Anyone know where the option is to block your own caller ID has gone to since jb update?
Can't find that option, and also cannot find the option to call forward to voice mail.
Yes, call blocking is there, but that gives the person calling you a ring tone noise, then voice mail (so it sounds like you've rejected the call on your end)

    Driving me crazy atm

For all you Renault owners with Radiostat Bluetooth and SGS2.......
When you update to JB and the phone bluetooth keeps dropping its connection, delete the phone from the car bluetooth and when setting up the new connection do not allow the car bluetooth to access the phone contacts list when prompted. Bluetooth will then work fine.

For rooting purposes. Does anyone know how to convert zimage to tar for Odins use. Without the command prompts or cygwin. Searched everywhere. Got one Kernel to work 'Siyah-s2-v6.0b4' but phone isnt rooted after installing.
Maybe a link to a tried and tested kernel for sgs2 on vodafone ireland network???
    Thanks

    Edit:
http://d-h.st/frK or Siyah-s2-v6.0b5.tar kernel gave me full root access

Hey everyone, just to update that my meteor SGS2 has just updated to JB 4.1.2 through kies no problems...which has stunned me.

The stock keyboard imo is better than swift key, and the pull down menu is much improved along with the widgets, but other than that have yet to notice a massive improvement.

Going to wait to judge the battery as all my tinkering means im over using!

I got a notification on my phone to update a new software. However I am regretting now as I can't use my three sim in it. I will advise you not to update now. Samsung & O2 needs to get their act together and bring a working software.

Sounds like you've upgraded using o2 official firmware.

That being the case, it will obviously be sim locked to the o2 network.

You will have to root the phone now and network unlock it.
I'm on my phone now, but Google it and it you will get countless methods explaining and showing how.

But my phone was network unlocked. I did it a year ago by code provided from o2. I don't understand how it can be network locked again. I tried the same network unlock code which i had from o2 but it's not working.

    Like I said earlier.

Root the phone, network unlock it. It'll take five mins.

If it's still not accepting the sim, you've a problem.

    Edit. .... Sorry mate.

I see you've already entered a network unlock code from o2 which should make it network unlocked m

    Try upgrading using three.ie firmware?

They would release a Symbian update and then you would sit and wait for months before it became available for your particular phone. At one point they had two different serial ranges for SIM free phones sold in the country where I bought mine. There was seemingly no difference between the two variants but one got an update six months ahead of the other. When you were dealing with something as buggy as the early N97 firmwares that was beyond frustrating.

At least when you own an iPhone you know that you are not playing the update lottery. Everyone gets it on the same day. Whereas those of us who paid full price for a SIM free SII are still waiting for this update almost three months after it was first rolled out for some owners.

    Ebay

Is it worth the risk buying an unofficial battery like this? http://www.ebay.ie/itm/3200mAh-Battery-For-SAMSUNG-Galaxy-S2-Extended-with-White-Color-Back-Cover-/160957378292?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2579ceaef4#ht_1354wt_1016

Official extended battery is 2000mAh, this is 3200mAh

I bought the phone sim free, latest kies version is 2.5.3, and there's no update, so I've no idea what you're talking about. Sim free won't get it until Meteor do.

Not worth it with all the bloat Ware. Tried it for a day and was constanrly charging. Rooted it and put a syrah (sp?) Kernel on and cm 10.1. Just brilliant now. Like a new phone and the battery last 18 hours plus with heavy usage. Never done it before so had to do a bit of reading

I've used one of those Anker batteries since I got my S2 with zero issues. I thought I would use this and the original samsung battery as a spare on those busy days - I even got a phone charger that would charge the phone & the spare battery at the same time... but I've never needed the second battery.

Ok firstly I'm not responsible for bricking any phone or data loss.
    Use at your own risk!!

A micro sd card is useful here too

    Stuff to download:
    Odin 3.07
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539

    SiyahKernel S2 - v6.0beta5
    http://www.gokhanmoral.com/?p=1796

    CM 10.1 nightly
    http://get.cm/?device=i9100&type=nightly

    Google Apps
    http://goo.im/gapps
get the one for 4.2.2 as thats what Cm10.1 is based on

Apps to download from play store:
    Titanium backup
    AppExtractor
    HC-kTool
    ROM Toolbox
    ROM Manager
    BusyBox

    How to root:
    - Make sure usb drivers are installed on your computer
    - Ensure that the USB Debugging Mode is enabled on the phone. [Press Menu>> Settings>> Applications. From there navigate and click

on Development option and ensure the USB Debugging Mode is turned on.]
    - Battery is fully charged
    - Back up phone data
    - Warranty gone when phone is rooted
    - Open Odin 3.07
    - Turn off the phone
    - Turn on in download mode by pressing and holding the home button, volume down and power button. A warning screen appears and

agree using the volume up button.
    - Connect the phone to the computer using the usb cable
    - In Odin you should see an added message
    - Click the PDA button and select the Siyah kernel file (.tar)
    - check the “Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time” options
    - Click start and dont touch anything!!!
    - Wait until you see a pass on the screen in Odin before disconnecting the phone. Can take a few mins.
    - You now have root

    Backing up your data
Follow this guide "The Process - Steps 1a - 2"

Note I had issues restoring contacts and sms'. I have the contancts merged with google account so they were restored that way. As

for the sms i backed up with several apps before loading the new rom. The Apps were SuperBackUp

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1502526

    Back up the EFS folder
    Follow the link above

    Loading the ROM...
    - Connect the phone to the computer and copy the CM10.1 rom and the google apps files to the sd card on the S2.
    - Disconnect the phone and turn off.
    - Start up in recovery mode - home button + Vol up and power
    - install zip from sdcard
    - choose zip from sdcard
    - Select the cm10.1 file and choose yes on the next page
    - Rom will install, when done choose back and factory reset and then reboot
    - Rom will load and look for sim pin. I do a factory reset again just to help clean things up.

    Restoring
    - Load up the phone in recovery mode again and choose install zip from sdcard
    - Choose install from sdcard and select gapps zip file (This is so the play store is available)
    - When install complete reboot again
    - Follow the set instructions
    - Follow the guide above from "The Process - step 5" on. Before opening Titanium Backup you will have to enable USB debugging.
To do this go to settings, select about phone, then on 'Build Number' press it 7 times.
Go back and select developer options. Go back and then into security and enable install apps from unknown sources.
    - Go to step 6. You will run the batch to restore but you will have press install and done a lot depending on the number of apps.

Does it automatically if you have the paid version
    - Back to the guide and follow step 7 to restore app data. AppExtractor failed to restore contacts and sms data fo me which is why

I synced with google and retored with SuperBackup. Go play with the apps mentioned in the "Other Apps" section also to restore data.

    - You should now be able to play around with your new rom!!

I've been offered an S2 for 140e. He's admitted that it tends to freeze up every so often but other than that, its perfect. Im assuming it is one of the first models released so its a few years old. is it worth the buy? Are these still goin strong?. the spec of the phone is fine for me and i prefer the look of it over the S3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭Zagato

Still good, obviously you'd want to have a look at it from the point of view of bumps/knocks etc.

People have had issues with the USB/Charger connection which is presumably due to age/damage from frequent plug-ins and possibly moisture. This is repairable but would cost about €40.

Don't know how much they go for on adverts. But the freezing issue will probably resolve if you wipe it and stick a nice clean ROM on it ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 247 ✭✭seamey beag84

Shweet! thanks Zagato, Good to hear. think ill go for it the weekend. im sure its all ready rooted so putting a new Rom on it should be no problem.
