running non stop.

    Any thought appreciated, thanks

Go into battery in settings, it should suggest whats most active(display is always #1).
